Jeremy Hunt’s children left notes to welcome Sir Keir Starmer’s son and daughter into Downing Street.
The Prime Minister has taken the larger flat above Number 11 that was occupied by the former chancellor, his wife Lucia and their children Jack, 13, Anna, 11 and Eleanor, nine.
He revealed the youngsters had written thoughtful letters to his children, who are aged 16 and 13.
Sir Keir said: “In terms of notes what I will tell you is this, it was very nice. Jeremy Hunt’s children left notes for our children coming into the Number 11 flat.
“We have not moved in yet because we didn’t want to leave the kids there while we were away, but I think that was really sweet and thoughtful of them to do that because for children this is very impactful.
“They have been through it. They are slightly different ages but for them to be thoughtful enough to leave a note is very special... our children were very pleased to get those notes.”
Romance for Larry? His biography would be a hoot.

I think he has a cat called JoJo…
Larry will be pleased.
😂😂😂
It's lovely to hear that. Very kind and thoughtful of the children.
I wonder what impact growing up at No 10 has on children. I imagine it's hard to manage successfully.
I hope the Starmer children can continue to be shielded so far as is possible from publicity. Their parents never use their names but I noticed the DMail printed the older child’s name recently at the same time acknowledging the parents refusal to do so.
A kind and friendly note from the Hunt children is another positive to read about. Wouldn’t it be good to see more attempts at consensus and less shouting down. Mind you, finding consensus with Galloway or Farage parties seems unlikely.
Nice gesture! However, I doubt whether the Starmer cat can expect such a warm welcome from Larry Six Prime Ministers have previously served under him and I suspect everytine a new feline is moved in, his thoughts are "here we go again, I'll be duffing up yet another hapless mog to show him/her who's top cat around here"
Isn't it a shame that all the kindness and courtey being shown between politicians and parties being shown since the election couldn't have informed discourse between them for the last 5, or possibly 10 years.
I am reminded of a comment on DD's school report when she was 11 'after a year of awkward and difficult behaviour, in the last six weeks she has shown us just how nice she can be'
I would say the same about our politicians.

Nooo! Larry will not like that. I can't see that working at all. He already has fights with Palmerston from the Foreign Office.
Lots of great photos and video here of Larry with everyone including Trump and Obama!

There has to be a book in there somewhere for Larry to write his memoires.

As long as JoJo realises the pecking order and who is Top Cat in charge of the country!
(Hint, it's not Starmer 🐱)

Such a good thing to hear Urmstongran.
I have been impressed with the courtesy and respect shown by many MP's , in success and defeat- Rishi Sunak speaking well of Kier Starmer, and Kier Starmer referring to Rishi Sunak's importance in being the first PM of Asian origin.
Not all MP's, obviously....
I agree, it was good to hear it.
Very thoughtful of the children. They don’t care about politics, just human beings and good for them.

I think that was a lovely thing to do. I think it will be helpful for KS’s children to realise that other children have lived in Downing Street.
I had never seen Jeremy Hunt’s children before they all left together after the election. I’ve never liked JH at all, but they looked a nice family. The same when Gordon Brown left, it was the first time I’d seen his children. They’ll be all grown up by now.
One of Gordon’s children has cystic fibrosis. I do hope he’s doing well. It must have been awful for them after losing their first child

He seems to be a likeable sort of bloke, I think, with almost everyone.
Rishy was very gracious, everyone does seem to wish him the best - even some people who despise Labour government.
you must be mistaken about that quotation; the parents v much respect and protect their children's privacy
I think you'll find it was during an interview on ITV welbeck. Starmer said of his son and daughter, They are worried about it, because, I think any parent would understand this, if you are a teenage child you don’t want things to change. I'm worried about the impact and, inside, I think they are.
i'm guessing it was the mother's idea, mrs hunt.

What a kind, thoughtful thing to do.
Little girls in particular are very thoughtful I think, I bet they instigated it.

Most teenagers want to be with their mates though, not stuck in some boring country house? I bet they will find it hard, and I’m glad their anonymity is being protected.
What a kind, thoughtful thing to do.
Assuming that they have stables there, if I was Keir I’d bribe my daughter with having a pony at Chequers. I know that would have worked with my daughter!
I thought that was lovely of the Hunt children, I don’t imagine it’s much fun for any of them living in Downing Street.
