Oh thank you.
Wilkinson that came from.
I've just put a candle bulb that flickers like a small fire in it.

It’s that time of year.
Who is looking to get rid of extraneous items and declutter their houses ready for winter and associated upcoming festivals?
I have two boxes of books waiting to be collected on Tuesday, and hope to add a few bags of clothing before they get here. My decorator is coming to do various bits and bobs, and I need to clear the decks ahead of that, which is my motivation for starting now.
I also need to clear out a huge kitchen cupboard which will become a walk-in larder if the carpenter ever gets back to me.
What’s on your declutter list? Record your successes and difficulties on this thread and support one another.
No lectures on why we shouldn’t need to declutter, please? We know
. Start another thread about people who are disorganised or who shouldn’t buy too much in the first place and we can choose not to engage with it. This one is for support, encouragement and celebration of clearing ‘stuff’ from our lives.
Oh thank you.

Well done. That's a lovely lamp!
The clutter isn’t from the decluttering, though. It’s been mounting up for years and I’m not sure how it happened. I daren’t have a visitors for that reason. That’s why I’ve set myself a target of inviting my sons family round for a meal and putting a Christmas tree up for the first time in years.
Well, you have to sometimes make a mess, short term, in order to create some order, long term.
Oh, thank goodness!
Mind you, it's not the best time of year to spread it all around.

I know how it feels though, when you wonder why the heck you didn't leave well alone, as you sit amongst the chaos.
Declutterer of the week award though, for you, again.
Your clutter is so interesting, though...

Great tips, Crosstitchfan.
Thank you!
You wouldn’t be if you saw the rooms. They really are like something out of one of those hoarder programmes.
Oh, MayBee
I'm a bit jealous of your progress, you've done so well
I'm at standstill again, and may be for a while, now.
That's why I wanted that (not very, as it turned out) handyman to be true to his word.
Spent another full day in the garden today. Really chuffed with what I’ve achieved. Patio has been scrubbed but it’s still covered in moss. Want to reduce the amount of pots I have and just have a few that have either winter or summer plants. Plenty of stuff to put in the brown bin and some for the black. Spare pots have been cleaned and stored away. My plastic bag bags have arrived to they are now hanging up in the kitchen instead of floating around in other plastic bags. Have ordered several pairs of Marigolds as I’ve only got cheaper versions that are rubbish. Have also ordered garden Marigolds which I didn’t know they made. Have got a couple of boxes of toys to go to a charity shop next week. Going to a second hand dress shop tomorrow to see if they can take any of my good unworn dresses. I’ve got some for the charity shop. A large unused picture frame that someone bought me is going to my picture framers; he sells ready made frames. It was too heavy for my walls and I didn’t have the means hang it safely. If he doesn’t want it I’ll take that to a charity shop. I’m so stiff I can’t move off the sofa; I might get some energy later on.
My daughter wants her son to have the piano one day but it’ll be a long time before he has a house of his own! I always thought my younger grandchildren would like to tinker with it but they don’t seem interested. My FIL had a Steinway but gave it away
. I think I’m going to pack in for the night and try to have an early start tomorrow.
You really need specialists in removals to move pianos.
Yes, buyer collects.
If you're serious about letting the piano go, then part of the conditions of selling it could be 'Buyer Collects'.
I’ve only really got one spare wall but it’s got a Kandinsky on it. My piano wall has the old family photos. I really need to get rid of the piano. It takes up far too much space and my daughter has her own now. That would make an ideal wall for all the pictures. Trouble is, moving pianos is not easy. Years ago my ex and a couple of others moved a piano down some stairs at a neighbours. No idea how they did it without hurting their backs.

Are your wall really full you can have them closer together with other pieces you love.
I have lots of masks from countries I’ve visited. I mix some of them with pictures.

I hate the way builders just use that squirty stuff to fill holes
Be afraid, be very afraid, MayBee, Mary Berry and Prue Leith got into trouble for saying something very similar.
I have no idea why

The walls and picture frame are the same colour 😄 and the picture rail and drop are white, honestly 😄
The picture was £1 in our charity shop.
That’s lovely. The wall colour looks so much darker on the picture frame. It gives a real depth to it; great idea. I’m currently having some pictures framed which is bonkers because I’ve already got lots that I don’t have room on the walls for. But they’ve been floating round the house for ages and are in danger of being damaged without a frame. Just put some of that insulation stuff behind a couple of radiators. I bought it ages ago but only put it behind the hall radiator. Now got to paint the recess wall in the bathroom before the blind is fitted. There are only a couple of areas that need touching up. Unlike the other rooms they did a very neat job replacing the bathroom window. Might just do a bodge job. I’m going to ask the odd job man to sort out the bedroom window and, if necessary, he could always take the new blind down and paint that one too. He’s a very good decorator and I might make a real mess of it. I hate the way builders just use that squirty stuff to fill holes; I prefer polyfilla.

Allira, thanks for the tip that some charity shops will take books now. I had to throw a box in the "non-recyclable waste" at the tip recently & they've been haunting me since. I love books, but our charity shops haven't taken them for ages. And we have 1000s, although personally I use the library rather than buying - they're everyone elses discards. I really don't have time to scan their barcodes on the online app.
This was the Red Cross but I'm not sure if it is a national scheme or just local.

I read that as MY dog 🤣🤣
So did I when I read it back
. Can we please have an edit button for Christmas, GN?
I do love that rug on the wall..

Valued at £2million on Antiques Road Show 😁
I get what someone means about getting new stuff, eg a new kitchen.^
I looked at some new ones in a showroom recently, and shuddered. Mostly all I could think of was, "all that work".
Oh heck!
