I saw a reel earlier, and have tried to find it again but can't, so I'll try to remember what the instructor said.
To build up to balance exercises, start by holding out your thumb in front of you, whilst sitting. Then move your arm through 180 degrees, and follow your thumb with your eyes. Repeat a few times, then move your thumb up and down a few times instead of side to side.
Then do the same, but follow your thumb with your head - ie move your head from side to side, then up and down, looking at your thumb.
The next stage is to do all of that whilst standing, holding onto a chair if necessary, and having the chair nearby just in case if you can manage without holding on.
I'm not 100% sure how this works, but that is what was recommended. Maybe someone on here knows the benefits? Anyway, the idea is that when you've mastered this, you can then move on to the one leg exercises with less chance of falling.
