Musicals you liked

I've been underwhelmed by most musicals. Like opera, the whole concept is so odd - some major life event is occurring and the protagonists burst into song? How daft!
But despite all that, I absolutely love Cats!

Quartet not Contract!!

I've just remembered the Million Dollar Contract which was absolutely brilliant.

Tina in the West End was unbelievable. Majority of musicals in London wouldn’t allow dancing in the isles but with Tina they had allowed time at the end for everyone to join in, it was incredible. Dream Girls was very good to and The Magic of Motown. Can you tell I’m a Motown girl.

How interesting singingnutty - Fiddler on the Roof I really did think was great but War Horse (once you had seen the horse once) was underwhelming in my opinion - and I wanted to slap someone for overusing the bl***y duck!

Warhorse at the NT was wonderful. Fiddler on the Roof is a favourite. Sorry, but Les Mis doesn’t float my boat.

Oops, just noticed I've got my musicals mixed up.... Craig RH played the wicked witch of the west in the Wizard of Oz, and we've also seen him in Annie (another favourite) as Miss Hannigan. Such fun 😁

Come From Away! It’s an incredibly uplifting musical about the kindness of strangers, set against the 9/11 tragedy.
It’s life-affirming and exactly what we all need!
It’s doing a UK tour at the moment after being on at the West End for years.

Bed knobs and Broomsticks, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady. The classics for me .

Come from Away is still on tour I think and we love it. Seen it 5 or 6 times.

It is. I saw it in Norwich last week having seen it in London when it first came out. I also loved Jersey Boys and Tina. Guys and Dolls was amazing. Both Les Mis and Blood Brothers bored me to death.

My favourites are Jersey Boys, Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon, Rocky Horror Show, Phantom, Chicago, Cabaret, Six.

I also loved Hamilton and Wicked, but glad I read up on the stories before I went otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on.

Shows I've seen this year and loved are Wizard of Oz (Craig Revel Horward played Miss Hannigan - brilliant};
Becoming Nancy (Birmingham Rep but not sure if its touring);
Aladdin - great tunes and the genie stole the show as in the film.

I'm not a fan of Blood Bros, or Les Mis. I found them both a little too depressing.

Saw an Officer and a Gentleman. It was a pleasant evening but the show was pretty forgettable and the main actors didnt have much by way of chemistry (imo)

Hamilton and Witness for the Prosecution, both excellent shows.

South Pacific, Oklahoma, and West Side Story
Also Kiss me Kate and Guys and Dolls as DS has sung in both (playing second male lead!)

More modern ones: Les Mis, Phantom, Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.Have

Cannot stand The Sound of Music!

Martin Guerre was set in France in wars between Catholics and protestants. They thought Martin had been killed in the war , then his pal came back pretending to be Martin, who then DID come back himself!

Westside Story, Free as Air, Les Miserable, (the last theatre performance I saw with my much loved mother) Myerling, more of an Opera I suppose, and many others.

As an Irish person, I loved Seven Drunken Nights the story of The Dubliners. Everyone was up dancing. Also Sunny Afternoon the story of The Kinks.

Would love to see Kinky Boots.

Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots & Blood Brothets. Back in my youth I loved Hair.

Very moving to think it’s based on a real event too .

Yes and a part of that real event that many were not aware of. I loved that it was original and didn’t have high profile actors .

Recently saw Here You Come Again, which features the music of Dolly Parton. Brilliant.
Was disappointed with SIX.
Love Les Mis, lost count of how many times I've seen it & will never tire of it.
Blown away by Miss Saigon, went to see it twice within a couple of weeks.
So many to choose from!

Has anyone seen the touring version of An Officer and A Gentleman?

Yes, me, saw it in Liverpool. It was most disappointing- just a string of 1980’s hits thrown at the bare bones of the film plot. Acting and dancing were really poor.

Love Phantom and Miss Saigon Also the jukebox musical Sunshine on Leith

Back in the 90s I went with my daughter to see Heathcliff starring Cliff Richard. Cliff was in his mid 50s, Heathcliff was 19 I believe. I'll say no more.
