Regretted Purchases.

Just been having a bit of a sort out of airing cupboard and blanket box.

A nearly new 13.5 tog king size duvet which is just too hot.

Even though we have a king size bed, we find a double duvet is big enough somehow- this one overlaps the sides and top and DH is sweltered, even I find it too much.

Keep hanging on to it in case we get a really cold snap, but it is so bulky and takes up a lot of space.

Regretful buy.

I regret buying my flat.
I'm stuck with it, falling down around my ears.

I can't honestly think of anything though I do have a big tin of paint under the stairs given to me free by my local paint shop for our spare room as i was looking for a pinky mushroom colour (they had mixed it for someone but the shade was slightly "off"). It's a lovely pinky mushroom colour but just not quite right.
🙄

My daughter thought she might use it but obviously it can't be replicated so what I have is all there is!

I love my ricer!
Always regret not using it if I am in a hurry for mash.

I have had one, because I was thinking of making a thread about it.

Obviously I didn't regret it enough because I've forgotten what it was. blush

Potato ricer, omelette maker, a very expensive leather jacket which was lovely in the shop but proved too heavy to wear for longer than an hour.
So many other things, have I learned my lesson?
No, I still buy on impulse.

I am afraid I have bought into the hype of lots of kitchen appliances and gadgets, which I buy and ultimately give away.

Clothing, especially for special occasions and have cost a lot of money, worn once then mostly stuck in back of wardrobe as I think too expensive to give away.

Super expensive Tempur mattress. Seemed comfortable in shop but hot and uncomfortable at home (in the winter). Lasted a few weeks now in spare room.

Otherwise clothing bought in haste for “formal do’s,” (like you GrannyGravy). Usually hated and never worn again.

A soup maker.

I don’t know what possessed me to buy it as I love making soup in a pan with a stick blender 🤦‍♀️

My regretted purchase is hanging at the back of a wardrobe, worn once, I absolutely detest it! No idea what I was thinking when I chose it, not the sort of style I have ever worn, definitely never wear again.

I bought the dress and jacket for a posh (bloody snobby) wedding, cost far too much, have already given the expensive matching hat away…

Potato ricer. Huge thing which sits in a draw.

Mine went to the charity shop. Just took far too long to make anything like enough.

I would be lost without my potato ricer, use it whenever we have mash.

A spiraliser.

Mine is one of those foot spa things. I think it's been used twice as it is so heavy with the water in.

Goes cold quickly and far too noisy to be relaxing.

An eye wateringly expensive Dunlopillo mattress. After three consecutive nights of being “cooked”, I moved into the spare room! It didn’t affect DH at all but after a while, he got fed up of sleeping on his own, so we both abandoned it.

One of those weighted blankets - supposed to help with insomnia. It hasn't helped mine - I felt too squashed to sleep!

I came across a beautiful shawl/poncho I’d bought in Ireland at the back of my wardrobe last year. I got it some 15 years ago. Hardly worn.

I think I also bought it for the expensive looking tag on it telling me the colour was ‘parsnip’. Yes I’m that shallow. ….
🤣

We have a king sized bed and a super king duvet!
We need a lot "spare" grin

Same here, or similar, anyway. Our bed is between king and super-king sizes - a Vi-Spring sale bargain - so the duvet has to be super king. It’s a bit of a PITA with fitted sheets and the mattress cover though, I have to order them specially.

I bought an expensive leather rucksack mostly to use for travelling but it was a total pain as the straps just slipped off my shoulders all the time I tried wearing it on one shoulder but it was just so annoying. It sat in the cupboard for 2 yrs but I eventually gave it to my daughter.

very regretful purchase

You could sleep on it,, under a sheet. Then have a light duvet on top.. I find I keep really warm in an unheated bedroom in the winter by doing this..

I'm sure that a decent duvet would be snapped up via a Freecycle type of website, if there's no other way/place to pass it on to be used. I always seek to find a way for anythings we can't use, to be passed on to someone who wants them.

Georgesgran Sun 03-Nov-24 10:28:30

Our local cat and dog shelter doesn’t accept duvets at all - difficult to launder, but other bedding and towels are welcome.

My regretted purchase was a sofa - it looked (mainly) pink in the shop, it said it was pink, but when it arrived it was a godawful peach. As it was for a little used room, we put up with it for a few years, then as we were about to redecorate, DH said to just get rid. It still had the fire safety label attached, but we struggled to find any charity to take it - apparently customers preferred leather!! I think the PDSA took it, eventually.

Kate1949 Sun 03-Nov-24 10:23:26

We gave unwanted, decent bedding to The Salvation Army.

I am sorting through a number of 'regretful buys' at the moment so I sympathise. I have two sackfuls of stuff waiting to be taken to a charity shop.

rosie1959 Sun 03-Nov-24 10:22:16

Vacuum bags are ideal for storing bulky items reducing the amount of storage space needed

Calendargirl Sun 03-Nov-24 10:18:59

At the risk of sounding miserly Witzend, it is just too good to give to a rescue centre.

If it were old and worn out, but it’s not.
