How wonderful - I have a lump in my throat ; the way Vanilla kept looking up - mind blowingly happy !
Which British song sums up the 1960s for you?
How do you feel about cameras on housing?
It's just a ten second video, but it says so much - without words, obviously, because chimps don't speak.

Heartbreaking, poor girl.
When I was 18 I was so worried about the zoo in the Midlands that held big cats in small cages I used to complain and wrote to our local paper, but it seemed people didn't care. Then late on Will Travers came along and did such remarkable work, be really loved and respected all animals. I wouldn't go to the zoo when I was young as they were cruel to the big cats and the elephants, things have changed so much thank goodness. If any animal is mistreated its our duty to try to put things right. I can’t watch the video as it would upset me so much. How dare anyone treat an animal badly.
So a big thank you to those that freed Vanilla. I don't wish her captors well, pity they can’t go in a cage for the rest of their lives and fed turnips.
For those saying they couldn't watch the video it's just a lovely clip of Vanilla's wonder and pleasure at the sky and grass, nothing horrible. Thanks for sharing MissAdventure
I do dislike it when people say they'd like an asteroid to come and take out all the humans, what even the new born innocent babies? Wouldn't it be better to address the inhumanities perpetuated on animals and other humans?
I was in tears watching this. How can people be so cruel to other species, especially close relatives of ours? I was given HRT when I was in my 40s (I'd had a hysterectomy so didn't have the usual symptoms). I asked the dr if it was made from pregnant horse urine, and refused to take it when I discovered that it was. Plant-based HRT is just as effective, and doesn't need poor constantly pregnant mares standing in stalls for their miserable lives.
Me too!
Nobody is saying that nature is sweet and kind, but deliberately inflicting harm on other species for our own selfish benefit is surely wrong?

If an asteroid came our way and just took human beings out leaving the animals and forests/seas/flora and fauna to coexist in peace I’d say bring it on!
The flora and fauna of Earth never coexisted peacefully. There is always competition for resources and always will be. It's what drives evolution and life itself.
"Nature" is not sweet and kindly.
how does that give us the right to abuse animals in labs for years, never mind days. Irrelevant, totally.

Beautiful, wasn't it?
The way her eyes widened.
❤
Oh my word that gave me some tears
Hideous that it’s still happening I remember when I was young crying over that poor dog that was sent into space
humans are hideous every animal should be free experiment on child abusers if you need to experiment on anything
Made me crunch🙏😢. Bless her heart xx
Made me cry 😢
Humans aren’t hideous as a whole species.
You have to respect and remember all the good that humans do as well, including amongst many other good things, the arts, poetry, sculpture, paintings and books and music.
Chimps can be very violent and cruel both to other chimps and other species btw.
I agree with Baggs

Nature is a thug and Nature can be beautiful. Both are true.

I once asked a young lady who was being very vociferous about animal rights if she would prefer the drugs her granny needed to be tested on her granny. Her answer was 'Yes! If she wants them she should test them!' I suggested that that could cause her granny grave harm and possibly kill her in quite nasty ways. She said 'Then she should do without'.
Thinking about it she was actually only a couple of years younger than me so she would probably be mid-60s now. I wonder if she is now grateful for the fact that she has drugs to keep her alive and/or in reasonable health or if she eschews them based on their history.
Animal testing has very limited measurable results.
The most that could be said is that drugs given to chimps had this or that effect.
I don't think chimps acting as chimps are hardwired to do is reason to lock them in metal cages for 30 years.
That's a ridiculous "excuse"
I just can't watch videos like this. It's appalling that human animals still treat other animals this way. It makes me 🤬
Totally agree MissA.
I hadn't seen this particular article but i regularly watch the programme Monkey Life/World which documents the work that the Monkey World park in Dorset does on a daily basis.
They have many species of primate rescued from labs all over the world but also from the UK pet trade. Dr Allison Cronin has long been petitioning our government and others to change the laws to give these animals the rights they deserve.
Watching the programme is both a joy to see them experience freedom to live as near a normal life as they can be given and such anger and sadness that humans still treat animals in the most appalling ways for their own 'pleasure'.
Yes man's inhumanity to other species is appalling. One of my hates is the poor Angora rabbits in China where women pull the fur from the live rabbits repeatedly to make cheap angora sweaters for the West. I would never ever wear one of theses sweaters and if the treatment of those poor rabbits was more know about neither would anyone else! The women workers in China are poorly paid and the quicker they work and the more fur they harvest the more they can earn. I think that in general, Chinese people can be extremely cruel to animals. Their meat market where they claim Covid started is testament to that. (disclaimer not all Chinese people).
It's a wonderful thing to see Vanilla's obvious pleasure at being free. So very heart warming indeed. There is so much cruelty to animals, it is sickening.
However, I don't agree that humans should all be got rid of.
There are millions of people that do good work, fantastic work, helping humanity and animals in myriad ways. Including people who try hard to help animals like Vanilla.

“ I spent my early years in a biomedical research laboratory in New York where chimpanzees were commonly housed in 5’x5’x7’ cages suspended above the ground like bird cages"
When I hear about the torture and murder of people, I honestly think lets release the poor animals who have to experience this and use the perpetrators of such horrendous acts...
I am with you there Dee1012. I always think it should be a part of your sentence if you’ve committed murder and we can then spare innocent animals that have never done anything wrong in their lives but what their obvious nature has called for. It’s horrendous and what right have we got to put animals through this. They have no voice to consent or say no. Being a vegan this makes me so sad and angry.
Thanks for sharing Miss A, I hope Vanilla has a joyous long free life, what a beautiful smile she has after such cruelly.
