I had the impression that she was forced back by the press. The press probably influenced some public opinion.

It's a terrific area to visit.

I would enjoy visiting Balmoral, I love Scottish castles. Last year we visited Glamis and it was wonderful.

Harrigran visit Balmoral and you’ll have a plethora of castles to visit. Off the top of my head, Braemar, Crathes, Drum, Craigievar, Fyvie, Castle Fraser, Dunottar and Haddo all within about a 50 miles radius. A little further afield and you also have Cawdor, Brodie and Corgarff. I’m sure I’ve missed out some, as well!

I was thinking on those lines Granny23. Balmoral is no further away from London than London is from Balmoral.

I told my sister-in-law something along those lines when she complained at how far it was from Cambridge to NE Scotland on the one occasion they visited us. It’s exactly the same distance for us from NE Scotland to Cambridge on the many occasions we visited them!

I cannot suppress a wry smile when reading all the posts which say that Balmoral is "too far away to visit". Now you know what it is like for those who live in the north of Scotland when most major events, from the Coronation to the Olympics, are held in London.

I agree, nothing is cheap. We paid £30 each to see a load of old stones with the grandchildren last week!
When you think of theatre tickets, spa days, dining experiences, helicopter rides, you don't get much for under £100.
I'm cheap, a day out on the beach in Cornwall does it just as much for me, if it weren't so horribly wet and miserable.

Well it certainly sounds expensive to me! We've got a special wedding anniversary coming up this year and I can think of many more things or experiences I'd rather spend that kind of money enjoying.

Definitely in line with similar unique experiences.

£150 doesn’t sound any more expensive than many ‘experiences’ nowadays.

I think it would make a lovely treat for a couple celebrating a special wedding anniversary say.

Would much prefer something like that to a party.

Terry Waite and his family were also invited to stay in a cottage in the grounds after his 5 year hostage ordeal.

I'd absolutely love to go there if I lived nearer.

The late Queen also spent hours there with her shocked and traumatised grandsons after their mother died in such a shocking way.

She was doing what any loving grandmother would do, together with their father, giving them time, shielding them from the public gaze, preparing them for what lay ahead.

Until she was forced back to London by the Prime Minister and the young boys were made to show themselves in public. Blair, himself a father himself too. No compassion. It was a dreadful thing to do.

She also cared for Timothy Knatchbull at Balmoral after he survived the IRA bomb which exploded on their fishing boat, killing his grandfather, Lord Louis, twin brother, Nicholas, their deckhand, Paul Maxwell and an elderly family member, Lady Brabourne.

A true place of sanctuary.

If it weren’t such a journey to get there I’d pay it - I imagine it’s fascinating to see. But alas it’s sold out - perhaps another year.

If Balmoral was closer to where I live then I would be interested....but at that price it would probably remain just an interest.

The cheaper tour is not of the entire castle.

Couple of days ago the media informed us of the possibility to view rooms not usually open to the public. Hence the price.

'Parts of Balmoral Castle used by the royal family will open to the public for the first time – for those who have deep pockets.

For £100 for an adult ticket – and an extra £50 for those wishing to partake of afternoon tea – guided summer tours of the castle in Aberdeenshire are being offered, limited to 40 people a day and in groups restricted to 10 people.

It is the first time since the castle’s completion in 1855 that visitors will be shown two dining rooms, the drawing room, the page’s lobby and the red corridor, where King Charles greeted Rishi Sunak.'

I'd love to go but it's a bit far away for us.

It doesn't interest me. We've been to a garden party at Buckingham Palace which was great but I wouldn't pay to go to a royal residence.

I would love to go. Living in Wales it(as I do) is too far.

I've become quite interested in visiting royal properties recently - both at home and abroad. I think we paid 32 euros each for Schloss Schönbrun.
I would like to do the Balmoral tour, but it's too far away. I'd want the corgi experience to be included though.

I have heard of two charges

Bluebelle Agree this is what media platforms are saying is the charge … I didn’t hear/see any lower charges so who is advertising fake news?
