I thought everyone knew that!
I'm amazed that there are conspiracy theories about contrails but, of course, anything and everything inspires a conspiracy theory on the internet now.

Cloud seeding is not a conspiracy theory.

Yes, caused by airplanes. Depending on altitude and humidity, they may disperse quickly, or stick around for hours, moving with the winds but retaining shape.

It's funny how those who think it is a conspiracy to spread chemicals or viruses are the ones who won't wear masks.

I've always believed that they are simply the trails from planes, which linger after the plane has gone.
But maybe, like Aldous Huxley said, "Building the rafters of the Brave New World".
My bet's on planes.

Definitely not a weather phenomenon. Plenty of groups on FB with factual information, whistleblower pilots, scientific explanations etc. I can send you some links if you’re interested - not many on here awake to what’s actually going on.

I've heard of cloud seeding but I thought vapour trails were just that - vapour trails left by high-flying planes.

It's sunny but hazy today so I can only see two.

I agree, I live under the Heathrow flight path and see so many of these vapour trails, including darker ones where fuel is dumped - though we are told this doesn't happen we can actually smell aviation fuel some days.
Some days there are trails crossing everywhere, but if you watch them you will see that they are blown in variable directions/speeds with the winds at different levels in the sky.
It isn't unusual to be able to see a number of planes going in several directions at the same time, taking off, landing or simply flying over at a higher level, and these trails are blown all over the place.
In some calm weather conditions they can last for hours, often becoming wider and paler.

I have always preferred the theory of most things going wrong through cock-ups to conspiracy theories.

It pains me to see how unaware so many are of Geo-Engineering/Weather Manipulation. This has been going on for years.

Contrails disappear - chemtrails linger, they can be switched on and off. They blur together and whiten the sky. Watch the skies. How often do we get the lovely fluffy clouds of old? Now we see white streaks that cris-cross and blend together blocking the sun. If I could post photos of examples I would. A couple of US states have now banned the practice.

"All jet engines can potentially produce contrails, but specific atmospheric conditions are required for contrail formation, per the National Weather Service. The air needs to be both cool and humid — conditions that are most commonly found at cruising altitude." (from Petra's link at Fri 12-Apr-24 13:14:12 ) - so condensation trails may be seen when the planes causing them are cruising at high altitudes, nowhere near an airport, and may be too high to easily spot.

Thanks for that link, Elegran - very interesting and convincing, but of course the conspiracy theorists will be sure that David Keith and other scientists are speaking a load of rubbish. What can you do? Sometimes I despair of the human race!

I love Robin202s suggestion that some US states have banned con trails.

My question is how, given they are a product of the climatic conditions at the height the plane is flying, over which no one has any control?

Plenty of fluffy white clouds here in the UK today
Then an enormous black one and an absolute deluge.

Someone must have been manipulating the weather 😯

I can't speak for America, of course, anything could be happening there 😁

Vapour trails !

Personally, now I know about cloud seeding existing, and right back to the 50s, that answers my personal questions.

I am never one to get hung up on words. In this case contrails, chemtrails, or whatever.

It’s more than just words, fancythat. Contrails are lines of condensation left by planes. Chemtrails are the result of conspiracy thinking and do not exist!

I am happy to lose the word chemtrail.

I am happy to know about cloud seeding.
I am happy about weather manipulation.

I am now happy about contrails. I presume I am happy about vapour trails.

I am happy about trails blowing around.
I am happy about sky pencils.

Just so long as you don't assume every single condensation trail from the vapour left behind by a plane is a trail of chemicals designed to poison those below - that way lies constant anxiety, which will eventually make you as ill as being sprayed with nerve gas from an enemy plane.

At the same time, you also have to bear in mind that not everyone has the well-being of others as one of their priorities . . .
