I am not going to ask if I am unreasonable because I am but hopefully in a good way.
My lovely GD who lives with me bought me a beautiful bouquet from M&S on Mothering Sunday.
It really is lovely but… it is blue delphiniums cream roses, purple stocks and some I don’t recognise.
My colour scheme is cream, dark red , orange shades, autumnal mainly.
Do you think about your recipients colour scheme when you send flowers?
I do if I know it.
I love what my GD did but just had that thought.

I would just send flowers, it would not occur to me colours etc ..

Bridgeit Sun 17-Mar-24 21:10:38

No, just a scan around & think ahh those are nice , decision made 💐💐

I always buy pot plants instead of cut flowers as gifts and love it if I get one for any occasion of mine (I'm not adverse to getting a lovely bouquet though) or a Bunnings voucher. I hate to see a lovely bouquet of flowers die and feel that a living plant can give pleasure for a much longer time, especially something like a butterfly orchid which can last for years, if you have a green thumb.

Goodness me no I don’t buy flowers to fit anyone’s colour scheme I buy flowers to give pleasure and love I couldn’t care less what colour flowers I get
What ever next ….”Please come to mine for a coffee and cake but whatever you do don’t wear red as that will clash with my walls”
Never heard anything so daft in all my life

(I m not impressed with the letterbox flowers only used them twice and they weren’t worth buying)

Happily I haven't experienced any short life with my daffs. Even bought some reduced for sell by date and they lasted for ages. Luck of the draw I guess.

Deedaa Sun 17-Mar-24 20:45:28

Has anyone else noticed that daffodils don't seem to be lasting any time at all? I bought a couple of bunches and after four days they were dying. The DiL brought me a big bunch for Mother's Day and they barely lasted three days. And, of course, they have no scent at all.

I never buy or send flowers - not since my mother died. I can't have them in the house (allergies) so had to put them outside in the garden anyway. Back when I did send them - no, I didn't think about colour matching.

Juicylucy Sun 17-Mar-24 20:28:59

Never and it wouldn’t cross my mind. I choose the colour scheme I want to send.

My local supplier does a beautiful combo of chrysanthemum, rose and carnation in mulberry and cream. So stunning that it's the only bouquet I buy for anyone. Wouldn't dream of considering the recipient's colour scheme as I believe flowers have a way of fitting in anywhere and, as someone said elsewhere, it's the thought that counts.

I had a gorgeous bouquet from Bloom and Wild for MD. They always need a couple of days to perk up and open but they last for ages. I've just tidied them up and now the lilies, which I love, have opened fully I've needed to make some space so now I have two arrangements. I tend to send flowers I personally like, pale pinks, white and blues usually with some lovely foliage.

everyone I know ,knows I dont like roses and I prefer yellow and white flowers so I usually get something I like. They are happy because daisies and gypsophilia are much less expensive than long stemmed roses .
I tend to buy yellow based bouquets for others too ,I did have a meltdown over a bouquet sent to Croatia during Covid for a dear friends family when he died suddenly, the flowers looked like a garage bunch and cost a lot of money.Complaints to the international firm who sent the order were ignored so I ended up sending a fresh bouquet from a florist local to them .She sent me a picture of it before she delivered it.I t didn't make up not being with them at the saddest of times ,or their loss, but at least I felt the flowers were appropriate .

Not as far as Croatia, but I've found a loval florist close to my son and his family and they're very happy to make flowers up in colour schemes and to use or avoid particular flowers. I often give them an idea of colour and just ask them to use whichever flowers are freshest.
When they moved house I had the flowers made up an a basket so my DiL didn't need to find a vase when they arrived.
My family often send me a photo of the the flowers I've sent and they seem much nicer, fresher and better value than the Interflora equivalent.

Personally I'm very fussy about colour and would much prefer to have a bunch of simple flowers in one colour to a mixed bouquet. My daughter and DiL are well aware of this and don't spend a fortune on florists flowers, knowing I'm just as happy with a couple of bunches of really fresh single coloured flowers, tulips or perhaps white daisies with yellow centres. Fresh spring flowers are lovely but most, particularly irises, last such a short time.
I'm pretty dubious about the freshness of many bunches, but sometimes I go to M&S or Tesco and find an attractive bouquet and treat myself.
My favourite would probably be a mixed bunch of flowers such as paeonies, roses and other proper garden flowers in soft toning colours - but absolutely no peach or orange!

I got beautiful flowers by post from my daughter on Mother's Day. I followed the instructions that came with them and they are still lovely. Pink roses, pink carnations. Cream stock and some greenery.

sometimes I do, sometimes I don't
Mothering Sunday I ordered flowers from Morrison's through deliveroo (with some other bits) and they delivered them within 20 minutes! I had sent cards ahead and was going to visit my Mum at Easter with a gift as I said to her, the flowers are not always god on Mother's day. She said, 'oh i always think they are nice' in a really sad voice sad so I felt bad and deliveroo suggested I ordered her a take out but I saw Morrisons were delivering Mother's day gifts. Anyway, she was happy.

I know one of my sons bought flowers with a scheme in mind as he texted to ask me what my favourite colour was! smile

I got 2 bunches of discounted flowers from Waitrose (past their sell by date)! Any wonder I am having second thoughts, and will not now be paying between £75- £90 for tickets to a musical as a birthday present!!

GrauntyHelen Sun 17-Mar-24 12:49:13

I don't consider decor when choosing flowers to send and would consider the recipient shallow and ungrateful if they were bothered by that !

win Sun 17-Mar-24 12:40:25

I try not to send flowers as I. think they are just too expensive for what you receive despite being lovely. I would rather visit with flowers if could or post something like chocolates or even a gift voucher. My son is very generous, but I have stopped him sending flowers too. Now I get a fruit basket or a cheese hamper although they are extremely extravagant too for what I receive. I do love those gifts though. When I do give flowers it would never enter my head to think about the recipients colour scheme but I will in future, I usually choose colours I enjoy myself like all the pinks and purples

pably15 Sun 17-Mar-24 12:31:35

no, I never gave it a thought, I love flowers and apreciate someone sending them to me, I did have to email a florist one time, the flowers I chose online looked lovely, but when they arrived ( they were for my niece ) there was more greenery than flowers, and they weren't worth the money. just don't buy from them anymore

Missiseff Sun 17-Mar-24 12:28:34

No, it never occurs to me.

grannyro Sun 17-Mar-24 12:10:34

No I don't think of the recipients colour scheme when sending flowers and I have never heard of this! I have a different problem, my son often sends me flowers which is lovely but despite me mentioning very often that lilies set my hay fever off, every bouquet I get has lilies in it! As soon as they open I have to put them in a different room. I always mention this to him (in a nice way) but each time I get a bouquet, there they are! I am sure at my funeral he will do the same (you will hear me sneezing from inside the coffin!)

Grandma70s Sun 17-Mar-24 12:01:28

My son sends me lovely bouquets from Wild at Heart/Bloom & Wild. The only problem is they arrive in huge cardboard boxes which I find very difficult to cope with. On my birthday, luckily one son was visiting when the flowers from other son arrived, so I had much-needed help with the box. Really beautiful flowers.

marionk Sun 17-Mar-24 11:52:46

Gosh, no I don’t think about colour schemes. I do avoid lilies unless I know the recipient likes them, so many people hate the smell or the ‘funeral’ connotation. I was given lots of flowers when I lost my DH but the best floral gift was a garden plant from a friend, it begins to bloom just at the time of DH’s anniversary, so I have taken this idea forward when people are bereaved, they can then choose to pop them in the garden as a memorial or just bin them when they finish flowering.

NannyKnit Sun 17-Mar-24 11:52:15

I don’t really think about it - I rarely send them these days. It was my 70th birthday in November and my daughter is sending me monthly flowers celebrating each decade, via Bloom & Wild. They’re always seasonal and have all been very different in type & colour. I don’t mind at all what colour they are. These were February’s.

Bookfan Sun 17-Mar-24 11:45:38

Whilst on the subject- be warned about using Prestige flowers- I received a Mothers Day bouquet which was mostly dead the next day. I complained and received a replacement- also mostly dying flowers- A 3rd bunch was also poor quality but despite photo evidence ‘customer service’ insists there are ‘no quality issues’! I have since discovered warnings about this company on social media.

knspol Sun 17-Mar-24 11:38:09

This time of year in think any spring flowers are in order and most people will be able to find a spot for some brightly coloured tulips, daffs etc. The rest of the year I send mainly white flowers with colour in the form of greenery as that's my personal preference, hate loud, garish coloured flowers.
