J.D.Vance causes a stir with this comment resurfacing.
My DD is childfree as they call it now and perfectly happy (without cats).
Wouldn’t have missed out on children myself but what are your thoughts?
Love my cat and it’s an insult to them…

People who have bred children need to remember that they are living upon the grace (eg taxes paid by) those who are child free

At the moment of their conception it is extremely unlikely that the parents were actually thinking of the children, but rather of their own pleasure.

So in a very real sense the childfree are paying for others to f**k and have fun.

What a silly comment. Presumably meant to be tongue in cheek. Surely you can accept that when you require the services of the medical profession, plumbers, electricians, shop staff etc that they were all somebody’s children.

My daughter is an NHS nurse who has worked herself into poor health in recent years due to the state of the health service. But she keeps on going even when caring for cantankerous individuals who are downright rude.

If history follows form then Vance will find like Mike Pence once he is in he won't have the power he imagines. and then, to top it all after years of mostly silent VP life,

Trump "threw Pence under the bus" as Pence was in the Capitol building when it was invaded and his life at risk and rioting occurred.

Trump is getting on a bit, though.
And is not always making sense when he speaks. If Vance did become VP (heaven forbid) and something happened to Trump he'd step up until a new leader was elected.

Cats are beautiful intelligent creatures but I dont have any either and have never wanted one. Keeping a pet which requires companionship when you are out at work for 8 hours a day is thoughtless and cruel.

So they might be but I've never wanted one either.

However, they might be easier to bring up than children! Or dogs.

What a disgusting comment.

Kamala actually has two stepchildren from her 2014 marriage, but that wasn't good enough, he wants women to do their biological duty and those who didn't were subject to 2021 remark,

"In the 2021 interview, Vance told Carlson that the country was being run “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.” He further lamented, “You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.”"

💁

Has nobody told him that there is a slight possiblity that people without children did not willingly not have them, but were unable for some or other good reason?

Or that people without children perhaps, just perhaps, have more time to devote to a job, or doing their civic duty?

Or mentioned that there is no reason why a country should be disadvantaged because most of its politicians never became parents?

Unfortunately, this is probably only the "First blast of the trumpet against the monsterous regiment of women" to quote a man for whom I have not, and never have had, any respect at all.

Well-educated women had little respect for John Knox in his own lifetime (1524-1572) and the world has moved on a little since then, except, apparently, in the most stupid male society.

Vance is a charmer, isn't he.

He'll trip himself up, one fine day. That's if Trump doesn't spectacularly throw him under a bus first. Loyalty is NOT Trump's strong point - when he was in the White House he very regularly fired people, often on a mere whim.

What an awful thing to say! We ALL pay taxes, it maybe people like my husband, who prior to his heart attack in 2020 had not visited a GP for 22 years!

He’s still paid towards the NHS.

There’s many other examples I could cite.

Without children our country would simply break down over a number of years.

It’s great to choose to have children, or not to have children. Very sad for those childless not through their own choice.

He’s vile, his comments are vile, and if she had children she’d be expected to be looking after them not potentially running a powerful country.

How ANYONE, with more than one brain cell, particularly women and people of colour is absolutely beyond my understanding

Every cat I have had over years have exuded more charm than Vance. I am a mother of four which will, presumably, confuse JDV.

The mothers of my grandchildren have cats.

DD decided when she was 4 that she probably did not want to be a mummy. At 20 she decided she was too uncompromising to share her life with anyone.

She is over 50 now, through the menopause and has never expressed the slightest doubts about the rightness of her decision for her. She has a niece and nephew she she loves deeply and they adore her.

Is she unhappy as a result? Not remotely. She has an excellent job, a nice home, lots of friends and lots of interests.

The one problem is the cats - she doesn't have any, and doesn't want one. Would the worlds largest collecttion of soft toy rabbits be an acceptable alternative?

I wonder if exuded is quite the word you want- too kind by far.
How about “extruded” ? 🤣🤣🤣

MissInterpreted Thu 25-Jul-24 11:37:28

He's a nasty, horrible person. What business is it of his or anyone else whether someone has children or not? There could be any number of reasons why someone doesn't have children - whether that's through choice or other circumstances, and it doesn't necessarily mean that they are unhappy, often far from it.

Vance is speaking for the many men in the USA who are terrified of strong, powerful women.. it has ever been the case..

It is pathetic..

It seems to me that Vance is as extreme as Trump and I don’t think he will be an asset, the vitriol that they are both resorting to is very unpleasant. When the euphoria around Harris has settled down we will see what US voters think of each party.

Currently it looks like Harris will win but we don’t know much about her policies, maybe in 4 weeks after the convention it will be much clearer.

I have seen Vance speak. He is vindictive and nasty and if anyone is miserable it's him.

Granmarderby10 Thu 25-Jul-24 10:12:33

JaneJudge of course he is a sexist pig, he is TrumpMk2, - carrying on the legacy.
The beard will have to go though - apparently - people generally according to data statistics- mistrust beards🙃

JaneJudge Thu 25-Jul-24 10:11:48

imagine having to be married to it

although the wives of these Neanderthals are generally just as bad

MaizieD Thu 25-Jul-24 10:10:33

Well, that's no doubt earned the Democrats the votes of a substantial number of childless women😆

Who else can the GOP insult away from voting for them?

Smileless2012 Thu 25-Jul-24 10:08:43

Pigs are a lot more intelligent than Vance.
