I've always wondered about the Hitler connection and who was really behind it. I suspect Edward (who was quite a socialist in his youth) was as seduced by the prospect of financial stability as many Germans were. The poverty he saw in working class Britain in the 1930s shocked him.

Yes, I doubt Wallis would have gone off on her own to meet Hitler, Edward was keen too.
It showed a lack of judgement which would not have been a good thing in a Head of State.

Just to rub Harry’s nose in it, KC and William have a joint engagement on Monday!

But that wasn't to do with just family - it was a Constitutional crisis and yes, it had a huge impact nationally and in fact internationally too.
In the long-term it was a blessing although it did not seem so at the time.

It was only a Constitutional crisis because the government chose to make it one. Edward was prepared to have a morganatic marriage and some politicians backed him. Baldwin and the government did not.

It might be as simple as Charles having a few days per chemo cycle where he feels absolutely awful, and not up to seeing anyone.

Charles probably wants to heal with the less stress possible. He's not going to want Harry discussing a meeting on Netflix..

If Harry was my son, I'd not want to see him either.

I prefer the term ‘staff’. Calli it sounds less demeaning.

It’s true, family relations in the royal family are different to most of us.
They spend so much time apart, boarding schools, army etc., probably meeting just for conferences on “the firm” or official occasions. Add on to that betrayal and family illness, it’s probably no big deal to not meet up.

Not all of us spend 24/7 together and why would spending time apart due to work, boarding school etc make family ties any less loving and strong?

Although most of us don't have servants.

Back nearly 85 years. I think most families would congratulate themselves on going that long without a major falling out.

Anyway, the past is another country, they do things differently there.

I have personal experience of an ex in-law who has serious issues with family it has destroyed that ex in law and very nearly destroyed my adult child.

I’d do all in my power to protect and heal the relationship problems and we don’t know that that’s not what is happening in this case privately. I do hope that is the case .

Bitterness and vengeance has a lot to answer for.

Thank you Cossy my darling died a year later. It’s so easy to
say one would forgive, Harry has gone too far, even telling the
world what he said to his grandmother’s body when he was paying respects! Why should the royal family members not feel betrayed?

As Harry clearly can help exploiting his family for $$$$ or publicity then I don’t blame Charles at all for not meeting him. I would be concerned that any conversations would be secretly taped or filmed as Curtaintwitcher says.

I think Charles has enough on his plate without trying to sort out Harry.
Having said that, I think it's a bit churlish not to let Harry stay at one of the Royal residences, they're big enough, unless it's his choice.

There's a nice cottage in Wales somewhere ....

I suspect that everyone fears Harry has a tape recorder and microphone hidden about his person wherever he goes. Anything said will be recorded and used in evidence, etc.

Is Harry really so naive that he thinks he has done nothing wrong?
He still seems to think he's doing everyone a favour and should be treated like the prodigal son.

I don’t speak for Meghan, as I think she’s much stronger and smarter in many ways than H, but I do think he truly believes he’s the wronged one, the victim, I think he is niave.

Most of the Royals are really detached from the kind of reality that applies to most of us.

I couldn't imagine not finding the time to see one of my children who lives thousands of miles away. Any more than I could imagine bad-mouthing my parents on TV or in a book.

However "normal" they claim to be, they really have no idea what normal really is for the majority of the population.

There are many people who are estranged from children and grandchildren, sadly. It's not unheard of.

Most of the Royals are really detached from the kind of reality that applies to most of us.
We only see the public image and I'm sure they have the same feelings for their family that most of us have.
At least most of us don't have our private lives dissected in the press, on social media.

Reading some posts on here, it's so sad when this happens but sometimes it must be essential to distance yourself from toxic members of your family.
