Miss Adventure and Dottydots, I feel so bad that you regret your property purchases; is there nothing you can do to get out and into somewhere better?

I have a few small regrets, but nothing so serious.
One washing machine I bought wasn't the greatest; I was rather happy when it finally quit and I could get another one. I did a bit more research on the next one and am much happier. I put up with the front-loader for about 8 years; now I am back to a top-load and much happier.

I could possibly do a sort of sideways move into another home that needs modernising, but where I am now is near to a shop, the bus route, and a doctor's surgery, with biggest plus being that the neighbours are not troublesome.

Almost every little block of flats here has drink/drug users housed in at least one of the flats.

Boots I bought recently, found a much more comfortable/suitable pair a few weeks later. First pair will be going to the charity shop.

I love making beaded jewellery, nothing professional or anything, just beads with elastic or cord.

I bought a box for £10.00 so I knew it wasn't going to be anything really special but while the image on the box showed the beads to be quite a reasonable size, in reality they're so tiny I can hardly hold them! Very pretty they are but I'd need fingers the size of a 1 year old to hold them!

So I used the elastic/cord for other projects and glued the beads to other stuff I was doing like needle felting!

I had some very tiny beads .
I glued them to some rather tired Christmas baubles.
They looked very good and one friend had some as an early Xmas present to put on her tree.

They're um... to use a well worn, and unimaginative word, they're lovely.

Best way to sleep comfortably with a duvet, is each person has their own. Some lighter, some warmer, some down, some man made fibres. You'll sleep better and deeper. Get your own duvet. If you're a big fella and think the single is too small for you, then use a 3/4 size duvet, it's wider and longer.

Sorry Calendargirl why wouldn’t you give it away if it’s not being used? It’s just taking up space and could be useful to someone who would use it or needs it.I,ve never sold anything from my house I always pass it on…including full kitchens ,sofas bedding and new curtains I,d rather do that than keep things I don’t want or need

One of my daughter’s friends gave her a bit of advice ‘but clothes for the life you have, not the life you think you want’! The same goes for anything in the house 😂 It’s made us both stop & think…. I have bought less, ming you I have some very weird stuff I bought in the past! I am the proud owner of a cast iron pan with semi circular hollows for making round batter things filled with apple 🤷🏻‍♀️, some really expensive ribbon shoelaces, unused, a set of suction cups to remove cellulite 😂😂

An air fryer. I bought it because DH likes to fry noxious smelling meals for himself, often including reduced price fish. The smell lingers for ever and is enough to give me a migraine. I hoped that an air fryer would help take care of that, but, alas, he often forgets it is there. On the other hand, the electric diffuser is one of my best ever buys.

I'm getting to the stage of why keep stuff I don't use or wear . It takes up a place physically and sometimes in our mind . Pass onto charity or someone you know will appreciate it .

They sound fabulous! Do you follow awomancalledgeorge on insta? She started ‘sparkle Friday’ where you wear something glittery and glam every week. Why not try it? Puts a smile on my face each time I join in.

Sounds like you are describing a Scandinavian pancake pan. you can use ordinary pancake batter and a knitting needle to turn the batter balls, you can dust them with icing sugar and have any jam on the side, no need to fill with apple, we mostly do not do that any more. Enjoy, they are one of my favourite treats and of course I have a pan too.

I’ve only recently realised that I’m an impulse buyer, and internet shopping makes it even worse. And I’m always buying things that will make my life better and more organised only to find that nothing is ever going to make me organised. Also I’m surrounded by things I’ve bought at car boot sales and charity shops, especially furniture from when I was obsessed with Annie Sloane paint. But my biggest mistake was buying a two seater sofa with a footstool instead of the three seater which I actually needed. It’s Parker Knowle leather, incredibly well made and very good value as it was ex display. But it isn’t long enough to stretch out on and the foot stool is too big for my small living room. It’s too good to give away and no one seems to want sofas these days anyway. If I have. TKR I’ll need a comfortable sofa. I just don’t know what to do.

I've had 2 TKR. I'd have loved a 2 seater. Perfect for a back against a cushion at one end, feet propped up over the other end. I typically only sit in chairs, but needs must - propped feet after TKR.

My DH is the one for regretted purchase. He started reading a John Grisham novel and now we have a bookcase with two shelves full of every one he wrote. I don't think he has read any of them. Also got 2 shelves of cd's that we can no longer play as we haven't got a cd player and the car uses a pen drive. My daughter and I are going to do a car boot so I have much to sell.

Witzend Probably different in your area but I know animal rescue centres in my county stopped taking duvets a few years ago. Blankets, towels, yes, but no duvets. Think tgey were regarded as too difficult and expensive to wash/dry.

I am sorting through things that are not really anything that I regret that we bought, because they gave us pleasure or were useful for a while.

However, they are now surplus to requirement, and as I am re-decorating the kitchen this seems the right time to get rid of jugs, vases, dinner plates etc. etc. etc. that are never used any longer.

Where to start? Looking back at photos, I see clothes, furniture, curtains thatI wish I had never bought, and eventualy gave away or took to a charity shop. The worst disaster was a Parker Knoll suite which, when it arrived, was completely the wrong colour for the room, and as hard as a brick to sit on. That lasted two years - we could stand it no longer and wrote it off as a bad job.

Too many clothes to mention, but the rice cooker annoys me the most. It goes in the microwave and is no quicker than cooking it on the hob. Keep forgetting to biff it but I’m working my way around the kitchen cupboards so I’ll get to it.

I keep hanging on to it because if we get a really cold winter, I shall probably use it again.

But the last few winters have been fairly mild, on the whole.

I know you are in Scotland, so probably colder there.

And MissA, I would feel obliged to have it laundered and dried before passing it on, don’t know if it would fit in a commercial washer even, and to have it professionally cleaned….no wonder people just buy a new duvet when one is grubby, there must be hundreds going to landfill.

I have a feeling I'm going to regret last Thursdays purchase. For some reason unknown to man I decided I had to have a pair of pink sparkly boots from M and S that were in the children's department but went up to size 6. The size 5 fitted me perfectly...I am going to be 70 in December 😂😂😂..they are still lurking in a bag on the back seat of the car. I haven't plucked up the courage to show DH yet...he already thinks I'm completely ditsy. ( I think he might be right)

Does your dh not hog the duvet calendar girl? We have a kingsize bed with ks duvet & my dh has perfected the tuck & roll. I'm often having to get out of bed & yank the duvet back especially the bottom end. I bought a super king duvet & cover but it was way to big, I kept tripping over it.

Middlemarch by George Eliot, was a book I never read but was on a list of books in the Guardian as 'must reads' several years ago.
Is still on the shelf mocking me, along with War and Peace.
They would probs make good door stops though.

Babs03 middlemarch is in my top three favourite novels, do give it a try!
