It's surprising how many people have one opinion in public but quite another in private.

I wonder why so many people get satisfaction out of someone doing things for them. Does it boost their egos?

People used to consult a doctor only when absolutely necessary. Now that it's free, they are at the doctors for the slightest thing.

I consulted my doctor when I was ill but they told me there were no appointments so I rang for an ambulance. I had double pneumonia and was in hospital for a week on IV antibiotics.

So no, I do not agree that people consult a GP for the slightest thing as they know it will be useless as they cannot even get through on the phone never mind speak to a doctor.

I have recently received a message from my GP that from the 25th July, anyone wanting a GP appointment will have to go through a triage check and will have to go online and fill in their medical problems so that the GP can assess them to see if they need medication or not.

Can you imagine, the elderly (I am 82 and am computer literate so no problem for me) but what about others, such as my friends of the same age who do not even own a smart phone or have any techynological items in their home. What happens to them, do they just sit at home and die.

The mind boggles.

curtaintwitcher, I have always held that people don't value "free" things.
They don't physically pay GPs and the NHS so it's value is not so great; ditto education... In countries where one has to pay for education, it is greatly valued; in this country, parents make great sacrifices to send their children to public schools.
