Gbatty, my mother always used a poultice of crushed fresh root ginger, powder at worst, to draw out infections. It is miraculous for thorns.

Morning from S Hants where it’s 19 and we’ve just had some light rain, it doesn’t feel so humid, for now.
The adventurers returned from Thorpe Park, tired and happy, both looking forward to their beds.
Thanks goodness your TV signal is fixed Mick it’s taken a while. Your daughter endures so much Gingster, I hope her results are good.

Good morning all from a bright and dry start to the day here on the east coast of Fife.
Yesterdays weather was extremely hot however I managed an hr sitting in the garden .
It’s meant to be hotter today reaching highs of 72, I’m hoping to eat my breakfast alfresco this morning it’s such a pleasure to be eating outdoors Bellasnana how do you cope with such hot weather? Enjoy your time with these gorgeous twin boys I’m hoping you don’t mind I’m posting a photo of us in bonny Scotland when we met up all those years ago x

Good morning from a cloudy and slightly cooler Black Country.

It was so hot yesterday, so I was up at 6am this morning to do ironing.

Check up at Dentist revealed I should have a Crown on one troublesome tooth. So that will be £319! Appointment is October so gives me time to be prepared.

We are off later this morning to Somerset where Caravan is stored. Will stop off in Bristol to see MrJ's DD who is working from home to drop off items he has for them. Then stay overnight in the caravan, before setting off to Glastonbury tomorrow morning. Then after the Gig on Saturday night we are off to Lyme Regis for the week.

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is currently 13 °C.

Grandma B my mum used to put a kaolin poultice on my dads chest for his bronchitis.
My go to remedy is a magnesium sulphate paste from the pharmacy, which draws out the poison. It is much less messy than a poultice.

So much for a restful day yesterday. I had just checked my phone after a visit to the GP surgery, when saw that Babydoll had been sent home from nursery with conjunctivitis. Consequently, I phoned DS2, who works from home and could hear *Babydoll screaming in the background. He sounded very frazzled and stressed, as he was supposed to be on a conference call and DIL was on the other side of Glasgow, working on a huge museum project.

DH only lives ten minutes from the surgery, but the only road into town is closed for three weeks. The only alternative was to make a detour on the motorway, which I haven't been on for years. I was absolutely terrified at the thought of driving on it, it is so fast. However, I was determined to do it.
It took forever, then I went into the wrong lane and ended up in a gridlocked, Morrison's car park, unable to get back out, as the whole town was gridlocked!

DHs face was a picture of relief when I arrived at his door! Of course I took over, organised saline to bathe her eyes, then fed her. I had no alternative, but feed her, because she thrust her bowl into my hand to tell me she was hungry.By the time she finished lunch, both she and I were covered in bolognese sauce! She had a GP appointment in the afternoon and needed stripped. Her beautiful blond hair was covered in sauce. 🤭

DIL arrived home just in time to take baby to her GP appointment. Unfortunately, I hurt my already painful back, preventing her from wrecking the house, so I was really struggling.
Knowing, I couldn't face the motorway, I took a circuitous route on country roads, which took me past the homes, where DH and I had been brought up.
DH was astonished when he heard of my journey, because I lost my confidence many years ago, when a lorry ploughed into me at traffic lights. I was quite proud of my achievement.

I went back out to the pharmacy, but couldn't get in and out of my car, because of my back. Dragging my leg, I tried to cross the busy Main Street, but the traffic was so busy. Then my night in shining armour appeared in a police Range Rover. He stopped the traffic to let me cross the road to the island and a lovely gentleman stopped his car on the other side, to allow me to cross. Such kindness.

I must try and get out of bed, because we have both Dollie and Babydoll today. We are off to the beach, because Dollie wants to show BabyD, where she and papa have hidden treasure. ( A large rock!)
I hope the Coastguard are on full alert, I feel that once on the sand I may never be able to get off it again!

Good morning all and it’s overcast but no rain yet here in Essex. I do hope we have a downpour.

Yesterday was another day at the hospital for Dd. She’d had a phone call at 7.45 from the hospital telling her to come straight in. Dh dropped us off and little gd came with us. We stayed with her for a couple of hours and then caught the bus home.
She had lots of intensive attention, blood tests (again) so many.
She’s home now and gd is still with us here. We await the next results!!!!.

I’m hoping to have a coffee with an old friend this morning and later go to DD’s . We’ll see!

I am volunteering at the Memory Cafe this morning and there is rain in our forecast too - probably on my walk from the car park.

Large Sainsbury's delivery this evening as DD2 and family are coming for 2 weeks tomorrow.

Good morning from Cambridgeshire fenland. A grey muggy morning and storm warnings for later.
I am off to Cambridge shopping this morning with a friend. We will browse the John Lewis sales and have an early lunch. I am off to the races on Saturday and need a few bits to complete my outfit.
Not much else planned today. The ironing pile seems to be growing fast tho so may need some attention later.
My youngest will be 40 tomorrow where have those years gone! I am fortunate to be able to enjoy celebrating with her over the next few days.

Good morning everyone from a cloudy mid Essex. A few spots of rain so far, hope we get some rain to refill the water butts and to save me having to water everything.
Good that your television aerial problems have been fixed Michael.
Yesterday after I’d walked round for my paper and a few treats for the dog, I met DD2 and the baby for a coffee in the park which was very pleasant. Did a little housework in the afternoon, then went to DD2’s for dinner.
This morning I’m looking after the 6 year old granddaughter while her mum tries to do some work.

Good morning from a dull but warm South Downs.

Thunder forecast today, so a bit of rain will be welcome for the garden.

Central heating boiler being serviced this morning and shopping delivery, but nothing else planned. If it is cool enough I will potter in the garden, having been forced indoors the past few days because of the heat.

We wait until the table is in the shade before we eat early evening, but it is very pleasant spending evenings in the garden after the heat of the day.

The fledgling starlings are already showing glossy adult feathers on their chests. They grow up quickly!! This year has seemingly been a very good year for bees of all variety. I can’t ever remember seeing the garden so busy with their activity.

The middle/late summer bed is now in full flower - the season marches on - far too quickly for my liking. The salvias Amistad is massive - far bigger than I anticipated - but I think it is the rain that has encouraged it to grow.

DH and I will be in a quiet tussle over some lavender beside some steps where he wants to put a handrail - we need it as we are getting older and tottery - and he thinks that the lavender should be grubbed up. I’ve cut it right back since it finished flowering and I think it is not in the way. 😡

The vegetable have almost without exception been good so far this year - and we have an excess of nearly everything - except where Tofu carries out his toiletry activities - usually choosing newly emerging seedlings.

My mice population has now been reduced and I have caught none now for a couple of weeks. I hope they are all enjoying their new accommodation.

We had intended to visit Petworth this week, but in truth it has been too hot for DH - whose heart does not cope with excessive heat. He has been content to watch the olympics.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and damp. It's cloudy too. Rain was not in the forecast and it's to be sunny and warm. Ash that's annoying for you, especially when you managed well at your keep fit class.
Yesterday was very productive. Lots of gardening work, washing floors, washing and ironing too. The car had it's service and is fully taxed so yesterday was an expensive day! I was in bed early too Greyduster and was up twice in the night.
Today I have a chiropodist appointment fairly early. Afterwards I intend to make lime curd. I've been contemplating it for a while and have all the ingredients to hand. I might clean the windows too. My left thumb is painful and looks poisoned so it'll need a plaster on to draw it. A kaolin poultice I think my gran used for such things. Has anyone heard of that? Spelling is probably wrong. Dinner tonight will be beef olives on a red wine sauce. Have a good day all

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a cool overcast South Yorkshire. According to the forecast it is supposed to be raining, but it isn’t. I went to bed at eight o’clock last night and slept until half past five. Peppered with weird dreams! I have a sticky eye this morning. Walking group unless it’s called off as there’s a chance of thunderstorms but not until this afternoon.

Good morning from a grey Bristol. It rained gently from about 3am, no storms here.
I had a bit of a nightmare going to Hobbycraft yesterday, involving a broken down bus, two more buses, a two hour journey and a mile walk in the heat. Then I had to deal with an idiot assistant…. I was waiting for the bus on the way home but decided I’d call an Uber. 20 minutes to get home! I was SO tired.
The afternoon was quiet, other than washing the fabrics I bought. They were not the muted colours I wanted but I don’t know where to get those.
After an early dinner, I took yet another bus, this time to town, to listen to a talk about the reredos in St. Stephen’s church in town. I don’t like it at all as it is really too different to any church art. But the explanation reconciled me to it a little. As it was in one of DD’s churches, she was there. I think a picture might be online as it is the first alter art in Europe to have been done by a black man (called Gregory? Evelyn).
Apparently, poor SiL has COVID and is in quarantine. I’m not going tonight as, obviously, I have no desire to catch it.
Today, I’ve just got tai chi.
It was wonderful to see urms posting again, welcome back.

Good morning from s somerset, it is very humid and very hot, I am hoping for rain but I don`t think it will happen

I had a really good day yesterday, moved around slowly, altering a pattern to fit my changing shape and cut my fluorescent bomber jacket. Waste not, want not so I then played tetris and managed to get another envigado vest cut with nothing to spare, all for cycling

At the end of the day I noticed that one of my long perfect fit cellular blinds had loose cords. It is within a frame and the long cord has broken, at least it is down as it protects from searing sun. I am going to have a go at fixing it but need to wait for cooler weather as I will first have to take the whole unit down and then fiddle with re-cording the blind. I managed to find perfect fit cord and have ordered that.

A new unit would cost me almost £200 and the cord is £5. If the cord has left the lines of action, I will have to take a second unit down to try and replicate the cord tracking route

There is always something or other to maintain

Thank you for your supportive messages yesterday regarding my son's friend's daughter in Southport. She is still in hospital, having suffered stab wounds requiring stitches, but might come home today. DS and his friends have collected £550 to give to her family. .

I was pleased with my early trip to Lidl yesterday as I avoided the worst of the heat (and crowds) but my knee and ankle were most uncooperative, despite having anti inflammatory gel rubbed in and a brace on the ankle.

olddudders is due to arrive later today for a fortnight. He has already set off from his home in La Sarthe. We are relieved that trains appear to be running there after last week's vandalism.

How uplifting it was to read Urms news yesterday about her beloved’s health 🤗 and to hear they’re back to their happy place next week 🥂. I’ll admit to ulterior motives on the last bit as we’re out there a few weeks later so 🏖️ keeping duties will be done…🤣

A quiet day at PG Towers as we’re off to Liverpool on a coach trip tomorrow - the mighty Anfield no less (Mr PG’s team alas 🤬) then a late lunch and a stroll around Albert Dock before a 😴 on the way home…

The Thanksgiving Service went well yesterday with a good attendance for a popular lady.
My trip to the hairdresser was good and my grey has gone!
Amazingly, having seen the GP only on Tuesday, I already have a hospital appointment in just over two weeks. Very efficient.
OH and I are going to Oxford today for our daughter’s Christmas present - afternoon tea and fizz by the river. It is still a nightmare driving into Oxford so we’ll have to allow quite a bit of extra time. We have been before to the venue and in fact last time we had our tea and then decided to have a river trip up to Iffley.
