Steve Harley RIP

RIP Steve. Always made me smile.

My son was in the same rock band at Colchester Grammar school with his son , Kerr 🎶

I loved his songs (but was in love with David Cassidy!) I remember Make me Smile being played at my Uncle's funeral. Such an apt song as my Uncle was only fifty and more like a big brother and a lovelychap.

Strange to hear it mentioned as "an early death". He was 73 - past his promised three score years and ten!

Cockney Rebel was the first non-classical concert I went to. Hammersmith Odeon in 1976 or 1977. RIP Steve.

Psychomodo was one of my first albums which I bought for myself. I still listen to some of the songs on it which were so different in their time.
I saw Steve Harley at the Isle of Wight Festival and I was disappointed he hadn't warmed up his voice. It was about half way through that he became the Steve Harley I knew and loved.

I think he was quite underrated, having listened to some of those songs you've mentioned.

I was so sad to see this news yesterday too. Loved all his music.
All the good ones are leaving it seems to me, too sad.

I absolutely love 'Sebastian' and have it blasting out in the car often, along with 'Judy Teen', 'Psychomodo', 'Hideaway', and so many more that are so good. What a loss. Rest easy Steve.

I was gutted yesterday when I heard the news. He was a true legend in my eyes and such a lovely guy. I was introduced to his music in the late seventies and saw him live many times. At least his music lives on and will continue to be played in this house 😢

I love that song and also ‘Judy Teen’ its forerunner. Sad to hear of his death, especially following Dave Myers, another favourite of mine. Cancer is a truly awful disease and it will be happy days all round when we get more breakthroughs in treating more varieties of it.

Very sad news, Come Up And See Me Make Me Smile is one of my husband’s favourite songs.

He was one of my first crushes at 14!

I was thinking the other day (rare thing I know) of what music they would be playing in an old folks home these days. Vera Lynne seems the songs always played on tv shows for old folks. Imagine Steve Harley and groups like The Sweet, Marc Bolan, Mud, David Bowie et al blasting out. Doesn’t quite fit in my mind.

I understand that BlueBelle. Many years of my life were lost in an abusive marriage and I only became acquainted with the song much later, after I became free again.

No sorry folks had a look and a listen, not familiar with it I guess I wasn’t into glam rock and 1975 when it appears it came out I was trying to get three little children out of an abusive marriage so probably not noticing it

I knew Steve was very ill but genuinely thought he would recover as he'd said he would be touring again, so the news was something of a shock. Have seen him perform many times at The Stables.
So sad.

I'm another who loved Steve Harley and his lovely song. Somehow it doesn't seem to matter that he was mostly known just for that one song! It was such a special song it will live in our hearts forever. 🥰💐🙋‍♀️
