Sewing Boxes and Name Tapes

My sewing basket has name tags for all 5 children, DH and a couple of his brothers. I hated doing name tags.

Our daughters argue about should inherit the button box.

I still have my daughter's and my son's school name tags in mine. I can't think at 47 and 45 why they would ask me to sew their name into something but you never know grin

I found this in mine, it must have been bought in the 70s.

Mum had several sewing boxes and button boxes as she was a great needlewoman. I am forever finding those little embroidered tags saying “handmade with love by…. “. I ordered those for her and she proudly sewed them into anything she made.

The button boxes hold memories of duffle coat toggles, summer dresses,childrens cardis, dollsclothes etc.

My school blazer badge, sports badges, brownie badges etc are all in there.

No I'm quite sure Camilla didn't sew on the name tags for her kids and like her, I no longer have a sewing box!

I’ve just been sorting through a sewing box which my Mum gave me over 50 years ago. It’s tall, thin, opens like a book & is made with wood from a redundant altar. I have never emptied it or cleaned it in all those years - first time for everything. It’s now dust free & shiny with Pledge! I found all sorts of odds and ends, full of memories, buttons, a needle case made by my Mum before the War, ribbons kept ‘just in case’ and packs of name tapes for all three daughters which got me thinking of the panic sewing-on of the wretched things the day before the new term. Having seen Camilla on the news today all done up in her finery, I wondered, as I sorted, whether she’d ever had to do this. 🤔
What memories good or bad are hidden in your sewing boxes?
(I hate sewing btw 🤣)
