The Gambols

Yes I do, butI wasn’t terribly interested in it. Too young possibly. I also remember ‘Jane’.

I remember them, Ivy - although I always preferred the Larks and the Flutters in the Daily Mirror.

I can visualise them, and I think the wife may have been called Gay!

Wasn’t the husband called George?

Yes I remember the Gambols too..

Remember one cartoon, Gay was baking and took a Madeira cake out of the oven. She said “There, a nice Madeira cake. It’ll last all week”. George said “But I don’t like Madeira cake. Why didn’t you make a fruit cake?”

Gay said “You’d eat it all today and there would be none left for the rest of the week!”

How weird! I was just thinking about the Gambols! I think it was a thread on here that reminded me.

I think I used to have a book of the cartoons. Certainly read it every day in the Express. I think on the whole though, it was based on 50s gender stereotypes so much of it wouldn't be appropriate today.

No, with Gaye cooking and baking in a frilly apron, her main interest seemed to be clothes and having her hair done and spending George’s money.

No kids, but she didn’t seem to have a job, apart from running the house.
