My local nursery has 10% off day for seniors on Tuesday, very busy then and lots of nicely dressed people, also has an excellent but pricey restaurant.
Problems in Harry and Meghan Marriage
I went to the garden center this morning and was surprised by how busy it was. A lot of oldies out for coffee as well as plants. Many of the older ladies were extremely well dressed in designer outfits and made up and wearing all their jewellery. It never occurred to me to go out dressed like that as I am usually dressed very casually when meeting friends.

The best nursery I went to was off a back street in St David’s, run by an elderly gentleman. I believe he raised most of the plants himself and he was extremely knowledgable and helpful. We always used to call there the day before we went home, even if we weren’t staying in the immediate area, and never came away without some treasure or other. Some are still in my current garden going strong many years later.
Ooh, yes, I think I know the one you mean - www.stdavidsgardennursery.co.uk/ - great place, very knowledgeable chap.

I do Norah the best one has many glasshouses and a large shed with areas outside of different plants, it’s a nursery where they grow plants and know what they’re talking about. Not a coffee cup in sight.
No gifts that I don't need, no food, no coffee, no tea -- just plants. hanging baskets, trees, pots, mulch -- things we do need.
Garden Centres are nice for other people.

The 2 near me have shut too but I got some plants at a small supermarket this morning.Much cheaper than the garden centre.
Probaky a meet up of friends and a nice tea or meal to go with it. Nice that they bothered some days I like to dress up especially at weekends. Like to make the effort if going out even for a pub meal.

It's never warm enough here to wear my light dresses.
I don't own one!
Problem solved.

Does nobody purchase plants at nurseries? Here, the near nursery has trees, shrubs, plants, mulch, pots - people wear gardening clothing.
Winter they sell glorious fresh Christmas trees.
I used to go to one but it's shut now.
We have a local commercial nursery in my road, excellent plants all year round.
We also have numerous destination Garden Centres with restaurants (some licensed), several have animal petting areas, all have excellent gift shops along with magical Christmas displays and gifts.
We always take the GC to see Santa at one.
We have a huge plant nursery just out of town. It is so popular, it keeps expanding.
I love having a wander there.

Yes, we are lucky enough to have a little family-run nursery near us - their plants are usually much better quality than those in the garden centres too.
I do Norah! I usually call in at the nursery on my way home from my garden volunteering sessions and it doesn’t matter at all that I’m in my gardening togs.
I go to our garden centre to buy garden-related Christmas presents, and then I usually make sure I have scrubbed my finger nails. It does have a busy cafe where lots of people gather to chat, and they do do a good coffee and walnut cake!

Sounds rather good Monica quite wholesome and an alternative to those fun-factory/warehouses known as “soft-play” , better than trying to take them into a pub too as the garden centres are usually light and airy.
But the garden centre near us, has expanded. It has falconry, a Maize maze in summer, skating ring in winter, host of what I call garden shed shops, in sheds, not selling them, plus a huge delicatessen and fresh food shop. It caters for all people, all ages,
They have two restaurants and the only time we tried eating there you couldn't get in for all the mothers with young babies in there.
My son visited some garden centres after moving house and he was struck by as -described by the OP and the general atmosphere of it being a venue for meeting and eating amongst shall we say “older people” not to mention the PRICES!
He said he couldn’t help thinking that many of these centres wouldn’t survive without them as younger people will increasingly shop online. They sell fancy soaps and other household goods and “outdoorsy” clothing too.
They are a pleasant way to pass a few hours and to gaze enviously at all those gorgeous plants.

They probably think we may as well wear our "best" clothes , life will pass you buy otherwise and if you wait for the right day to wear them it is gone in a moment, life has a way of passing us by faster than we are able to keep up.
I think this is me - trying to get good wear from all of the clothes I’ve already got - including all of those dresses I’ve bought for ‘occasions’. I’ve been trying to work out different ways to wear them more informally, with jumpers over the top, opaque or footless tights and chunky boots and trainers. I don’t think there’s such a distinction between dressing up and ‘comfortable clothes’ - I would never go out feeling uncomfortable. But I think that other people do think that I’m quite ‘dressed up’ a lot of the time.
I've always found Josef Seibel shoes and boots very comfortable. I'm living in their sandals this hot weather. Quite expensive but well worth it.
I haven’t got a pair but I’m a fan of Josef Seibel shoes.

Always comfortable well made shoes, imo.
I haven't come across this make before, thank you.
Some interesting styles and lovely colours 🙂

V3ra These are my latest red 'ugly shoe' purchase, not at all pretty, but comfortable and good for mucking round with dogs on walks.
Ooh they're a bit different Norah!
What make are they?
I'm on first name terms with the lady in our local Hotter outlet, much to my friend's amusement and my husband's despair 🤣
