Just saw there's a programme on tonight at 8.10pm on Channel 4 - Dispatches - apparently showing the huge amounts of money King Charles and Prince William are making from public services. Methinks they should be paying inheritance tax along with everyone else!

It sounds interesting though - if it's what they say it is.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is responsible to the Sovereign for the administration of the Duchy. However, he/she delegates certain functions, particularly those regarding asset management, to the Duchy Council.

He is a divorcee who committed adultery and is now married to one of the women he cheated with.

Who said anything about getting rid of any royals?

Sadly marriages end , in this marriage both had affairs.
I suggest you read the posts re getting rid of the royals

Is it really unreasonable to think it would be better for us and for them if they stopped charging rent to the NHS and the RNLI ? At least. And perhaps made sure that any residential property that they were renting out is maintained to a decent standard?
Is there really any decent objection to made to those ideas?

Including the words former and previously might make your statement more accurate.

We now have a divorced, adulterous King (nothing new there). Couldn't they be trimmed down financially rather than beheaded? The sun has set on the British Empire.

7 working members of the family, should we get rid of
Anne, Edward and Sophie ?

merlotgran Tue 05-Nov-24 13:30:26

We now have a divorced, adulterous King (nothing new there).

Who would that be then?

King Charles is happily married.

Indigo8 Tue 05-Nov-24 13:26:36

Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, Putin and many others. Trump?(possibly we'll know soon)

I have no love for the royals who only claim to excessive wealth and privilege is being born into the firm. We now have a divorced, adulterous King (nothing new there). Couldn't they be trimmed down financially rather than beheaded? The sun has set on the British Empire.

It’s called democracy, voting.
The RF are there by accident of birth. They are a medieval institution and are not compatible with modern democracy.

Would you prefer power to be in the hands of a President who can then change the rules?

Someone mentioned the merits of the French Revolution; surely a little delve into French history would remind them of how the public rid themselves of a Monarchy only to find themselves with an Emperor after a rigged election who established his own rule of nepotism and heirs.

Watching the events in the USA at the moment should send a shudder through us all.

The medieval period was from 1154 and ended at the beginning of the Tudor period after the Battle of Bosworth (look it up) 1485. I don't actually think that today's RF, 540 years later is representative of Medieval England!! It is a pity that some people who deplore the RF have to resort to offensive, bordering on obscene language to describe them on a personal level. Surely most folk can manage to articulate personal dislike about anyone without descending into insults? also perhaps a brushup on history might be an advantage!

Surely we can discuss the merits of a Republic versus a Constitutional Democracy without using disgusting language or showing such lack of knowledge?

I thought we were all adults on here.

Difficult Jaberwok how kind of you, thank you x

I don't like the current Royal in charge but I am in favour of royalty overall. I just think a President will open the doors to the likes of Trump and his ilk particularly as a country we appear reluctant to vote. However, I do think there should be a radical overhaul. Let them pay the appropriate taxes on their personal estates and be under the same rules as everybody else when it comes to making money. Those things that belong to the Crown should be publicly owned and exempt from taxation.

Whilst Williams properties should meet the same standard as other landlords, a lot of social housing isn't and jolly well should be.

I am just minded the UK voted Boris in!

You have to feel sorry for Andrew, though.
Apparently Royal Lodge is crumbling and has mould.
I do hope the dogs are all right.

Do we, really?

Indigo8 Mon 04-Nov-24 16:28:34

Yes Grandmabetty I agree but we ought to remember what happened in Germany during the middle years of the 20th Century and in France under Napoleon.

I agree with you, not only parasites but hypocrites too when we hear Prince William going on and on about homelessness, it makes me mad when they have all those homes -39 - I believe which are unoccupied most of the year.

Where are William 39 homes ?

He has over 600! Not that he lives in :-)

"The Duchy has more than 600 rental properties and over a 15-month investigation we identified nearly 500 of them. We found 50 Duchy properties rated F and 20 rated G, including six properties with the lowest EPC score of one point out of 100.

We spoke to a number of tenants on condition of anonymity who are living in cold, poorly insulated homes, often without central heating..."
