Second time woken up tonight, happens every night, wretched bladder! Going to have another go to enter the land of nod! Now 3.00 am!

They say it was quite normal in the 17th and 18th centuries for people to have a few hours awake and doing things, in the middle of the night. Perhaps we are all throwbacks !!!!

I don't have the bladder issues but I can't stay asleep for more than three hours even if I am exhausted. It must be wreaking havoc on my body and brain as sleep is essential to health. Do you think that 150 years ago our relatives had this same issue?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 27-Sept-24 08:22:22

I give in and take sleepeeze from Boot’s or similar from local pharmacy once a week.

I am struggling to function on three or four hours of sleep every night. I do not go online, as I think it’s a rabbit hole too far for me.

I do read my kindle, have it on very dim light, usually a book I have read before for a comfort read. Sometimes I doze off around 6am for an hour.

I don’t look at my phone when I get up at night, I just read and have a cup of tea, otherwise I would join you for a 3.00 chat x

Do come here in the early hours lemsip. We can start a wide-awake club 😊

Me too OP. But it helps to know I’m not alone. I fall asleep easily but then wake at 3am and can’t get back to sleep properly, I might snatch an hour filled with weird dreams but then I’m fully awake at 5am. I don’t get up, will meditate, read, listen to music…
Knowing I have my own schedule and don’t have to go to work helps. And I can nap during the day but usually I don’t feel tired. Have stopped beating myself up about it and tried to accept it’s part of the ageing process.

My routine for going to sleep involves writing a story in my head. Every night it's the same story which I try to improve, basically I bore myself to sleep!

That sounds like a good idea. I'll give it a go too.

Sara1954 Fri 27-Sept-24 06:04:54

CrazyH, why is it that things seem a hundred times worse at two o’clock in the morning?
And what bizarre stuff is in my head that when I do drop off, I have the weirdest dreams?

JamesandJon33 Fri 27-Sept-24 05:19:59

Me too. Been awake about an hour. Just mulling over a difficult day yesterday. Hoping today will be better.

grandMattie Fri 27-Sept-24 04:52:50

Night over an hour ago, drinking (decaf) coffee in bed.
I try to make use of early mornings by going through paperwork etc. but it is most annoying.

lemsip Fri 27-Sept-24 02:56:36

well here I am awake again., having a cup of tea. broken sleep.

Another insomniac here. Tonight a lot of negative nasty things of the past have raised their ugly heads. Some are very petty things like, d.I.l. Accusing my daughter and grandson of treating their house like they’re. Own home. Opening the fridge taking drinks or snacks without permission. Can’t you do that in your Uncle’s house.? They do it in my house,. I don’t see the problem of helping yourself to a drink or snack from the fridge.. Maybe I ‘m wrong, maybe I didn’t teach my daughter good manners. Old niggles are bothering me tonight. I don’t know why. I think there’s a party in son’s house on Saturday and I’m getting anxious. So can’t sleep. Thanks night owls for reading.. 🦉

I go to bed about midnight straight to sleep but wake at 3,30am and can't get back to sleep.

I shall come on here next time

The whole of my digestive system has had it in for me for a long time. It’s like I’ll say ‘I’m fine’ and my digestive system will say with a snarl ‘oh no you’re not!’.

I had a scan on my bladder 2 weeks ago, and was told it looked OK.

They ought to try sleeping with it!

Katyj Thu 26-Sept-24 10:46:42

Hi. For those of you up and down all night needing the loo, go see your GP. My dh was the same, thought it might have been his prostate, but after tests the dr said he had an overactive bladder.
He said too many people put up with this and think it’s just down to age. He now takes Solifencin and is so much better 🤞

Katcoffee Thu 26-Sept-24 09:42:01

If you sleep on your own try listening to sleep stories on the Calm app. Also I read if you name as many things as you can think of beginning with, for example, the letter B and then C and so on your brain will soon drift off. I haven’t yet got to the letter C

I like my coffee before bed - they say caffeine keeps you awake, but in my case, a hot cup of coffee actually sends me to sleep 😂

I think it’s important to fall asleep soon after drinking the caffeine. I saw a programme about how you can use caffeine to your advantage. Of course I’ve forgotten most of what they advised.

The trouble is, the more you empty your bladder, the worse it is, long term, for trying to last a bit longer without going.

Yep. That is true

Cressy Wed 25-Sept-24 22:39:23

When I worked I had no problems sleeping. When I retired I loved the idea that I no longer had to set an alarm so if I did wake up in the night, I would happily do a bit of scrolling or watch YouTube just because I could. The novelty has now worn off and I am trying to get back on track so I often resort to listening to Get Sleepy. 8 times out of ten I am asleep in a few minutes.

my bladder wakes me approx every 2 hours throughout the night, it is wonderful if I have a 3 hour sleep.. been to the docs several times over the years... no infection,, so nothing...

You sound like me “ over active bladder”, I would have loved it if I only had to get up once or twice to wee, but was between 5/10 a night- now have 6 monthly Botox injections in my bladder, now I get up twice, which is good for now. Hopefully get it down to 0 🙏

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 22:19:40

Well, so much for my healthier lifestyle.
I've never felt so grotty in my life! smile
