The demise of the milkman/woman.

Milk is delivered where I live at 3 am, not in an electric vehicle and on a bumpy road makes a lot of noise, which starts dogs barking, it is a road of 10 houses with one household having the delivery, seems a waste of resources and causes a disturbance. The house in question has a Tesco delivery weekly so have no idea why they also want overpriced milk.

We still have the milkman here - 3 deliveries a week, usually in the wee small hours. It’s more expensive, but to us it’s worth it for the convenience, not to mention a lot less plastic in the recycling bin.

Not been any delivers here since way back when I haven’t seen a milk float for many many years I haven’t had any deliveries of anything in probably 40 or more years
I used to enjoy finding it on my doorstep I can’t think when I stopped but we used to have lots of deliveries when the children were young so 50 plus plus years ago Now just the postman and he’s getting scarce

They still deliver milk bottles around here. I have had milk deliveries for a very long time. I much prefer to get cartons of filtered milk when I go to the supermarket.

We had a delivery by a local farm until they started delivering at 3.30 am and didn't do it quietly. We now have Sainsbury's.

Yes, I live in quite a large town but I still only get three deliveries a week. A whole range of other things apart from dairy products can be delivered including bags of soil and compost.

Yes.. Always it's in bottles so better to recycle as well. I just have him x3 per week, can add or subtract via an App. Also delivers lots of other groceries if you want them.

I did originally (with a gap when organic went into plastic bottles) until recently when they changed dairy providers and our organic whole milk became homogenised, without warning. It was delivered between midnight and 1am so on a hot day it would be quickly off if I didn't catch it before I went to bed.

If there was an issue with a delivery (or if off) it became a real palaver to report it.

I just gave up.

Until we moved to our current home I have always supported our local milk delivery.
I know how some elderly/disabled people rely on doorstep deliveries and wanted to continue the tradition.

In one house in Lancashire the milk lady would deliver at all times of the day or night and ring our doorbell to let us know she had been, this caused us a lot of angst as we had a baby.

In Newcastle upon Tyne, the milk was always delivered promptly and quietly but frequently stolen.

In Shropshire the milk delivery 3 times a week as we lived very rurally was the highlight of the dogs day, three black labs would bark growl and chase the milk van down the track, the milkman never read the notes left he would just plonk down 4 bottles and run, we were either short on milk or had a glut.

So moving on we are in our 11th home and buy milk locally, there are just the two of us and we consume very little, I have always felt guilty and thought we should start, that was until this morning at 3.40 when the milk float came whirring up the Avenue, parked by our house and then the banging and clattering started, it was so loud!

Unfortunately I never got back to sleep and the guilt has melted away!
