My teeth sadly wouldnt survive a toffee apple.

I was never keen in toffee apples a child and even less so now. The very thought of eating an apple along with sticky, nasty, toffee just makes be baulk.

Do like a piece of good quality bonfire toffee though, providing it is eaten alone........or with more bonfire toffee.

You could have laughed together, flashing your pearly whites. A whole set each!

False ones 😁

Toffee apples have to be covered in toffee.

I haven't eaten one since I made a very large amount for a Hallowe'en party when the children were young.

Ginger parkin - good idea! I don't think the DGC like ginger though.

I can't think of the last time I had a candied apple (that's what we call them). I like the thinnest coating of the candy though, if it's too thick they are too hard to eat.

When you call them toffee apples, I think of toffee as soft chewy candy and was wondering if that's how you make them. Ours are a hard caramel, with a bit of red food colouring. My friend makes some for Hallowe'en; her house is very popular!

What we call toffee apples here are just as you describe. Not soft and chewy like toffees at all.

Ours are made of very brittle...erm, well, it's not toffee, I suppose.

Can I just say I have all my own teeth, no bridges, no implants, no crowns, nothing. My dentist tells me my teeth are very good. I have eaten toffee or chocolate apples every autumn for decades.

My nan was the same; she ate the toffee that you broke with a hammer, nougat, everything like that, and never had a filling or anything her whole life.

I think your Nan and I would have got on well MissAdventure 🤣

I'll try a chocolate one.
I'm hoping to get to Lidl at some point, so I'm sure they'll have them there.

Toffee apples always remind me of the fair coming to town. smile
I've not tried the chocolate ones, but that's because I'd rather have a big dollop of chocolate without an apple.

They are heaven on a stick! ❤️ try one and report back! Best one I had so far is Tesco. They have them near the fruit! 😝

Dreadful, sugary unhealthy stuff in my opinion.

Think of your teeth.

I wouldn’t dream of offering my grandson toffee apples.

They ought to be banned,

The layer of chocolate is so thin and once that’s gone you have a nice, big juicy apple that surely is good for the teeth.

Incidentally, I heard Ozzy Osbourne talking on the radio today. He says he can eat up to 24 apples in a day. His favourites are Pink Lady which are also faves in our house.

My bad teeth are testament to eating toffee etc as a child I loved toffee apples I used to make them for my DS and DD. I bought my GC chocolate toffee apples but they said they never had apples on a stick.
My son told me they don’t ever buy them toffee or chocolate apples because they are bad for their teeth. Naughty nanny considered myself well and truly told off!

Love the original toffee apple but wouldn't dare tackle one nowadays. Too many crowns!

Marydoll Sat 19-Oct-24 23:42:38

I had a craving for toffee apples the other day. I made them and nearly lost a crown. That will teach me!
I could sell the toffee as a replacement for super glue.

OMG toffee 🍎❤️
No chocolate ones for me tho, am a purist about them😄

Have never liked toffee apples, but when it gets to bonfire night I love home made treacle toffee, or a slice of Parkin, but nobody really does them anymore. Is all organised fireworks and a bag of haribos.

tanith Sat 19-Oct-24 22:17:32

No! toffee apples are what they are called toffee apples not chocolate apples or yoghurt apples. Apples covered in toffee and nothing else including marshmallows.
Sorry but I prefer the original.

Lisaangel10 Sat 19-Oct-24 21:55:17

All the supermarkets have toffee apples and chocolate ones with tiny marshmallow or sprinkles to decorate. I love them and figure they can’t be too unhealthy as you have a lovely big juicy apple covered in just a very thin layer of chocolate with a bit of decoration.

Anybody else tried them? They usually disappear after Halloween.
