I love dogs and own one. I wouldnt like that and wouldnt want to see him.again.

Coolgran65 Tue 15-Oct-24 20:15:14

I don't think it's odd. Gives them something to talk about. Keeps.the first meeting light.

These days first dates are often walks (DD2 26 has been on several recently) - so I don't think making it a dog friendly walk is that odd.

I love dogs well I love all animals. But on a first date Nah, after few dates yes. Oh by the way would you like to meet my dog! Yeh great!

Lucyd Tue 15-Oct-24 19:51:51

I love dogs so I would be really happy if a chap suggested that but for some it would be a no no. If your daughter is a dog lover I don't see that it is a problem.

Or is so ‘in lurve’ with his dog he can’t bear to leave it alone
There’s a time and place

charley68 Tue 15-Oct-24 19:42:50

I don't think it is odd. A good idea really, I mean the dog has to accommodate a potential new person too.

Gwyllt Tue 15-Oct-24 19:40:13

Perhaps the guy only wants to date someone who like dogs Or has had problems with girl friends and his dog previously

dogsmother Tue 15-Oct-24 19:35:05

I wouldn’t be a bit concerned, at their age they will have been in cyber contact before a meeting. I don’t think it’s odd.

Wheniwasyourage Tue 15-Oct-24 18:48:54

If she doesn’t like dogs, she’s being warned. If she does like them, she’s getting information!

BlueBelle Tue 15-Oct-24 18:43:08

Odd to me I d not like a new date to bring a pet ‘anything’ along 🤣🤣🤣 I d say he’s over invested in this pet
I cant believe how some people can’t move without their pet would put me off before we started

kittylester Tue 15-Oct-24 18:38:31

Sounds lovely.

petra Tue 15-Oct-24 18:35:37

He might be a psycho and wants to look like Mr nice guy/ normal 😂

Delila Tue 15-Oct-24 18:24:03

I think that sounds like a good start, possibly a reassuring gesture?

Kate1949 Tue 15-Oct-24 18:15:34

I think it's extremely odd.

MissAdventure Tue 15-Oct-24 18:14:25

Unless it's a chihuahua called princess FooFoo and wears pink tutus... (or is a crotch sniffer)

MissAdventure Tue 15-Oct-24 18:10:40

I'd quite like that, because it seems it'll be a casual meet up.
To me, that's the ideal first meeting with someone new.
Plus, I couldn't date someone who didnt like animals.

fancythat Tue 15-Oct-24 18:06:16

I dont think it is odd, either.

Dinahmo Tue 15-Oct-24 18:04:20

Taking a dog along on a first date - I assume this means a drink or a meal - can help break the ice.

It's fairly common knowledge that dog owners, if on a walk, will stop and talk to other owners.

In the dim and distant past when I rattled a charity tin, I took my dog and people would often come and talk to her. They wouldn't necessarily put money in the however.

If he's a nice man I hope that your daughter likes dogs.

At the moment I'm receiving aftercare following an op. A nurse comes in once a day and my dog Zelie is always interested in them and often gets in the way. They usually have a dog or cat or both and it gives us something to talk about.

Babs03 Tue 15-Oct-24 17:57:33

Perhaps is a young or nervous dog that doesn’t like being left alone. Or perhaps he feels nervous and the dog will be there as a prop. Either way I don’t suppose she will find out until she meets him. Do keep us posted would be nice to know how the man and his dog did on the first date 🙃

OldFrill Tue 15-Oct-24 17:53:41

Assuming DD likes dogs l don't see it's odd at all. "First dates" tend to be a meet and greet (and often a fast retreat), so provided it's a public place etc all should be fine. I'd probably be far more excited about meeting the dog than the chap.

Georgesgran Tue 15-Oct-24 17:49:36

I suppose there’s only one way to find out. Hope it goes well for her.

Luckygirl3 Tue 15-Oct-24 17:49:09

This is very very odd indeed.

Biscuitmuncher Tue 15-Oct-24 17:47:31

A bit of a funny one, DD is going on a first date. She's mid 20s he's 30 and he wants to go somewhere dog friendly so he can bring his dog! She's not sure if this is a bit odd
