Hi all
My Dd will be 40. She's not well off so money I'm thinking. But how much is the going rate these days ? Some of her friends have been gifted expensive holidays! Crazy times!confused
Any ideas gratefully received
Thanks In Advance

Surely it’s going to depend on what you can afford and want to give her?

£40 for 40 years?

Gran32 Sat 12-Oct-24 09:35:28

Witzend, if only it were that simple. What I can afford and what is reasonable are 2 different things, I think. That's why I'm asking ...

£40 for 40 years?

Just what I was going to suggest.

Calendargirl Sat 12-Oct-24 09:37:58

What do you normally give her? If you normally spend say, £20, then my suggestion above seems reasonable for a milestone birthday.

Never mind what others give, it’s up to you. Are you implying your DD expects more than you can afford to give her?

No, only that I know what some of her friends have received and don't want to look stingy😅 I'm thinking £400 tbh.

£40 I would say but if your rich£400. We aren’t!

Gran32 Sat 12-Oct-24 09:46:12

We're not rich but do give them £200 for birthdays. Although we are thinking of cutting down as we are both retired so the savings are depleting and pensions won't last forever

Gran32 £400 sounds about right, acknowledging her age in the number, I’m sure she’ll appreciate that.

I have just posted on a duplicate thread, before I saw this.

But we don't know your circumstances.
