The king has knighted Alan Bates, very, very well deserved…(post office scandal)

TillyTrotter Sat 15-Jun-24 17:06:32

I agree and as Sir Alan said in response
‘it is another string to his bow, to help him go forward, and get finality for people’ affected by the atrocious Post Office scandal.

Congratulations Sir Alan 👏👏👏

Well done King! Congrats to Alan!

Has any party factored compensation for the wrongly convicted sub-postmasters (and that due to victims of contaminated blood) into their figures? If they have, I haven’t noticed. It’s a matter close to my heart because my granddad was a sub-postmaster for many years and I well remember the time taken on a Saturday afternoon to balance the books. Thank God he retired very many years ago.

Charleygirl5 Sat 15-Jun-24 17:39:20

Well deserved and about time.

A Knighthood won’t pay his bills or compensate for the years of stress he endured.Persoally I would have thought he,d tell them where to shove it …it’s like an employer who gives you promotion because a new job title will make you FEEL valued…just not valued enough for a pay rise.You.ve lost some credibility in my book Mr Bates.Sold your soul for a worthless medieval title!!

Haven’t heard anything and the blood business affected my sister. Perhaps we’re just expected to take anything that has already been mooted as going ahead, whoever is in power.

I doubt that Sir Alan has sold his soul grin. He doesn't seem the type to sell out. Will his having a knighthood lessen the chances of the others getting compensation? I can't see how, really.

Shinamae Sat 15-Jun-24 18:41:28

Wow…..”Sold your soul for a worthless medieval title!!”
I would think he’s honoured and appreciative…

Alan Bates said he has accepted the honour on behalf of all the sub-postmasters and that it is for them all.

Well deserved.

Ridiculous, Sir Bates, has accepted his Knighthood and has said he will use it whenever and wherever he can to fight injustices.

Maybe you should take a few deep breaths before ranting against the Crown and Westminster paddyanne54 as it is becoming monotonous.

Mollygo Sat 15-Jun-24 19:18:17

pa54 Of course a knighthood won’t pay his bills, but he has said he will use it to fight injustices. Maybe he sees it as a reward for all his efforts so far.
Do you begrudge him that?

AGAA4 Sat 15-Jun-24 19:33:44

He deserves this. Without his dogged determination to clear his name this gross injustice may have not seen the light of day. Well done Sir Alan.

Glad to see Scotland has finally managed to overturn the erroneous sub post masters' convictions months after England.
In Scotland the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) had sole responsibility for prosecuting Horizon cases, whereas in England the Post Office could act as prosecutor. Seems strange the COPFS found so many wrongly guilty, Scotland doesn't seem to be asking the question, why?

Oh come on paddyann

Sir Alan refused an OBE as long as Paula Vennells still had her CBE.
It could have been that it was offered by the Government too. This one has been awarded by the King and been gracefully accepted on behalf of all subpostermasters and mistresses.

Quite right imo, very well deserved and will be an added string to the bow in the fight for justice.

Scotland has little to be proud of, even more so than the rest of the UK.

Sir Alan Bates will fight on for them, too, regardless.

Paddyann, you can’t help yourself, can you?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 16-Jun-24 09:17:55

What a nasty, petty post Paddyann.
