I don't think this problem will be solved until family court judges start to actually listen to mothers, and not assume that they are just being awkward when they don't want these men to be given the opportunity to hurt their children. These abusive men can be very persuasive and the judges just get taken it by them. More training would help, I think.
I agree but I also think that Cafcass social workers need to review their practice...
In this case, the worker noted that she wanted extra support when seeing the Father in future. As their poor Mum stated “If that Cafcass officer couldn’t handle seeing him alone, how the hell did she think a nine- and 12-year-old would? She had the power to overrule the contact order there and then”
A colleague of mine recently spoke with someone who has an ex-partner, the violence he exhibited was dreadful, to both her and on occasions to their child - all recorded including hospital treatment etc and he's been allowed unsupervised access to their child.
While I understand the need for confidentiality etc, I do think there must also be accountability.
