Sago we travelled home from London by train last year despite my misgivings (we usually book a car to pick us up)
The local team had lost, and we were sat with a group of supporters, I was very anxious!
Within a few minutes they were chatting with us and DS, commiserating and joking about how dreadful our team had played (we all supported the same team) They had definitely had a few beers, but were what I suppose is described as happy drunks, and made for an enjoyable train ride.
I really do not think it’s the football that is the problem, these men (and sometimes women) have no social skills, do not think of anyone but themselves. They use football as an excuse to forget the social mores.
I was raised in the circle of the 66 team, parents knew them all well. There were plenty of hooligans who hooked onto football as an excuse back then also.
