Change of name for Labour.

I can’t understand why the Labour Party doesn’t change its name. The founders of it must be turning over in their graves at this bunch starting with Tony Blair.
Keir Starmer is just the cherry on top of the rotten fairy cake that Labour has morphed into, made up of broken promises and freebies. Doubtless when he has finished his turn on the merry go round he’ll follow Blair making millions from speaking engagements or join Blair’s Institute of Global Change exerting influence around the world when you are unelected and thereby unaccountable to anyone.

Instead of talking about what the public want They need to let the public wantI watched the lords economic affairs committee today discussing economic inactivity andwhats effective at getting people into work they were all a bit posh a bitout of touch maybe They were saying how many young people go from school to no jobs Shouldn't schools be training pupils to be confident and qulalified for somethinp people can leave schools no convidence and no preparation for work Instead of business skills maybe training in cooking sewing skills care building skills such as plastering help to learn to drive lots of deliveries being made these days So forget useless learning about Henry the ,,8th and help them being ready for something and confident

AI isn't great at replicating average education or intelligence yet, is it?

Personally I think they missed a beat by not taxing sour grapes.

Ha ha. Nice one.

Is the minimum bus fare still £2 then or did it go up?

Yes either they decided not to tinker with prescriptions for 60 year olds, single person discount etc after seeing a lot of bad press - or it was made up by other politicians inciting things.

T they
are

so smug in their freebies and how come no room in parliament for all the mps today What do all the mps do all the time when they don't usually turn up

Wasn’t it because there aren’t enough seats for them on the government side of the HOC’s and they didn’t want to sit with the opposition?

Btw, I’ve seen and heard nothing about taking away single person discount on council tax, removing free prescriptions from 60-65, nothing about bus passes, perhaps someone could point me to these?

It was an 'attack' on the suggestible, some of whom were 'targeted' and others 'hit'.

Agreed about the bus fares - the Tories were going to end the subsidy in December, so this is still a concession.

Labour are going to make it more difficult to buy counçil houses The Tory party under Margarate thatcher brought it in Have Labour ever done anything for working class people or even working people whatever the difference is

Had the Tory party done this properly they would have reinvested in building new social stock, housing would then have been much more available for people to live in.

Across the years the LP have done a lot for working people.

In terms of this budget, bus fares haven’t been “put up”, (yes, in real terms they have), but the cap extended, just not so generously, minimum wage has been increased, there’s nothing that is geared specifically to the wealthy and it’s seems a fairly balanced budget.

What would you have done differently?

Minimum wage increasing to cover increase in smoking vaping and bus fares and to help you have a hope in hell of ever buying a home

Vaping is a ticking time bomb with people’s health, especially young people…

All the major parties are the same. Full of promises which they promptly break and goals that all miss the mark. A lot of long winded idiots who have absolutely no common sense at all

In just a few months some know so much

...because I've seen it so many times before during my life. Maggie Thatcher has them sussed "Socialists soon run out of other peoples' money"

Gosh, has she been reincarnated? grin

Ilovecheese Wed 30-Oct-24 17:09:37

And Thatcherites run out of National Assets to sell off on the cheap.

In just a few months how can a new government be judged as
proving to be lamentably incapable of running the country

Thank you for your sensible comment x

Todays budget showed RR very much in command of her role and capable. Budget discussions over on the Budget thread.

I thought Starmer’s giggling was rude.

Can't take in what's been said in the budget I mean did she just say no. More discounts on buying councíl and housing association homes or what Sunak made them look like children again sat there giggling
while Sunak spoke gutted if that's it for the dream of buying your home one day

I don’t believe it’s delusional Cateq. We wouldn’t have an NHS if not for the LP.

More recently what about Tony Blair’s government? Admittedly they made some awful mistakes, most notably over Iraq but they undoubtedly vastly improved the NHS whilst they were in power, and child poverty rates were far lower than now for example. No food banks then!

That was the LP then however. Now it is quite a different party.

Cateq Wed 30-Oct-24 12:37:54

Just listen to the chancellor go on about how the Labour Party have rebuilt Britain on several occasions, delusional as usual
