A poem I thought I would share. x

I recently ate at a restaurant where a table of girlfriends of a certain age were having a wonderful timeniz

Lunch With Girlfriends
By Kathy O’Malley

Elaine’s vertigo has never been worse
Kay can’t recall where she left her purse
Rhonda’s about to replace her knees
Linda’s breathing is tinged with a wheeze

Donna's left boob has a troublesome lump
Diane’s on her third trip to take a dump
Lorraine’s husband can’t remember a thing
Nine years a widow, Marge still wears her ring

Marlene is dealing with another UTI
Sally’s giving a hearing aid another try
Marie has decided she can’t drive at night
Sharon still wears clothes two sizes too tight

They’ve been through divorces and babies and wakes
They do for each other whatever it takes
They’ve already buried Marcia and Kate
And truthfully, Lizzie’s not looking so great

So whenever they can, they get out to eat
Open bottles of wine and forget their sore feet
There’s laughing and crying and letting down guards
And when the bill comes, there’s ten credit cards

So here’s to the waiters who keep orders straight
And to the places that let lunches run three hours late
And here’s to the girlfriends, those near and those far
Here's to the girlfriends, you know who you are!!!”

Dottydots Mon 21-Oct-24 18:22:14

Oh lonely me. I would love to be in that group of girls.

Babs03 Mon 21-Oct-24 20:08:38

Lovely stuff, our gang of four who once were five is very similar.

Oh lonely me. I would love to be in that group of girls.

Me too Dottydots. You aren't alone, I'm in the same boat.

Oh so true! Especially the bit about the poor staff having to sort out the 10 credit cards at the end of a boozy lunch!

One place where we had a few Grans lunches somehow, magically always had accurate individual bills for each of us. I don't know how they did it but it was very impressive.

‘Nine years a widow, Marge still wears her ring’…….that would be me, I will never take it off.

Suzan05 Tue 22-Oct-24 13:47:33

No friends here, would be lovely to belong to a group.

heavenlyheath Tue 22-Oct-24 15:16:20

Soooo women of a certain age having fun no holes barred.😃😀😄

heavenlyheath Tue 22-Oct-24 15:17:08

Where do you live Suzan05?

Nelmar Tue 22-Oct-24 15:35:23

I.d be your friend Susan

grandtanteJE65 Tue 22-Oct-24 16:51:49

Well, I can only say, I am glad I am not one of your friends and am being lampooned so offensively in public.

I do hope none of your friends share my view of the matter, though I rather suspect the widow mentioned intends, as do I, to wear her wedding ring until she dies.

I have left instructions that I am to be buried wearing mine.

Tastes differ.

We've had this one before, and I gave a copy to all in my little group which meets every month. It describes us exactly! Especially when it comes to the credit cards!

Georgesgran Tue 22-Oct-24 16:58:18

It’s just a poem grandtante and I think it’s brilliantly observed and written.
I can’t see where ‘lampooned’ comes into it.

123kitty Thu 24-Oct-24 01:09:14

Grandtante it’s just a lighthearted poem. The majority of women who lunch will hopefully smile when they read it.
