We won £200 on the premium bonds.........

The freezer seems to have righted itself so, according to 'girl maths', we £200 plus the £1500- 2000 that we didn't have to spend on a fridge freezer means I'm feeling quite wealthy.

I've never won anything on PBs for the past 50 years! I seem to have better luck at fete bottle stalls though.

Imo there does have to be interest - or the amount of money is going down in real terms. Remembering when I thought I wasnt doing too badly swopping from a (poorly-paid) job at around £2,800 pa to one where I got £3,500 pa. But even the top one of those figures would be nothing much these days - courtesy of inflation.

I guess I keep money in premium bonds personally because the rate of interest paid on savings kept some other way is so low still and I've always got hope of a big win at some point - thus getting a decent rate of interest on it and plenty to just spend as I please.

I think one gets to the age when interest is no longer as important.
If income is enough to enjoy life then interest is just for leaving to the family or whoever is getting your estate.
The excitement of a win , when you can indulge yourself instantly, becomes far preferable to me.
My family will be provided for and I know they will just spend and enjoy their inheritance.

I've worked out the interest I've had on PB annually; one year it was below what I could have got in an ISA but generally it's about the same and there is always that anticipation of winning the Big One each month!

I don't buy lottery tickets or bet so this is my gambling instinct satisfied. 🙂

I have the max holding - i.e. all my savings. I am making far more than I would on ISAs and there is none of the faffing around involved with them. Tax free - bit of a frisson every month - perfect!

I’m perfectly certain that the two lucky folk each month who have a knock on the door from Agent Million are just as staggered as the rest of us would be.

It’s a bit of excitement each month, isn’t it, and I expect most people have their savings split between Premium Bonds and other savings accounts paying a guaranteed rate.

I like the excitement every month and at present I am not paying tax on any winnings. Somebody has to win the million so why not one of us?

I prefer to put my savings into accounts with guaranteed interest, rather than Premium Bonds.

Someone with less than 10 bonds won a substantial sum last month; they'd held them for years.

That’s exactly what happened to us. We had a large number of bonds but only got the usual payouts.
A work colleague was in a bit of a pickle and we were able to help.
We knew he wasn’t flush financially but he bought us 3 bonds ( early 80s) and wished us good luck with them.
Only months later we won £1,000 on one of his bonds.

I won £25 in 2015. That was my one and only win ever on the Premium Bonds. Mind you, I do only have £100 worth.

DD won £100 once many years ago, she only has 30.

I’m stilling waiting since my one and only win of £90 in 1991. I only have a small amount. I’m wondering if I should cash them in and buy new ones.

My husband has one from when he was young. He has never won a penny!

OH got £100, I got £50. Just checked.

I was about to say woohoo. Then saw the next bit. A fridge freezer will cost more than £200. But at least it's something towards it

£50 for me this month; not going to go very far, but better than nothing!

£100 here, I expected nothing after three months of decent wins.

I thought I caught a glimpse of something about some sort of tax on winnings - and hope I'm wrong.

After all - there is no interest paid on Premium Bonds and the way I figure it is my winnings are basically paying me a (teeny tiny) bit of interest - ie I think it's only about equating to around 1% interest since I got them and certainly no "real" wins (ie enough to actually give me something over and above what I need for inflation).

If you look at the amount the winners hold most have the full £50,000 . Only a few holding a small amount win but we can always hope .

Of course the more you invest, the better your chances. But the fun of premium bonds is that you can win big for a relatively small stake. Eight people with holdings of less than £10,000 have won £100,000 this month. Someone with £22 worth has won £50,000. So I can still dream.

This rather heartens me. We have never had premium bonds, but last month DH decided to draw down a considerable amount of his private pension, and we've bought £50k's worth. 🤞
If we win big, I'll share it round!

My OH is lucky. He wins something every month. I think the largest is £350 so never big wins.
