Picked a pack up in a hurry - lemon and white chocolate!!
Why on earth are Hot X buns ever buggered about with - the traditional recipe is so nice.
To me, white chocolate is the work of Satan anyway. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Iโ€™ll buck the trend and say I enjoy all the different flavours of hot cross buns.Just about to have a cuppa with the berry ones from Sainsbury, delish.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The Tesco ones (from the bakery, not the shelf) are good. I know they are not made from scratch in store but still risen, not stodgy and very fresh.

I used to love walking down to the local baker's when we lived in Devon, probably the only shop open on Good Friday then, to buy a paper bag on freshly baked hot cross buns.

Am I the only one who thinks this year they seem flat and stoggy, from the Supermarkets? I tend to buy them at M&S, but I still remember them round and more bouncy or is my memory thinking of something else?
Wish we had a traditional Bakery near us, the Buns would probably be better. Next year I'm going to make some.
Still eat them though.

I saw these today, a mince pie hot cross bun hybrid.

Yes please Joseann. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Rosie51 Fri 29-Mar-24 13:41:05

Traditional for me too. By all means experiment with other flavour combinations but call them 'caramel fruit buns' or 'white chocolate fruit buns' etc just don't sully the good name of hot cross buns grin

Smileless2012 Fri 29-Mar-24 13:37:39

Only the traditional ones for us.

Georgesgran Fri 29-Mar-24 13:30:03

As Dawn French says on the M&S ad - try a crumpet!
I donโ€™t โ€˜doโ€™ dried fruit, so traditional HCBs are out and some of the variations sound horrible.

white chocolate chops

What have the pigs/ lambs been eating to produce these?

grin

I love all the different flavours of Hot Cross Buns or Mince Pies - there's nothing wrong with trying something new!

Astitchintime Fri 29-Mar-24 13:25:35

I'm a traditionalist too.........leave the Hot Cross Buns alone! It's the same with Mince Pies though, all manner of flavours, fillings and methods to top them.......just ghastly! angry

JudyBloom Fri 29-Mar-24 13:17:25

I agree. Leave Hot Cross Buns alone, there is only one flavour, any other flavour is sacrilege to the sacred Hot Cross Bun. Make different flavoured buns by all means, but they should not be called Hot Cross Buns!

We had some from M&S by mistake which were orange with orange bits in which were very nice.

I hadn't realised there were all those different flavours, they sound awful

Primrose53 Fri 29-Mar-24 13:05:55

You have to look very carefully amongst the HCB packets because there are now such a range of flavours most of which Donโ€™t appeal to me.

I even saw cheese and something or other this week.

Purplepixie Fri 29-Mar-24 13:05:55

Traditional ones for me. Well done to you all for making them yourselves.

Joseann Fri 29-Mar-24 13:00:24

Et voilร ! Anyone want to help me eat them?

Joseann Fri 29-Mar-24 12:42:02

I use white chocolate chops in muffins, and they are yummy!

Batch of home made buns going in now. DH is singing at Easter services and concerts, so these are all for me!!

I agree with you on the shite chocolate front Witzend. The birds will eat them- my magpies love stale buns and fruit bread. (Someone is going to tell me off now for poisoning wildlif)

I hate banana flavoured anything said Grandmabatty. Meanwhile I am enjoying my favourite = traditional Buttered Hot Cross Bun with half a banana squished inside. YUM YUM
