It is good to know that tools will be used by another generation.
DH has so many, and has let our boys know who will get what. Knowing DH, he will start to give away any tools that our boys will not need as part of his de-cluttering project.

Elder DS found an old hand-saw at a garage sale; he brought if over to show DH, who offered to clean it up a bit. I spent quite a while with steel wool to get the rust and old paint off the blade, and DH took apart the handle, polished the old wood and I took brasso to the old screws holding it together. it looks lovely now!

I have a knife that came from OH's grandfather via his mother. It tends to go rusty if I'm not careful but I love the fact that it's been held by so many people in my husbands family. MIL lived with us until she died here with us aged 101. I kept her favourite little chair and earlier in the year I went to an upholstery class and recovered it. The little antique desk also came from OH's grandfather, in fact a lot of our furniture did and I hope our daughter wants it when we no longer have need for it all.

This is lovely - we do similar things. I still use my grandparents' bean slicer (which I know must be over 100 years old)
We still have the zinc baths we were bathed in as children (in front of the fire!) but these days they are used as an ice bath for drinks at BBQs!

How lovely. Am all for passing things on. We rarely throw stuff out unless it is beyond saving. We are presently down sizing so have passed bits of nice furniture and pictures to our grown fam, anything they don’t want and we need to get rid of will go to a local charity.
In our neighbourhood people also put bits on front of their drive for others to take.
We got a good little lawn mower this way.
And we got rid of a set of dining chairs in a similar fashion.
I just don’t like to throw stuff away if I can help it.

We have just had a visit from DS2, DIL and grandson. It was lovely. Little GS was so chatty and keen to show us his bits and pieces. Before they went home I suggested to our son that he might like to look in the garage and take anything home that he could maybe use. Lots of tools later, they had quite a stash for GS and his young woodworking class. Most of the tools were inherited from my dad and uncle, so they are being passed to a new generation from his great grandad and great uncle. (I was the DIY er !) and will not be using drills, chisels, hack saws etc any more .
