How an employee looks - is it the same as how well does he/she perform in his/her job?

So many closed minded and judgement people

If the only doctor that could save your live is covered in tattoos and piercings - would you even give him/her a chance?

My husband went to hospital for an MRI scan last week and was quite disgusted that the young woman on the reception desk there had tattoos all up her arms and neck, various rings through her nose and things like wooden sticks through her ear lobes. I don’t think HR departments dare say anything now but She looked grubby and unprofessional.

Although some did have an anchor, swallow or other seafaring symbol - but none were allowed to be visible when in uniform.

My sister when young had a yellow rose tattooed on her bottom , very pretty . She's now 70 and very heavy in weight , staying with her recently she came out the bathroom with a towel covering her front but her bum showing as she walked into her bedroom , I saw the yellow rose had become a sunflower !

When I was a child only sailors and navies had tattoos. I think the first time I heard of a woman having one was Paula Yates, who had a rose or dove or something like that. That was back in the 80's and I didn't know a single woman who followed suit. I still haven't got any friends with tattoos and I can't say I like them to be honest. I don't think they enhance the natural beauty of skin. I suppose you could say the same about makeup or jewellery but at least those are temporary. I do think people with tattoos all over their bodies, including their faces, are addicted to the buzz (pardon the pun).

I don’t like them at all nothing against a small one especially if it’s covered but the awful all over stuff looks horrible and dirty and looks worse on women my young pretty manager had them arms legs neck looked awful but she loved them

Allsorts just saying you do not like them is fine, but you said the assistant turned your stomuch and you would not shop in the retail outlet again, I find that very nasty, my tattoo is covered, except when on the beach or by the pool and I love it.
My partner does not like tattoo's but he does not make comments about people who have them, it's personel choice.

Should say a employer cannot discriminate if the tattoo is a protective characteristic. I know the Police, military, and other security services do not allow visible tattoo's.

I've seen someone who was tattooed in every visible part, including skull and face.
One tiny tattoo? Fine. But all over is not pleasant to look.

That being said, I had a lovely hug from a heavily tattooed biker the other day!

So you discriminate then Alsorts Glad it's illegal in most proffesions.
Would you discriminate with someone with a facial disfigurement? Just because you don't like tattoo's does not mean you shouldn't employ someone. My friend works as a assistant manager in retail,and is much loved by her customers.
This prejudice needs to stop.

Yes, I cannot rid myself of that connotation with tattoos.

I think it’s quite sad to see beautiful young women with lovely skin all covered in wonky tattoos. I recall walking behind one who had identical tattoos that resembled totem poles running up the backs of her calves. Unfortunately, they hadn’t been sited correctly and were at two different levels, which just looked weird! Though I guess she didn’t often see the backs of her legs, and so she’s never know. 🤔

Rafichagran, if you think it’s small minded to think a spiders web over someone’s face is unsightly so be it. It takes allsorts. I would not employ anyone in the public eye with them. Ones that are covered by clothing are fine, especially if they have your name on it. I too can’t bear passing the tattoo studios. Same with those earrings that out a huge hole in the ear lobe, ugh.

Everyone has the right to an opinion but they don't bother me.
People who like tattoos have the right to have as many as they like.

I have a tattoo, I am not grubby, and pride myself on high standards of hygiene.
I have a friend who has facial tatoos, and she is very attractive. Some people love them and some people do not, let people who have them live without being judged.
The OP stops going to a store because the woman has tattoo's, well I am glad the employer is more broad minded. Honestly I think it is the OP attitude that is small minded.

As TerriBull says, it's a divisive subject and I knew it would come up again (3rd/4th time for me) but this time there are far more antis than before.

Previously I've been called a slut on GN for saying I have four fairly small self designed tattoos that each mean a lot to me. You won't have to pearl clutch as they're all hidden by clothes. I'm in my 70's and none of them are wrinkly (which is a 'hate tattoos' favourite jab) and no, I don't regret having them done.

I just wonder if some people become fixated with tattoes, like having an addiction, a few seem to want every bit of skin tattoed.

At least when they’re all oldies they can laugh together at their saggy baggy art forms amongst the wrinkles.

Tats on faces shout ‘issues’ to me I’m afraid. Just why??

My main concern with tattoos is how can Drs determine if you have skin cancer or something similar ? some tattoos are very intensive

Although there is an advert I saw recently for a woman that survived breast cancer and had a flower tattooed where her breast was removed. I did get that!

Totally. Have seen the ad.
Equally my friend when she hit 70 had her first tattoo ever on her shoulder, a swift taking flight, is only small but she wanted to do something naughty and rebellious before - in her words - she became too gaga to do much of anything anymore.
I get that too.
And she certainly isn't getting anymore and most of the time has her shoulder covered anyway.

Yes that tattoo was rather beautiful, not on show though and very personal, but of great significance in dealing with one of life's difficult milestones, as I said that I can understand.

Having said that, don't get me started on Beckham and his mini mes.

I dislike tattoos and would never get one , but I have friends with them and some are stunning .
One thing about tattoos is that they go grey as you age . What msy be vibrant and artistic when you’re young , doesn’t look the same as you age .
