My sister had one white lock. So did Mrs Ghandi and the Russian Perestroika leader Mikhail Gorbachov (he must be turning in his grave seeing how Russia has slipped back into dictatorship, after all he did to open it to the world)

Have you read Gorbachov's very well written book "Perestroika", M0nica? There was an excellent, but poignant TV documentary about his life and exile a few years ago too.

A friend of mine had ver dark hair with a white steak at the front. She had three daughters with the same coloured hair.

... that's interesting! smile

I wonder, how did the daughters feel about their ready-made 'highlight'?

I never did know, all she said was my daughters have my hair!

Bea65, please do not stop posting and commenting. I too find the level of vitriol from some posters on here make me want to keep a low profile, but most are not like that 💐💐💐💐💐💐

I saw a headline on a Facebook article a few days ago that Princess Beatrice had miscarried.
How malicious and upsetting.
As for how many times the PoW is expecting a fourth child…..

Sorry, pinkprincess, but I did have a childish giggle at the white steak.

My mother had a very dramatic Mallen streak as well, just when that Catherine Cookson series was on TV. Sadly I didn’t inherit it.

A cousin of mine was born with very red hair. Nothing out of the ordinary in that family.

What puzzled everyone was that on his crown, he had a fairly large tuft of very blond hair quite separate from the red.

Unfortunately, as he grew, the distinction caused people to insinuate that his mother had dyed it deliberately. This was in the late 40s early 50s.

The blond bit darkened slightly as he grew older, but still stood out sufficiently for people to make comments, which must have been irritating.

It's very unusual - referred to as genetic mosaicism.

Of course now, no-one would bat an eyelid. Many young people have 'mosaic' hair.

As red hair is a recessive gene, it can be carried down several, even many , generations without expressing itself because the person carrying it in each generation marries someone who does not carry the recessive gene. but does pass it on to their children.

Doesn't a red-headed child have to get one red gene from each parent though? I think I remember correctly that Queen Mary was a red-head?

Yes. So Queen Mary passed down the redhair gene which was recessive as did Princess Diana.

I was upset to read this’ news and yes had heard the rumours before some time ago - I merely just wanted any confirmation that some other GNs had seen it tooo… now I must have typed the wrong word - gossip- and am truly blindsided by the vicious comments that I’m vile and evil

And so would I have been, in your place, but I am sure you have realised that those came rom a small minority of GN members. Most of us were surprised by your post because these two stories have been doing the rounds for years and are known to be myths.

But I agree there is no cause for people to be nasty.

Oh for the days when the term “news alerts” would refer to actual important things actually happening, not salacious tittle tattle spread by muckrakers.

Then again, thank goodness they have the royals to gossip about. On other threads our PM is being likened to a Communist dictator. That sort of utter drivel is infinitely more dangerous.

It was H who told the world that he unlike other male members of his family married for love

I think he actually made a rather ambiguous comment ( doesn’t he always leave room for a get out?), saying that there was a temptation, particularly for males in the family, to marry someone who fits the mould, rather than the person they were meant to be with.
So, just like Papa and Camilla then?

The newspapers seem to have a wee junior trawling through Harry’s book and the Netflix documentary to find stuff they can print with yet another ‘sensational’ headline, trying to imply it’s a current story!

The red hair comes from the Spencer family. Have a look at this portrait of his great great great grandfather pinterest.com/pin/395050198539679592/.

The only royal scandal tale that might have credibility is the Harry is not Charles’s son, but I’m sure any official investigation would have given the required result.
Those involving William and Catherine are just spiteful lies

Harry was born before that affair began, I think she ( Diana) went off Charles because of a remark about “ Harry’s red hair being a Spencer trade mark “ the affair began three yrs later.
I think Harry has all King Charles characteristics- absolutely Charles son

Confirmed bachelors usually marry when their sexual and pulling powers are beginning to wane. eg Warren Beatty - and George Clooney

Obviously not in the case of George Clooney, his wife is both gorgeous and highly intelligent

In this case and probably others, the art, and a womaniser is very knowledgeable in the art, is to pull a high class permanent partner when you are just on the cusp of starting to lose your pulling power.

Or he could have simply met a woman he was crazy about and she fell for him, too. It does happen.

Confirmed bachelor was a term used years ago for gay men when same-sex relationships were illegal.

George Clooney had been married before and had a string of relationships with beautiful women.
I would say he was a commitment-phobe until he met Amal.

M0nica Sun 06-Oct-24 19:42:40

Dickens I still think it is a state of mind that tells them, albeit subliminally that now is the time to settle down, which engenders a mind set to fall in love with someone and want a permanent relationship, and, in almost every case, children.

It is what Warren Beatty did, and now George Clooney, and others.

Why read newspapers that write this . They are lies that prey to the vulnerable. Keep to the newspapers that don’t print malicious gossip.

I'm guessing quite a few people who read more sober news outlets also dip in and out of the tabloids - for one reason or another. Anyway, it's as well to actually see this stuff with your own eyes occasionally.

But I think the worst offenders are X, YouTube and TikTok - far worse than the newspapers for malicious gossip and the deliberate instigation of lies.

I can't see it improving any time soon in spite of the pleas of high-profile individuals for these kinds of sites to act more responsibly about their content and what they allow. Artificial Intelligence, according to my teenage grandson, is going to enable the spreading of fake news to an alarming degree.
