⚠️ Suicide pods - warning ‼️

If I had advanced dementia I would think that was a good way to go for me. Sadly I would need to be with it enough to press the button.

You’re supposed to sleep then die in the pod, or so I read so it does sound peaceful.
Palliative care varies enormously and in hospitals can feel like being ignored while the healthy bustle about and ignore your needs just waiting for you to die..A relative told me that.
I firmly believe we should be able to choose to die when all hope of recovery is gone.

I thought with holding food and drink was stopped some years back wasn’t it ?

I don’t think it’s as pleasant as you think TheWeirdo it takes up to 9 minutes to kill you I would hate to be in that box thingy I think I d just automatically jump out
I m not into legal killing personally and as for these pods I think they sound awful it’s equivalent of climbing into your own coffin I m not religious but I do think killing yourself is not our right

Agree totally watching close family die- Ilovedogs22 and Allira my mom looked like she had been starved - she had shrunk to skeleton but her mind was still there and for religious reasons, she would not accept morphine drips as believed she was hastening her death and would not be Allowed in the Garden of Eden…. -she told nursing staff who were so caring that The Lord died for us and he never asked for pain relief- nurses said she was so stoic but at time of death, I wanted her morphine.. it was a gruesome end - can’t write what happened immediately before as it’s scared me
So maybe a pod in a calm place is ??

crazyH, I have to disagree about palliative care being great! End of life-care often just consists of slowly being denied both food & liquids. It's simply immoral, we don't let our animals die like this. 🤔

Palliative care varies enormously and yes, how cruel is it to deny someone liquids just to hasten their death. Far better for medical staff t be allowed to help them on their way painlessly, with their prior consent and that of their family.

Watching someone in agony at the end of their life is a painful experience.

Hear,hear Missinterpretive, my glorious, plump grandmother looked like a poor concentration camp victim the last time with saw her! We thought palliative care was actual care but it's legalised murder. Horrific state of affairs. 😡

Palliative care isn’t that easy to access in many areas, nor are hospices able to cope with just charity donations.
I don’t know about these pods but likBellasnana, dying painlessly in my own bed woukd be my first choice, if not I think we should all have choice about where, when and how we end our lives.

Bea65 so sorry to hear about your brother's illnesses. I can quite understand him wanting a painless quick ending to his life.

I completely agree. A painless, reliable end should be available for anyone who has suffered enough.

Whilst I’m all for having the right to choose one’s own end, I personally would not like to get into one of those pods. Too claustrophobic! I know that sounds daft when contemplating one’s suicide, but I’d prefer a peaceful end in my own bed.

I agree, Ilovedogs. There are times when palliative care leaves quite a lot to be desired.

Sincere sympathy to him and you Bea I honestly cannot say as a theoretical option I don't know that you can unless personally affected. It just made me feel a chill up my spine when I saw the picture.

Thank you 🙏 yes it is a bit chilling but if you’re only existing and not living….my brother has been in this situation for some time and he doesn’t even want visitors’ ‘gawping at him ‘ it’s a tough decision but I’ve told my daughter that I wouldn’t want to exist like her uncle/godfather… challenging circumstances 🥲

I disagree. I think we should all have the right to die with dignity if and when we feel the time has come. Yes, palliative care has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, but there's only so much it can do - and after watching my mother and MiL die long, slow lingering deaths from dementia, there's no way I would want to go the same way. We don't let our beloved pets linger on when they are suffering, so why should humans have to?

Tbh I sat on the fence with regard to assisted dying but after hearing Esther Rantzen and seeing close friends and relatives go though the final stages of cancer/terminal illnesses I have opened my mind to the benefits to the sufferer for whom there is no hope and only further pain and indignity.
My only concern is that suicide pods etc could be forced upon elderly relatives whose family members are tired of caring for them, am not saying they would be manhandled into a pod, but families can be very persuasive.

Apparently you press an internal button, you go unconscious then die all within a few minutes.

That's exactly how I'd want to go!
