Ch4 Dispatches tonight about Royals making money

Just saw there's a programme on tonight at 8.10pm on Channel 4 - Dispatches - apparently showing the huge amounts of money King Charles and Prince William are making from public services. Methinks they should be paying inheritance tax along with everyone else!

It sounds interesting though - if it's what they say it is.

They are taxed differently to everyone else, and pay some voluntarily.
I very much doubt they pleaded to pay as much as possible.

No reports on the millions they pay in tax, yet another very one sided report

I’m watching the Queens campaign against domestic violence. Horrific what goes on in some homes

No, Mountbatten's will was not made public

Anniebach Thu 07-Nov-24 15:09:08

Most odd, I wonder now if Lord Mountbatten will is public ?

Farzanah Thu 07-Nov-24 13:40:43

I thought they were the only ones who can apply to have wills sealed. Otherwise wills that go to probate are available for public scrutiny aren’t they?
Of course if there is hardly any money you don’t need to apply for probate, so doesn’t become public.

Anniebach Thu 07-Nov-24 13:21:18

Very, so not only the royal family wills can be closed ?

Farzanah Thu 07-Nov-24 12:57:55

These trusts and wills for the royals and aristocracy are very complicated.

Apologies, there has been much in the press about Harry and
monies when age 40, I should have searched for info

Regardless of trust funds, the Queen Mother left her estate to the late Queen which meant, that it was estimated that around £20 m was saved in tax. Antiques, valuable works of art, racehorses etc.

By contrast, William and Harry paid around £6m in tax on their mother’s estate rather than exploit a similar legal device because of fears the public would react badly to efforts to avoid the bill. (The Guardian)

Trust funds are legal , tax avoidance is legal and common practice, Tax evasion is illegal

This granny knows how to suck eggs thanks.
I used 'dodge' = avoidance, l didn't suggest it was illegal. I consider avoidance immoral, usually executed via a loophole enabled by government that favours the wealthy at the expense of the poor.
Night night

OldFrill Thu 07-Nov-24 01:18:12

The calculated dodge was whether she'd live 7 years (I think she was in her 90s when they were drawn up). Whilst not illegal the extent the RF take £££ from its "subjects" and return as little as possible back shows what a contemptible family of leeches they are. They seem to have no moral compass.

William and Harry received some of the trust fund when they were 21, the rest when they were 40. Imagine the other GC were on the same deal.
Nothing to do with her will

The Queen Mother’s will was made public

It all went to her daughter so nothing to be secretive about.

She had set up trust funds for her great-grandchildren with the majority of her money going to them.

Harry received his share recently.

Money was a small part of her fortune. The trust funds were a calculated tax dodge that paid off, of course.

Th RF can change rules, or use their influence to do so when advantageous seemingly. Only the ruling Royal can pass private wealth to their heir, ie Queen Elizabeth to Charles without paying inheritance tax. For some reason the late Queen Mother was able to do this when leaving her private wealth to Queen Elizabeth.

Each generation is able to increase wealth accordingly. The late Queen was keen that secrecy should be maintained which ensured the content of Royal wills should never be seen by the serfs 😮

Maybe someone else who runs a business …as the royals are doing…could tell me if they receive huge sums of money from the taxpayer every year ..oh and massive rises in the benefits.?
No? Not just me then ,almost 50 years in business and HRH hasn’t once handed over cash to me so why the hell are the taxpayers funding him when he,s scamming the NHS ,the fire service and several charities and much much more!!

I wonder how many people realise that King Charles is nowhere near the richest person in the UK. He’s not even in the top 200, who are mostly people you’ve never heard of. Just saying……

Pretty sure I've heard of most of them, and not sure what relevance that has to this thread anyway.
