Just a few minutes watching the show and I'm sure you can tell it's a very odd and unusual way to do things.

I have a friend whose daughter was on ‘Don’t Tell The Bride’.

The bride’s mum wasn’t happy as she wanted the wedding in the local church where all the rest of the family had married, plus the dress the future husband chose was a casual cotton shift, also not mum’s idea of a wedding dress.

The ‘wedding’ took place on a rooftop warehouse type place, but seeing as it wasn’t registered for weddings, it wasn’t even legal and a proper ‘wedding’ took place a few days later, not in front of the cameras of course.

Think the bride was disappointed with her partner’s choices, but I suppose it paid for the honeymoon etc.

Never watched any bridal reality show, so only have experience of absolutely ordinary standard weddings where the whole family muck in and nobody, not even the bride, feels a need to grandstand.

I’m not out of touch in general but I might not be in touch with current UK wedding protocol!

DD knew a family whose son was on The Farmer Wants a Wife (Australia). We had visited their place too as they had a restaurant there.
We all knew full well the young man already had a fiancee 🤔

Huia, the draw of the show is that the groom is (conventionally) much less involved than the bride and her family.

I wondered how, in NZ, anyone might think "Don't tell the bride" is "normal".

I apologise if you had been led to believe that the UK normally does it like this.

The dress shop owners, florists, venues (etc) are astounded when the groom says that this is what they are doing.

Well, I'd be handing the engagement ring back pdq if I were her.
