Unexpected lovely moment

Am still not feeling great after nasty long cold but today brightened up immeasurably. Walking along the road, I saw a man with an enormous dog. It was huge, furry and gorgeous. While the dog stopped to sniff a lamp post I said, 'What a lovely dog. Is it a Pyrenean?'. The man agreed and asked if I would pat it. Would I?! While I was having a terrific cuddle with the very friendly creature the man explained that the dog really, really enjoyed being patted and fussed and sometimes collapsed with disappointment if nobody came along and did it. It's his mother's dog and he likes ladies.
Just an unexpected encounter that really cheered me up.
Any of you experience unexpected little moments in life?

Our flat overlooks the playground of a local school. Often crocodiles of nursery children go past. I always wave and can usually count on several responses even though we're up on the 4th floor. On one golden occasion all of them and the teacher waved back!

At least it was the opposite side!

Aw🥰. that's a lovely one.

On my phone your post preview read 'On the opposite side of the road was a crocodile. . .' so I'm very pleased to see it ended happily grin.

On the opposite side of the road there was a crocodile of small 5-6 year olds walking in pairs behind their teacher going back to school.

One of them looked very much like one of my grandsons when he was that age and as I walked along I was smiling. The boy caught my eye and smiled back, then as he carried on walking he turned and waved at me.

Of course I waved back, we were both grinning. I have no idea who he was and he didn't know me...but it was a lovely moment.

A little girl in the nursery where I work said to me “ aw your going home but will you be coming back tomorrow? When I said yes she threw out her arms and said” give me a hug till tomorrow “ nice to know I was missed!

My 2 DGSs couldn't be more different. Once when out for a walk we saw a giant Newfoundland dog coming towards us. Eldest DGS ran happily up to it and had a lovely pat and cuddle (after asking the owner of course) the other DGS ran away and jumped up on to a bench in fear. Hard to believe they were from the same family. All fine now. They both love cats and have two.

I used to look after 2 little girls. Picked them up after school with mine. One of the girls was petrified of dogs. We had 3 at the time. So I'd shut them in the kitchen when she was here.

One day I thought I'd try to help her get over this fear. We had a greyhound, lurcher and Jack Russell. So my soppy greyhound came to the rescue. Such a gentle dog. Slowly but surely she started to pat him.

Long story cut short, she eventually was happy to have all 3 dogs pottering around.

This child is now 35 and married with children ... and 2 dogs.

She's always thanking me for allowing her to not be fearful and to love dogs

A long time ago but one of my son's was very scared of dogs after 2 charged at him barking. A dog walker saw him scared and stopped for a long time chatting and encouraging and really helped my son overcome his fear

It's OK wheniwasyourage I know some perfectly nice people who don't like or are scared of dogs. I don't understand them either!

Sorry, but I can’t imagine ever being happy to cuddle a dog! (Puts on tin hat!)

Wonderful! 😃 my dog's a diva too & he's an old sheepdog! He goes up to everyone to introduce himself & whines if we don't let him. He even blatently pursues people with the intention of getting a bit of a fuss!!!!! 😃

Allies
Walking round the supermarket today, a little child ( an Afghan refugee) was singing and skipping along. I smiled at him and he stopped and gave me a lovely smile back.
I was so glad he was living here in safety.

That must have been so heartwarming Allira 🩵

A few days ago a crow was drinking from a puddle of water. Not wishing to disturb it, I took a wide berth, but, being hesitant, the crow jumped back about 5 feet and looked at me. I carried on walking and, 50 feet later turned around to see it carrying on with its drink. Such a small pleasure from an everyday bird.

crows are remarkably intelligent.. I also love seeing seagulls stamping on the grass in my local park (apparently to attract worms)

What a lovely uplifting thread,,, 🤗

My lovely moment was the pure joy of seeing my older dog looking happier today & trying to steal the bird's bread . 😊

merlotgran I expect that that dog has looked like a cuddly teddy it's whole life and people have always wanted to cuddle him. I have a delightful cat who, every now and then, just has to jump up on my knee for a long cuddle. He wakes up, miaows and runs at me no matter what I'm doing. After a while he has had enough and jumps down.
Loved the stories of the deer, the owl and the badger as well as nice human meetings.

I have arthritis which makes bending down almost impossible. Walking through our local park a young man very politely told me my shoe lace was undone. I struggled to bend but he said he would do it as he often had to do it for his gran!

That dog’s a bit weird if you ask me.

We were in a lovely little cafe in Bath a couple of days ago where an older woman, very well dressed and rather chic was having afternoon tea, we got into conversation with her and discovered that she had lost her husband three years before and that her son had given her the voucher for afternoon tea in good faith but that she really hated eating alone, indeed she had invited a friend to come along and help her finish the afternoon tea because she knew it would be far too much for her, but he friend became poorly at the last minute. We sympathised and the woman suddenly asked if we’d mind joining her, so we did, and had a really nice time, we ordered more tea and sandwiches but she insisted upon us helping her clear the cakes and scones.
She was so thankful that we had joined her and taken time out to make sure her afternoon tea was enjoyable, but for us it was a real pleasure as well.
Meeting this charming lady was an unexpected lovely moment.

A fellow dog walker told me she was worried at not having seen the resident barn owl recently. Later, as was walking DD2’s dog, the owl suddenly flew overhead, totally oblivious of me, hovered around for a while, then dived into the grass, not 20ft ahead, grabbed a vole in one talon and flew off to a nearby tree to consume it.
I stood there like a kid seeing Santa - just saying wow!

gentleshores Fri 04-Oct-24 19:14:06

It sounds a lovely moment! They are very furry indeed :-)

The Pyranean was enormous. When he snuggled into me he nearly pushed me over. The young man was saying how difficult it was if he did one of his sad collapses as he couldn't get him back up very easily. I nearly gave him my number for emergency cuddles!
