Making up their own words now.
My fingers blush

I imagine Beau kidy meant wouldn't it be a "turn up for the books".

Jackiest Mon 04-Nov-24 18:00:44

I would support a person if I they are kind, thoughtful or have some other nice characteristic but I would never support a person just because they happen to be the same gender as me.

MissAdventure Mon 04-Nov-24 17:53:38

Blimey, that's a bit of a jump!

Whethertomorrow Mon 04-Nov-24 17:46:43

Bea65 Are you suggesting that we support women just because they are women?

I don’t support all women because of their gender. There have been some very nasty women around in politics as well as every day life. Would you truly support a woman that was a murderer or guilty of child neglect/abuse. I would not.

MissAdventure

Which is why people won't bother to start threads at all, soon.

Agreed… from some comments I feel I’ve slipped into PEDANTS CORNER..
Why do some GNs not want to support other women and think this is a bit outdated⚠️

This was meant as a light hearted thread … SERIOUSLY some people have not a FUNNY bone in their body😁

There was nothing in your OP to suggest that it was a lighthearted thread.

It just read as female triumphalism, which nowadays sounds a bit dated.

Quite...

Sorry but apart from the last sentence the humour escaped me 😕

It's 2024 - we've had female prime minister's, doctors, bank managers, professors, engineers, even an astronaut, for the last 40 years or more. Some were good, some were bad, but not because of their gender.

Like others I'm not at all interested in someone's gender when they're in any position - only how they do their job.

Jackiest Mon 04-Nov-24 14:46:09

Kemi may well knock the spots off Keir but politics should not be a competition it is about getting the right answers and making this world a safer, kinder place to live.

mabon1 Mon 04-Nov-24 13:44:47

Who worries whether they are black or white, female or male, it's how they do the job that matters.Kemi won by a very narrow margin and always shoots from the hip, she will need to stop that.

mae13 Sun 03-Nov-24 12:20:22

Kemi has a proven reputation for being blunt - just what's needed. Sir K is a wet lettuce, hypnotized by party donor's freebies, who always looks utterly startled and bewildered.

Kemi will knock spots off him!

I don't know the premise of unequivocally supporting a woman, without expecting anyone to substantiate why, is maybe where the humour gets lost.

Well you can never tell how a thread is going to go. You may start it but you dont own it.

Yes definitely more interested in policies than gender.

Kamala Harris is the lesser of two evils, hopefully she will win, but more by default I imagine the alternative is so unpalatable. As for having masses of confidence in her abilities, well that remains to be seen as to how her presidency will pan out, some of her previous speeches have been beyond bizarre imo. Biden's certainly been a liability given of late he's been calling Trump supporters garbage, his latest gaffe, he really needs to shut his mouth, comments like that are a positive incendiary imo, Still given he's got the onset of dementia which has been patently obvious for a while I suppose that was his final nail in the coffin. What was Hillary's excuse for "basket of deplorables" no foresight in making such a stupid comment glad she lost! woman or not this woman would have chosen Obama over her any day if I'd been eligible to vote. I don't trust the Clintons,, too much power behind the throne.

I'm not sure about Kemi, I'll reserve judgement, possibly she lacks experience.

As for Rachel, the markets haven't really endorsed her budget. Again it remains to be seen if the hike in NI will prove to be counter productive. Rising unemployment could mean a massive thumbs down as the ramifications of that pan out.

keepingquiet Sun 03-Nov-24 09:33:36

Yes, to Harris winning although Trump and his mob are already preparing for the push back unless it's an absolute landslide.

Badenoch's rise to being leader of the opposition I am only glad for as it will be disastrous for her party. She lacks experience, common sense and has no self-control when challenged. I get the impression she thinks she can bully her way through.

Reeves is someone I am trying to have confidence in, though I felt the budget was a bit of an anti-climax in the end.

You may also see I don't like using first names for politicians.

They are not my mates. Gender doesn't matter.

MissInterpreted Sun 03-Nov-24 09:32:57

Well said, M0nica - I too believe that it should always be a question of the right person for the job, regardless of anything else. Yes, it is always good to see women succeeding in major roles - but they should be there because they are the best person for that role and nothing else.

M0nica Sun 03-Nov-24 09:27:55

Like Jackiest I am more intersted in their policies than their gender I am even more intersted in their competence.

The time has gone when every time a woman gets a specific job for the first time we think it is wonderful. That time ended when female incompetents started getting into top jobs, like Liz Truss - and others.

In any post I want o know the person holding it is the most competent and suitable, regardless of age, sex, gender, racial origins, and all the other wonderful variables in human kind.

Jackiest Sun 03-Nov-24 09:13:32

I am more interested in their policies than their gender and not sure I want Kemi to sort things out. She has claimed maternity pay had “gone too far” and said minimum wage hampered businesses.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 03-Nov-24 09:10:40

🤣🤣🤣

Bea65 Sun 03-Nov-24 09:04:01

Kamala won the US Election, we have KEMI as new leader of the Conservatives and we have Rachel as our Chancellor…whatever your politics- these women have to sort out the chaos that has gone on and IMO , we should feel 😊
P.S. am not a man hater but they should know their place😂
