Hi everyone do you use your washing machine every day.

Mojack26 Thu 17-Oct-24 13:54:03

No why? Twice a week

Ive still got an airing cupboard. The water tank is on one side, shelving on the other and the gap in front and between is big enough to take my clothes airer, so I can load that up and close the door, leaving laundry to dry out of sight. I iron it downstairs in my utility room, which has direct access to outside.

We've an airing cupboard, with water cylinder, in the utility room. Next cupboard encloses the washer and dryer. All behind cupboard doors.

I dry dog towels/bedding, dog walk clothing, my husband's filthy work clothing in the ac - I tumble dry most other laundry.

The utility room is vented out and has outside access.

Most days unless lashing rain as I prefer to linedry outdoors. So usually every day and sometimes twice. I divide laundry into coloureds and whites and use non bio powders to suit softwater area.

Two adults, every day.

DH is a golfer and grandchildren often visit, so there is always washing on!

I have done two today, the sun is shining.

SparklyGrandma Thu 17-Oct-24 13:30:37

3-4 times a week here. I only use the tumble drier for towels, bedding and underwear. Sometimes when I have been unwell - I have to then use my washing machine everyday for a while to catch up.
I too bought a large drummed washing machine when the last one gave up, - I can even get a double duvet into it.

Polwal Thu 17-Oct-24 13:29:39

Yes

Mollygo Thu 17-Oct-24 13:22:43

Twice a week clothes and pillowcases -one light wash , one dark wash. Extra when it’s bedding or towels or dog stuff week.

Desdemona Thu 17-Oct-24 13:19:37

For 3 of us the machine is on about 4 times a week.

Harmonypuss Thu 17-Oct-24 13:15:08

Only me, so once every 10 days approx.

mabon1 Thu 17-Oct-24 13:12:43

I live alone, twice a week at most, usually once. Whites one week, coloured the next.

Katyj Thu 17-Oct-24 06:43:39

Granny gravy I’m with you, two of us washer on almost everyday, if I miss a day I find I have two loads the next day. Think I must enjoy it 🤣 I like to wash cushion covers and throws regularly.
The bedding gets done every week, the mattress and pillow protectors every two weeks

Tuaim Thu 17-Oct-24 06:25:54

I've got a lovely 15 minute cycle on my machine and use that for all the lighter stuff. I have one wash a week at 90 for all cloths, towels, tea towels etc. Bed linen goes in at 60 once a week.

GrannyIvy Thu 17-Oct-24 06:07:08

2 adults and my washing machine is on most days. I washed our winter coats yesterday, two loads and another coat load today! Bedding once a week, towels are changed every 3 or 4 days.

BlueBelle Thu 17-Oct-24 05:27:00

Live alone, wash when I ve got a load, usually about once a week I guess, never count to be honest When my washing clothes tub in my bedroom is full I put a wash on never checked the day or how often !

My washing machine is on about twice a week . I live alone.

crazyH Thu 17-Oct-24 01:36:47

Yes - my airing cupboard is still an airing cupboard - instead of a boiler, I have a small radiator in there, and shelves, for the almost dry clothes .

gentleshores Thu 17-Oct-24 01:13:28

Something else. My Grandmother used to call the airing cupboard the Cubilo cupboard. I never knew why and have never heard of anyone else calling it that! Any ideas why it was called that?

Mr Gravy will be soaked through, grannygravy!!
I couldn't believe how loud the rain was, let alone this thunder.

I am ok with thunder, but I am rather a scaredy cat when it comes to lightning.

I think it goes back to staying with my maternal granny, as soon as there was a storm she headed for the cupboard under the stairs insisting I went with her. I guess it was due to her living through the blitz.

Oh goodness I remember that too, as a child. I think we were told you were less likely to get struck by lightning? No storms here - maybe they're on the way ............

@Monica - that sounds like a nice organised utility room and has reminded me of a big bugbear of mine - something I have wanted for a long time - an airing cupboard!

Life has never been the same since living places without an airing cupboard and a pantry in my book. If I could design my dream home it would have a large pantry - less cupboards in the kitchen (less bending) and a large airing cupboard!

In their last house, My Mother actually created an airing cupboard. The house had been built with a large boiler cupboard on the landing and they got rid of the hot water tank to have a combi boiler downstairs, my Father put lots of those airing cupboard shelves in and they had a small radiator put in there. It was perfect.

My heated drying rack is basically my airing cupboard but it's a bit of an eyesore even though in a spare room and not as effective.

Anyone else still have an airing cupboard?

henetha Wed 16-Oct-24 23:35:50

There's only me so just once or twice a week. I'm trying to be careful with Earth's resources.

Allira Wed 16-Oct-24 22:24:56

Darks, lights, coloureds (on a low temperature, bedding, towels.

I did the outdoor cushion covers, parasol separately last week and they're now stored until next year.

Items such as cushion covers etc are done occasionally on separate days. I just bought new cushions so they should be ok for a while!

MissInterpreted Wed 16-Oct-24 21:41:50

I'm obviously just a clarty cow! I wear the same stuff several days in a row.

Chardy Wed 16-Oct-24 21:38:49

It used to be a family joke how often I used my machine, but the last time energy prices shot up, my resolution was to reduce it to a half, and not to use hot washes.

So currently I try only do 2 dark washes a week. I only do a light wash every couple of weeks or when DGD stays. Bedding that used to take 2 separate washes, now all gets shoved into together. Tops aren't fresh on every day. Dog related washing is excluded from all rules.

Where on earth are you finding all the dirty clothes? Do people not wear things more than once?

Gym wear only wear once, all underwear including socks/tights changed daily. Cannot abide food smells on clothes especially if we have been to an Indian, Malaysian or Thai restaurant or even cooking curry or strong smelling food at home.

Change tea towels and hand towels every day, bath/shower towels twice a week. Bedding weekly.

Night clothes every other day.

Cleaning cloths after each use, inside door mats weekly.

Cushion covers, sofa throws, perhaps I am just overly fastidious?
