I'm so weary of economising with food. It was some sort of sausage and pasta bake with fennel seeds. Yes, it was cheap. Yes, there was an awful lot of it. Yes it will "do us" a few times.

Think I'd rather have soup and scrambled egg.

This made me laugh eggplant - because this is a favourite meal on our house (we don’t use a recipe, but assume it is much the same). The only addition that we make that improves it imho, is fried cubes of…..eggplant 😂

Fennel tea is delish and relaxing. Just sweeten it

Our family have all of his cook books, and many of his recipes are firm family favourites.

Just because it wasn't to your taste doesn't mean many others won't love it. Meals my husband loves, I have found horrible and vice versa

I’d leave out the fennel seeds too, because a) I’d have to go and buy some, and b) because fennel is the one and only vegetable I really dislike, so if they taste anything like that….

Fennel definitely isn't for everyone but I like it in a white sauce. First had it in a restaurant when other vegetables on the menu had run out so I gave it a try. Sadly none of my family are fans so I rarely had it until everyone moved out. Living on my own I can eat whatever I like most of the time. It's not cheap though, but often comes up on my Nectar offers as I always buy it when on offer, as long as they have a small one.

There was actually a recipe for banana skin curry in our local newspaper magazine at the weekend. It doesn’t appeal to me.

I hate fish but Jamie’s Fabulous Fish Pie is one of my absolute favourite things.

I had been quite impressed with some of his recipes. The one that caught my attention recently was his curry with pumpkin. Though not a grand fan of the squash / pumpkin family, my husband enjoys "calabaza" with is a member of the squash family and very popular in Latin America and also Northern Africa from where it had originated.

I purchase it frozen as it is a big job and time is of essence when working.

I also received his Mediterranean Cookbook as a gift from a Scottish friend who lives in Valencia. There were quite a few authentic vegetarian pasta dishes that I had prepared from time to time.

Each chef has their specialties and talents .. And there are quite a few exceptional recipes in his numerous books.

My favourite Jamie recipe is his sausage, apple and parsnip tray bake. I always watch his shows but rarely cook from them.

Someone gave me a recipe for quick sausage bolognaise years ago (it’s on the BBC Good Food website). It uses fennel seed in about a teaspoonful and has a subtle aniseed taste. It is dead easy to make and every time I make it I get really positive feedback and requests for the recipe. If Jamie Oliver’s recipe is anything like, it’s scrumptious.

This is really interesting.
I can't imagine not liking fennel yet seems to be one of those Marmite-type flavours, like coriander, which completely triggers other people. Personally I literally crave fennel on some days, and also liquorice which to me has a similar flavour. As for Ricard or pastis....it's not allowed in the house as I'd neck the whole bottle!

It was from his 7 ways book.Its a nice idea, 7 ingredients, keep things simple. Probably I just made a mess of it!

I recently made his version of squash in cheesy sauce and blackberry and apple cobbler. Both were absolutely delicious as many of his recipes have been a nice change and a bit different. I have never been disappointed I have always enjoyed his books and cookery programmes.

I don’t see anything “hideous” about it and if it encourages anybody to cook something original, healthy, tasty and not pricey - what’s not to like?
Jamie is regularly spot on with his recipes and I’d rather try them than the sort of cheffy rubbish peddled on the likes of Masterchef.
His Fish Pie has become a classic with us and his Sour Cherry and Frangipane tart which I made recently for a big family lunch was amazing.
Time enough for scrambled eggs for brunch!

I'm a bung-it cook but find him rather annoying.

I like his son though!
