I think this depends on how your mum copes after the surgery. My mum had the same surgery in her eighties is an independent person and recovered quickly, I would go in and she would be completing her exercises ,as mum wanted to get back to her bingo in her sheltered accommodation. I do hope her recovery is as quick. As you have such a lot going on in your life would an independent carer help mum a couple of days a week to give you a break. It would mean paying for it but it may save you from being exhausted also mum might be more prepared to complete excercise if it’s not a family member.

I do have a DH,but he's 9 years older than me. I was 75 when I had a knee replacement last November. As he has various health problems, I went to DDs for two weeks post operation. I coped at home after that. They prefer you to have stairs as this can help with recovery.

My mum is 76 and pretty restricted by oa in her hips, backs and knees. She had a partial knee replacement 5 years ago, and struggled to come back from this, feeling low and in pain for many weeks afterwards.

She lives alone so I'm going to have to be her main carer. Just wandering how long I should be prepared to care for her (bit worried about her resilience and coping with caring for her and managing my full time job and neurodiverse teenage daughter. My husband will help with our daughter luckily).
