Good morning from a grey Dunblane where rain is forecast. This is of course Andy Murray’s home town and most here would class him as a hero where many local children try to follow in his footsteps. The pride in his achievements here is quite obvious maybe not hero in the traditional sense of the word but a sporting hero definitely.

Good morning from a muggy Co Armagh, no sun but the solar fountain is working merrily!
Annual blood test this morning , not keen on medical stuff !
Enjoy the day whatever happens

Goodness, so many posts!

Wishing all a good morning from Northampton where the sun is just about to come out, but thank goodness will be a bit cooler today.
We had torrential rain yesterday evening, so I won't have to water the pots.

Hairdressers yesterday; she has done my hair a shade darker in the hopes that it will not fade to blonde too quickly.
Then I walked to the shops, had a snack and a cold drink in the M&S Cafe then shopped.for DGD's arrival later this morning. We shall be baking - in more ways than one! She wants to make cup cakes, so I think we might do half lemon and half chocolate.

Her favourite dinner tonight, M&S Posh Dogs, which are their lovely smoky BBQ flavoured sausages. Then strawberries, meringue nest and ice cream to follow. And of course I will join her in this delicious repast!

Have a good day everyone, and happy birthday 🎂 🎂 to Luluaugust.

Thank you very much for your kind good wishes
Just had the first good laugh of the day when a lovely lady delivered some flowers. I am still in my nightie and said to her I feel as if I am having a Cherie Blair moment we both laughed away.

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast.
Sister left yesterday after time in the sand dunes and through on to the beach where we sat and chatted with not a soul for miles around before she left for her long drive south.

I now have a pre-op appointment for my hernia but still waiting for the abscessed tooth to be taken out…
Washing going out on the line and a quiet day ahead.
I’ve been asked to give some singing lessons to a friend of DS, Ive had a long break from teaching, but said yes and will see how it goes.
Happy birthday Lulu and nice to see your Duracell bunny running off Mizuna!🌺

Much cooler this morning which is a great relief as these days I wilt when it is hotter than about 23 degrees. We have missed the thunderstorms so the garden hasn’t been flattened by heavy rain and still looks good. Oldies coffee morning if I get my act together but not sure I can move that fast!

Grandmabatty

gma you are, of course, entitled to your opinion, although I question why you would derail Mick's Good Morning thread with your rage. The term 'hero' has many connotations nowadays and perhaps Sporting Hero would be more apposite. I don't profess to be a tennis player but I am a Scot and I feel immensely proud of a man who has represented his country so well, despite injuries, who has such passion for his sport and who has supported women in tennis in particular. So that makes him a 'hero' to me.

I agree, GMB. gma, this is a friendly, welcoming thread. Perhaps you meant to post in the Sport forum. sad

Good morning all from another sunny day on the Angus coast - although I think it may have rained in the night. This unusually (for us here) warm weather doesn't agree with me at all and after tai chi yesterday I was completely exhausted and just went home and flopped instead of going to the shops. It's so annoying because I love sunny days and feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. There's no pleasing some folk 😉
I'm sorry for all the folk not able to sleep just now - that's miserable for you.
Happy Birthday Luluaugust. Have a lovely day.
Lovely photo Mizuna - you can feel the pure joy your little grandson was feeling as he hared off across the open space. Freedom! (Wonderful ferns and gunera too).
Today I'll not be doing very much, though I shall probably pop down to the town this morning while it's cooler. Enjoy your day everyone x

Good morning it is cloudy and foggy across the fens.
Off to watch my DGD2 in a little dancing show following her dance workshops this week.
As it is DD2 birthday we will all meet up for cake this afternoon and then off to a celebratory meal early evening with our DD and the GC.

Happy Birthday to luluaugust💐

Wishing everyone a good day

EkwaNimitee Fri 02-Aug-24 08:21:48

Good morning Mick and everyone from warm, sunny Carlisle.
Never more than 22°C here yesterday so bearable.
I got some of my little outstanding jobs done and pottered about in the front garden, mulling over potential additions to my front border and putting in a pretty little primula. Then I went and pondered over the back garden, I have plants to put in and I'm not sure where! Basically, the garden is full.

Later, I watched the Olympics and especially the women's gymnastics, those fantastic young women! And caught the end of Andy Murray's career.

I shall just potter through today, maybe getting some more of those little jobs done, maybe out in the garden. I like to be on the move.

Happy birthday to you lulu, have a good day.

And wishing you all a good day.

Have a lovely day at Hyde Hall tomorrow Liberty . You won’t be far away from me , I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

gma Fri 02-Aug-24 08:03:53

I have just read head line on front of daily express ( would not buy the paper, read it on inteternet!) describing Andy Murray as a hero as he announces his retirement ….again. No he is not a hero! He has had a very long career, doing something that he loves and being well paid for it. He has entertained millions of fans for a long while and it has paid him well. No doubt he will carry on making lots of money and a very a very comfy living! But please……..not a hero. That’s a man that risks his life saving children from a deranged killer. Rant over!!!

Liberty Fri 02-Aug-24 08:00:52

Just read all your posts. Happy birthday Lulu. Hope you have a lovely day.

brook2704 Fri 02-Aug-24 07:59:35

Good morning everyone from Inverness, we’ve a few clouds around and maybe showers later
Yesterday should have been a quiet day but 9 year old DGD came round for the day which was lovely. No plans yet for today and I’m hoping to get the garden done
A very Happy Birthday lulu enjoy your special day! 💐🎉🥂
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's hard to tell the weather from my attic bedroom. I look out onto the tree tops with blue sky peeking through.
It's certainly not too hot to sleep. That must be awful.
My volunteer shift this morning and then whatever my Helper wants to do for his last day.
We may take boxes of books to charity.
The candlelight concert last night was really moving. Such beautiful choral music.
Happy birthday Lulu. Enjoy your busy day.

I'm glad you managed the beach Marydoll despite having to share the teenage music. Your little people are blissfully unaware! 🥰

Hoping everyone has some joy today.

Good morning from a bright, but hazy Durham. Rain forecast for this evening.
Another restless night, but I’m up, as I find it impossible to lie awake in daylight and I don’t do daytime naps either, unless I’m ill.
I’ve DD2’s ironing to finish, then I’ll pack that up and take it and Little Dog back - hopefully do something with her and DGS2 later.
🎂🥂Lulu
🤞for your DD Gingster. Mine is awaiting results from X-rays and colonoscopy - just how long is that piece of string?

Best wishes to all. X

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Aug-24 07:47:38

Good morning from an overcast South Downs. The sun is forecast to burn off the cloud by 9 and then another hot day, although it is forecast to be back to normal temperatures next week. Good thing too as I find it too hot to do anything but sit around.

Happy birthday lulu enjoy your day.

Need to take some rubbish to the tip today, but nothing planned, we are still trying to potter over to Petworth for the day, but I think it will still be too hot for DH with his heart. Apparently hearts have to work harder in the heat to keep your body coo, so anything over 37 must be a particular strain I would have thought. Not that it is 37 here!!
I might pot up some seedling white foxgloves to be planted alongside cow parsley for the late spring next year, not sure they are quite big enough just yet. Also have forget me nots ready to pot on (for Duncan given by the vet) they are going to be planted under pink tulips. His own special bed has primroses and white daffodils as he died in April. Our little westie Thomas died in February 2009 and he has snowdrops and cyclamen Coum.

Yesterday we had a dove amongst the pigeons pottering around the garden. They pop up every so often, then I don’t see them again for a while. They must have an away day from their Cote!

My son and wife are in Paris today for a week I think - the athletics, so I shall soon be sent lots of photos no doubt.

Have a good cool day all.

Hope the insomniacs have a better night tonight. I sleep as nature delivered me with every single window wide open, and just a cotton sheet. Our bedroom does face north so doesn’t get any sun, so it is reasonably cooler than the rest of the house.

Peace and harmony.

Happy Birthday Lulu 🍾🥂🎂

Marydoll Fri 02-Aug-24 07:43:29

Birthday greetings, lulu.

Liberty Fri 02-Aug-24 07:43:12

Good morning from an already very warm Suffolk. We had no rain whatsoever yesterday and it seems as though we will miss it today.

We will probably walk the dog through the little wood along the field from our back gate. Although our soil is quite a heavy clay, the wood is very sandy and in the deep dell there is evidence of at least 2 more badger setts.the old ones seem to have been abandoned.

I’m off to the flower show at Hyde Hall tomorrow on an excursion with a local coach company with a friend. It is an early start but the coach will pick us up just across the road from a huge church car park where we can safely leave our cars all day.

Hope today is the best it can be for all especially those with worries or ill health.

Urmstongran Fri 02-Aug-24 07:35:50
