Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 12°C.
I love to hear of all the comings and goings.
Baubles, I hope all goes well today.
I am whacked this morning, after a full on day yesterday. The interview with the medical student was very entertaining. She asked what my health condition was and the GP burst out laughing. I explained that I had a few!
An added bonus was, although this was not a GP appointment, after a dreadful coughing fit, the GP was very concerned about the (nearly two year old cough) and asked if I minded her sending specimens away to the lab. She was shocked that it had taken so long to secure a respiratory appointment. Every cloud etc.....
Afterwards, I met DH for lunch. I was stunned to find he had turned on My Location on his phone and I knew where he was. My euphoria didn't last long, when I realised he was miles away and hadn't moved for ages! 😂
He hadn't turned on the tracking part.
We had a very enjoyable fish supper and I bought a sparkly jumper, I didn't need. 😉
On arriving home, I promptly fell asleep!
Last night's visit from the Bishop was a comedy of errors. We arrived to find that the morning sacristan had gone home, without tidying up or leaving the church ready for the evening.
The altar was bare, no candlesticks at all ( there should have been six large, feast day ones) the wrong Lectionary was out, no sign of the Bishop's chalice, the Missal was set for a weekday, the vestments were the wrong colour etc. etc.
The protocol is that you leave everything ready for the next service, so that if the sacristan gets waylaid, Mass can start on time. It was if the morning sacristan had totally lost the plot.
We were fuming, for we had planned to unpack the huge order of candles etc. I had ordered. There were boxes everywhere.
We have a Whats App chat, he could have advised us of any problems and we would have come down earlier. 😡
Then the young sacristan asked if I could hear anything. There was silence, which meant the heating hadn't come on. 😭
It has just cost thousands to repair. It was absolutely freezing in the church. There was no power going to the boiler and I could have wept.
As it was so dark, we needed lights, but we could only put so many on, or the electrics would blow. ( The church has a seven year refurbishment plan).
Unfortunately we pleased no-one, no matter what combination of lights we used, parishioners were complaining. I just kept extolling the beauty of the candle light and how atmospheric it was.
The visiting priest arrived, he spoke Italian and no English. There was no sign of the PP, so I was trying to speak to him. I was so flustered, I forgot every single word of Italian, I had ever learned. 😱
I went out to ask Mr MD ( remember, he is in deafness denial) how to say something in Italian. Between my very hoarse voice and his deafness, I gave up. I think the people around him, thought I had gone mad.
Mass was about to start, when we realised that the microphone in the choir loft was letting out the most awful scratching sound. I rushed out and was waving to the cantor to switch it off, while she leaning over the balcony telling me something, I already knew. IT ISN"T WORKING!
However, she wouldn't listen and kept switching it on and off. I (with mobility issues) had to climb up to the choir loft, to tell her it was broken and to leave it alone! Would she listen?
According to the other sacristan, The PP, who is a fluent Italian speaker, was so flustered, (Remember, his boss, the Bishop was also in the sacristy) still in Italian mode, started ranting in Italian, it was a madhouse.
When I got back down from the choir loft, I found myself locked out of the sacristy, due to the drama, I had forgotten to take my keys.
I was frantically waving to the sacristan on the altar to come and unlock the door, to let me in. My husband was trying to pretend that he didn't know me, What a noticebox! 😉
Trying to support the sacristan ( the one whose wife is desperately ill) we tried to leave everything ready for his 8am shift, so that he would have nothing to do.
I was so late home, DH was not at all amused.
A quick Sainsbury's shop and a day of rest I hope. I can bet that won't happen.😉
Have a good day folks and hugs for all, who are struggling. It was good to see you posting, Blossoming.
