I have a NHS dentist, but i feel I'm needing more the dental care. I have a private dentist near me who use Denplan and am considering moving.
Thoughts?

I have a Denplan and am very pleased with it. It enables me to see the dentist or hygienist every 3 months and therefore means they always catch any problems early. I consider it the best insurance I have.

Ours is only every six months, a check up and the hygienist.
DH sees the hygienist every three months but has to pay for two of those visits.

My friend paid into Denplan for years. It was fine sll the while she didn't need treatment. When she had problems with her teeth she found those issues weren't covered. We use a private dentist. Last year we both had major treatment. It cost less for both of than my friend was paying into Denplan per year. I suggest opening a high interest savings account and paying the equivalent monthly payments into that and finding a private dentist.

NHS every time

If there is an NHS dentist in your area with a space available for a new patient. These people queue in hope.
Even children are unable to get NHS dental appointments.

Had 6 month NHS check up with NHS only on Monday. Had 2 yearly xrays done just to check what can't be seen on surface. No issues found. Dentist removed a bit of tartar on lower incisors. Cost £11.04. NHS everytime.

Band 1 is £26.80

*NHS band.

There isn't an NHS for that amount.

Reading everybody else's comments I realise I'm paying well over the norm for my Denplan at £53 per month!

😯

Do you get free veneers and crowns for that?!!

Denplan is very good but, if someone has an NHS dentist, why on earth would they change.

Why indeed!

We were left without an NHS dentist in this town when the NHS contracts were changed in the early 2000s.

I know this is slightly off the subject but does anyone know if you have an nhs dentist in wales and move over the border to England can you still be seen in wales

I've been with Denplan for nearly 30 years and have found it excellent - particularly the regular hygienist checkups. Money well spent.

Indeed, am sure that they are.

Role just to say I have had two women dentists, one was a wicked witch of a school dentist who drilled and filled all but one tooth and later in my 20 s another woman dentist ruined my teeth and jaw by unnecessary treatment. She was struck off but too late for me. I had to have all her fillings removed and replaced. Hence my ongoing fear of the dentist.
Actually I had another woman dentist much later who was patient and kindness itself.

The two female dentists I’ve seen recently are both young …. fingers crossed they are better trained than the dreadful ones you’ve experienced.

I swear by Denplan. DH has a checkup every 6 months and hygienist every 3 months. I broke my tooth recently and was seen immediately and had a crown fitted. Only had to pay £195 and it would have cost a LOT more. Also have the usual checkups etc but have the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong it will be sorted straight away and not have an unforeseen expense

Im with Denplan and pay £30 a month and it is worth every penny. No nhs dentists within 20miles. This covers two check ups 4 hygienist visits all xrays, all filling, root canals treatments, or extractions.

I’ve had a lot of work on my teeth over the years, crowns, bridges etc on NHS, and when my dentist went private he advised that it would be very expensive to take out Denplan and advised putting money away in separate account to cover any work needed. This was 20years ago and I’ve since paid for treatment as necessary and am sure Denplan would have cost much more over time.
An insurance company is out to make money after all!

I have been with Denplan for 20+ years. I see my dentist every 3 months and he cleans and check my gnashers. I only ever have to pay extra for laboratory work which is not very often.

I have been with Denplan for some years and would recommend them.

Just googled and nhs bands are
Band 1 £26,
Band 2 £73
Band 3 £319 for crowns root canal etc.

Prices in Scotland are different. I am with an NHS dentist and had an NHS crown fitted. The whole cost came to £150. As it was a back tooth, and not seen, I just went for NHS crown which is metal rather than ceramic.

When my dentist brought in Denplan my elderly neighbour and his wife opened a bank account and every month saved the Denplan charge. They have used this account to pay for any check ups and treatment. They have a tidy sum now in this account!
