Don't say its only a little spider. Was in a swimming pool once and all the women ran out screaming. Two girls on reception and one said to the other catch it in a cup from the vending machine. Girl came back and said it was too big to fit in the cup

A couple of years ago, I pulled back my duvet to get into bed and a bloody great spider came galloping up and disappeared down the back of the headboard
Since then, I never get into bed unless I’ve checked my pillows lifted up the duvet and had a good look at the ceiling .
I don’t think they would be so scary to me if they ambled along, but they don’t,they move as though they’re jet propelled 😵‍💫😬

This happened to me twice in one week. I managed to kill the spiders with my shoe but they were 2/3 inches in size. Each time I had to sleep downstairs as even though I got the blighters I could not face the bed in case there were more. The next morning after each event I changed all the bedding and hoovered all round the bed and the second time I even moved the bed as far as I was able to hoover underneath and flipped the mattresses.
For many years I have always pulled back covers & pillows, checked around the bed etc before getting in, a real phobia, so wish I could stop this.

Little “Money Spiders” where did that myth come from?, even now I have special regard for them and never brush them away

I pick them up to put outside, MrJ isn’t a fan, so it’s down to me.

A spider catcher, a little plastic box with a sliding door on a very long stick.

Brilliant, every home should have one.

No shortage of spiders, look at your lawn or a field on a dewey morning it’s a mass of spiders webs, there must be millions of them. In the house we had a terrier that would catch them, it caused quite a commotion if she saw one.

Yes, don't worry folks, the spiders are all in our garden and conservatory.

Helping my sister unload some carpet underlay she'd stored in the loft a large spider crawled out. Sister doesn't like them so I picked it up carefully to put it outside. It bit my finger 3 times, felt like a wasp sting. Didn't even know they could bite but I was OK. Finger only hurt for a few minutes, went red, then skin thickened and peeled over the next week or so. No scarring or ill effects.
Now I either vaccum them up, catch with a glass and card, or stamp on them. Never picked one up to put outside since.

"Jaws too weak to bite humans..." Suddenly I'm picturing a macho spider in the corner of my bedroom practising the equivalent of press-ups on its jaws. I keep a plastic cup and piece of card in every bedroom and bathroom but it takes all my courage to scoop them up and get them out of the window. My phobia got worse after a holiday in Namibia when we were told to check our shoes every morning before putting them on to make sure that there wasn't a scorpion in them. I hid my shoes in my rucksack...

Camlyn the false widows do bite. Two years running I was bitten while working in the garden. Doctor then said it was a false widow & showed me what the previous patient had taken in that did bite him. A false widow! I do kill them now as it is ‘them or me’! I totally hate the huge ugly ones with big hairy legs that lay in wait for me then run at me! So have gadgets plugged in & if one gets by them two spider catchers in each room to catch them then evict them! Hate killing them as my DGM always said ‘if you wish to live & thrive let a spider run alive’ so I do as long as it is outside well away from me! I know I am a huge coward but glad I am not the only one!

they scare the sh*t out of me, always been terrified since a young child. Even pictures on screen or in magazines is enough. Dont like people to kill them, as that is unfair, but hubby puts them out. The ones this year have been big enough to hear them as they ran across the floor.
Remember once pulling the sun visor down on the car, yes I was driving, and one dropped in front of me. Luckily for my daughter and grandson who were also in the car I was doing approx 5 miles an hour on a farm road going home, as I evacuated the car without even stopping it. I am afraid the instinctive reaction would have been the same had I been doing 60 down the bypass.
I was bitten by one about 10 years ago, had been out walking a country walk. Thumb was itch when I got back to the car, but time we got home and hour later my whole arm was so swollen I thought the skin was going to burst. Ended up in A&E for antibiotics and more antihistamines. You could see the fang marks, but no idea how it got to bite me.

I am terrified of spiders. When I was staying in a rented apartment in Australia there was one as big as my hand on the wall near my bed. We left ASAP and it has put me off ever going to Australia again although apart from that I loved the country.

"The only ones that bite in this country have jaws too weak to bite humans"
Are you absolutely sure🥶?

henetha

I try always to catch them and take them for a walk. But they seem to be getting larger lately and some are too big for my spider catching device.
I don't have a phobia about them, but don't want them actually ON me .smile

You could be writing this on behalf of myself henetha.
I’m also finding them too big to fit into my spider catcher. I’ve no fear of them but my daughter is petrified and to be honest that’s the only reason I evict them.

Although she’s much better now I can still remember the blood curdling screams of hers when she saw one. It would be mammy to the rescue once again. She’s getting better now though and will even pick the tiny ones up in the catcher to take out.

I really really do feel sorry for anyone with that phobia. It must be hell on earth, forever scanning the walls and ceiling for any signs of them. Heaven knows some of them are so big these days they even make ME do a double take.

I shared my bath with a spider once, he must have been hiding behind a bottle on the side of the bath and fell in. As I was drying myself, I saw something black floating in the water, put my glasses on (I'm very short-sighted) and there he was disappearing down the plughole smile

I'm absolutely terrified of ALL spids and their webs, real, plastic, soft toy whatever. It's one of the reasons I hate Halloween!

Late wrestler Yokozuna was 6'4 and weighed 42 stone and you know what? He was arachnophobic too! This man mountain would literally run out of a room if he saw even the tiniest of ones! I totally understand why!

I like them. They are fascinating if you watch them spinning their webs. They are amazing creatures. Please don’t kill them. They are part of the ecosystem which is in trouble.

This…🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️

I don’t mind them. I found one in my bath. I just coaxed it onto a piece of paper and threw it out of the window, paper and all 😂

I won’t kill one either, but if I can’t find it, I’ll sometimes sleep on the couch….😳
I am very short sighted and before I had my cataract done once I took my glasses off I couldn’t.of seen a spider if it was 6 inches from my nose, however now……

It's the time of year when they come in- in our house they are called 'Fred'. They eat lots of other critters and do a great job. If really necessary, it is 'upside down glass over and a piece of card, and gently out into garden.

Are they all called Fred?

My MIL had one that lived under her TV and came out each evening, he was called Fred too.
Some must be Freda.

The only ones that bite in this country have jaws too weak to bite humans.

We've had a couple of big ones in the kitchen just the past couple of weeks - both times, the dog has calmly whacked them with a paw then eaten them! And I'm afraid if I get to them, then they get the same treatment as any other home invader would - and it ain't pretty!

Spent the whole night awake a few nights ago watching a very big spider march around the top of the bedroom walls and across the ceiling. He may be the same one we ejected about this time last year, or his brother. He runs very fast and one time I tried to catch him with a jar he jumped over the jar, ran down my arm, down onto the floor and away.

Eventually I decided to get the spider-catcher (big jar and cardboard) and when I turned back he was on the bed and disappearing under the duvet. Took a while and lots of threats but I did finally catch him and eject him to the garden. He was bigger than the palm of my hand. Then spent most of the day sleeping.
