Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and cloudy. Very warm start to November! Baubles 💐. Susan is your mum going home or to a home?
Yesterday I had a morning of paperwork to do so the lawyer can lodge the application for guardianship for mum. Later I made soup. I've never had any guides in the six years I've been here, so stopped buying anything in. To my horror I heard a wee knock last night. I didn't answer the door and feel very guilty about it.
The boys dressed up as minions from the Despicable films and we're very cute.
Today I have to visit the lawyer first thing, then dd will nip in with dgs2 after playgroup for his soup. Later I'm meeting a friend for coffee in town then picking up my prescription. Have a good day all.

Good morning all from a calm looking dry north Suffolk. Yesterday morning started like this and turned into a lovely sunny day.

Life is returning to a peaceful normal after a wonderful few days earlier in the week with our Bristol family. It started off well with the DGC rushing in and wanting to be the first to give DH big hugs…..although 15 year old DGS hugs me but now shakes DH’s hand!

The weather was glorious whilst they were here and we all enjoyed walks on the beach with the dogs. The restrictions at our nearest one about dogs on the beach only last from May to September so there were loads of dogs and children on the beach and in the sea.

I hope life has been kind to all during the past few days. I’m about to enjoy another cup of tea and see what you’ve all been up to.

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 12°C.

I love to hear of all the comings and goings.
Baubles, I hope all goes well today.

I am whacked this morning, after a full on day yesterday. The interview with the medical student was very entertaining. She asked what my health condition was and the GP burst out laughing. I explained that I had a few!

An added bonus was, although this was not a GP appointment, after a dreadful coughing fit, the GP was very concerned about the (nearly two year old cough) and asked if I minded her sending specimens away to the lab. She was shocked that it had taken so long to secure a respiratory appointment. Every cloud etc.....

Afterwards, I met DH for lunch. I was stunned to find he had turned on My Location on his phone and I knew where he was. My euphoria didn't last long, when I realised he was miles away and hadn't moved for ages! 😂
He hadn't turned on the tracking part.
We had a very enjoyable fish supper and I bought a sparkly jumper, I didn't need. 😉
On arriving home, I promptly fell asleep!

Last night's visit from the Bishop was a comedy of errors. We arrived to find that the morning sacristan had gone home, without tidying up or leaving the church ready for the evening.
The altar was bare, no candlesticks at all ( there should have been six large, feast day ones) the wrong Lectionary was out, no sign of the Bishop's chalice, the Missal was set for a weekday, the vestments were the wrong colour etc. etc.

The protocol is that you leave everything ready for the next service, so that if the sacristan gets waylaid, Mass can start on time. It was if the morning sacristan had totally lost the plot.
We were fuming, for we had planned to unpack the huge order of candles etc. I had ordered. There were boxes everywhere.
We have a Whats App chat, he could have advised us of any problems and we would have come down earlier. 😡

Then the young sacristan asked if I could hear anything. There was silence, which meant the heating hadn't come on. 😭
It has just cost thousands to repair. It was absolutely freezing in the church. There was no power going to the boiler and I could have wept.
As it was so dark, we needed lights, but we could only put so many on, or the electrics would blow. ( The church has a seven year refurbishment plan).
Unfortunately we pleased no-one, no matter what combination of lights we used, parishioners were complaining. I just kept extolling the beauty of the candle light and how atmospheric it was.

The visiting priest arrived, he spoke Italian and no English. There was no sign of the PP, so I was trying to speak to him. I was so flustered, I forgot every single word of Italian, I had ever learned. 😱
I went out to ask Mr MD ( remember, he is in deafness denial) how to say something in Italian. Between my very hoarse voice and his deafness, I gave up. I think the people around him, thought I had gone mad.

Mass was about to start, when we realised that the microphone in the choir loft was letting out the most awful scratching sound. I rushed out and was waving to the cantor to switch it off, while she leaning over the balcony telling me something, I already knew. IT ISN"T WORKING!
However, she wouldn't listen and kept switching it on and off. I (with mobility issues) had to climb up to the choir loft, to tell her it was broken and to leave it alone! Would she listen?
According to the other sacristan, The PP, who is a fluent Italian speaker, was so flustered, (Remember, his boss, the Bishop was also in the sacristy) still in Italian mode, started ranting in Italian, it was a madhouse.

When I got back down from the choir loft, I found myself locked out of the sacristy, due to the drama, I had forgotten to take my keys.
I was frantically waving to the sacristan on the altar to come and unlock the door, to let me in. My husband was trying to pretend that he didn't know me, What a noticebox! 😉

Trying to support the sacristan ( the one whose wife is desperately ill) we tried to leave everything ready for his 8am shift, so that he would have nothing to do.
I was so late home, DH was not at all amused.

A quick Sainsbury's shop and a day of rest I hope. I can bet that won't happen.😉

Have a good day folks and hugs for all, who are struggling. It was good to see you posting, Blossoming.

Love the little minions Grandmabatty.

Mum is going into a home.It has been her worst fear but she has accepted the situation and is relieved to no longer have to think about managing the house, bills and garden.

grandMattie Fri 01-Nov-24 08:11:50

Oh, MD, how awful for you all!
Big hugs and a good rest today… 🤗❤️

Good morning from a Hotel near The Mailbox Birmingham.

Tasty Tapas meal last night before the show. Then onto the Alexandra Theatre to see Fastlove, a George Michael tribute. It was a fabulous show.

Then home and off to meet the family for lunch. There will be 10 of us!

Wishing you all the best day possible

EkwaNimitee Fri 01-Nov-24 08:24:43

Good morning Mick and everyone from gloomy damp Carlisle.
Probably another non-gardening day and I have plants waiting to go in.
There's quite a few little jobs I could do today...or not! I should. I also could and probably will do some online shopping, I have my eye on sweaters, can't have enough of them, that's the upside of winter!

All was quiet here last night except for 2 houses that seem to have confused their celebrations and were having fireworks.

I wish your Mum well in her new home Susan, I hope she will be happy there.

Marydoll your novella today made me think of a possible new situation comedy for TV. You could think of taking up scriptwriting...

And wishing you all a good day.

Stilllearning Fri 01-Nov-24 08:27:54

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, thinking about you and your family baubles💐

I’m waiting for the Sky e gineer to arrive (yes, the saga continues Georgesgran)! Also a gardener/ treecutter to do a very necessary job of taming my small front garden. I’ve been trying to find someone for ages and eventually ambushed this chap when I saw him in someone else’s garden. 🤞🤞

All Saint’s day, first time ever I haven’t managed to mass, I’ll have to make do with online.

Good wishes to all for the day.

Jaxjacky Fri 01-Nov-24 08:29:25

Susan56 there is an air of inevitability in your post, how sad 🌹
Good to see you Grandmabatty little minions 🙂

Grandmabatty Fri 01-Nov-24 08:33:17

Susan it'll be peace of mind for you too. My mum will go into a home once I have guardianship. Because she has deteriorated so much, I'll tell her it's for rehabilitation. The rest of the family will go along with it. Hopefully my brother will too but, despite not wanting to be involved, he's been very awkward. My best wishes to your mum. Marydoll a comedy of errors! That sacristan needs spoken to!

Grammaretto Fri 01-Nov-24 08:40:14

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's mild and still again.
I was up early lighting my gas kiln as it can take 15 hours to reach its top temperature. I glazed pots and packed the kiln yesterday.

I have a df staying which is very nice and this afternoon an engineer is coming from Ayrshire to fit a replacement oven door, after the explosion last week. It's a goodwill gesture by the manufacturer. Huh!

Now off to my volunteering job. Though with all the higher taxes I may need to find a paid job.

So glad you are happily in Spain FGT

Hoping everyone has a good day.

Taichinan Fri 01-Nov-24 08:43:21

Good morning Mick and all. There's a pretty blue and pink start to the day on the Angus coast. I was about to throw the bedding into the machine but decided not to after consulting my weather app. It's usually accurate except when it forecasts gales of astronomical proportions and has told me it's going to rain from 11am onwards.
Yesterday I had a re-run of the post-jab exhaustion which I experienced exactly a week ago and was totally 'out of it' for the whole day. I hope that's the end of it!
Today I have to do a 'big' shop and make a start also on the tai chi monthly paperwork so let's hope my energy has returned.
I can commiserate with you karma driving into that low sun at this time of year. It can be totally blinding and very dangerous when you come upon it at the brow if a hill or round a bend. Good luck with the allotment, although I can't imagine how you'll fit anything else into your busy days!
Glad you enjoyed your day out with your DGD grandmattie. They're such good company as they grow older.
It's my youngest's 19th birthday on Sunday. When I asked her why she'd chosen that particular restaurant for her celebration she said it was because it does the best cocktails! Where's my little girl gone!!
Enjoy all your doings today everyone x

GrannySomerset Fri 01-Nov-24 08:47:49

Who knew just how complex Mass could be? Sorry to laugh, Marydoll, it must be the way you tell it. Hope the move goes smoothly for your DM, Susan, it’s never easy. Thinking enviously of the warmth, FGT, though we have some nice weather just now so I had better get ready to go out in it - oldies’ coffee morning and then DD and DSiL arrive later.

Stilllearning Fri 01-Nov-24 08:48:37

Susan a hard time for you and your mum, you’re doing so well💕

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 01-Nov-24 08:51:25

Oh Marydoll you and your life! You do make me giggle! What a palaver, one thing after another. I bet your blood pressure was sky high! Mine would have been. Mind you, Google Translate (speaking) would have been helpful with the Italian PP! Next time, go armed …. 😁

And it’s super to have you back with us Grandmabatty. You are much loved on here and we’ve missed your tales. Those cute Minions, aw! 💙💙

My thoughts fly to Blossoming and Kalu just now. Tough times for you both in different ways.

Marydoll Fri 01-Nov-24 09:00:09

FGT, I do speak Italian, but my mind went totally blank and the Bishop standing watching bemusedly didn't help.

Anyway, all a distant memory. Onto the next crisis , or I may join a convent. wink

Georgesgran Fri 01-Nov-24 09:03:19

Good morning from Durham. A fine, sunny beginning to the day. I made a start on 🎄shopping yesterday - a Dior giftset for my Sis-in-Law. I’m not a 🎄lover at all, so little by little is my way.

Leaves!!! I’ve piles of them all over the garden and more to fall too - they aren’t even mine - but I’ve some strong black bags to put them in, as I don’t want them to blow back around the garden.

I gave up with Sky in the end still and got the necessary cables from Amazon and my friend’s son fixed it all up, in return for a couple of bottles of wine!

I hope your Mum settles in Susan. It’s good she’s acknowledged her situation, accepting it could be a different matter? What a mess.💐for you.

No laughing matter MD but the picture you paint is worthy of a Carry-on film.

November already!!!

Best wishes to all. X

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 01-Nov-24 09:04:08

You can’t Marydoll you’d lead the other nuns astray and the Mother Superior would be having stern words. 🤣

aggie Fri 01-Nov-24 09:09:16

Good morning from a dull Co Armagh, it might be a tad cooler today , but it is lovely and dry
Off to Mass shortly , we had no heating last Sunday ! I whispered to our Sacristan and she said she had spent ages resetting the timer but now she couldn’t get it to work at all , luckily a builder was sitting beside me and heard , so he got it going ! Mind you I don’t think we need the heating on today
I’m in a wee bit of a pickle , pains in my hands , I use a rollator, so I’ve rubbed plenty of gel on them ! But it stinks ! I’m told the smell wears off quickly 🙄
Wishing everyone a good All Saints day 💐

aggie Fri 01-Nov-24 09:11:51

I agree with FGT 🤣🤣🤣

GrannyGravy13 Fri 01-Nov-24 09:12:26

Susan56 it is a very upsetting time for you and your dear Mum, sending you (((hugs)))

Grandmabatty love your little minions hope you are well

MaryDoll I have no words 🤣🤣🤣

Susan56 Fri 01-Nov-24 09:27:18

Thank you so much for all your supportive comments, they really help.

I hope mum settles in the home. She’s very resilient and I think the house has been a weight on her mind for a while. To begin with I said she would go into the home while she recovered but the last few visits she has asked me to sell her house so I think she realises she can’t go back there😔

Grandmabatty I hope the gaurdianship comes through soon. Its been a long road for you getting it all sorted. My brothers have a lot to say too after reappearing like the prodigal🙄
