The most stupid thing I’ve done recently 😩

Last Wednesday morning I went to the nearest DIY store, fortunately.

I found the cable clips, jig-saw blades and chain-saw oil I needed, and bought 3 3 metre long skirting boards in the wood-yard. Went in to pay and realised that my purse, and visa card were at home!

Did I feel a fool?

Nothing for it but to go home, fetch purse, return to DIY store and pay.

Fortunately, as I was on my bike, the distance was nothing like OP's, but I did feel stupid.

My most stupid thing ever was on Saturday evening.
Filled up my aluminium bucket with coal and dumped it in the kitchen rather than taking it to the sitting room. Stirred my chutney on the stove and turned round straight into said bucket and of course hit the end of the handle bit which took a neat right angled chunk out of my leg.
Stopped it bleeding but was very swollen by then so thought it needed looking at.
Half hour drive to A&E and then was out 60 mins later having been cleaned up and patched together.
Felt such a twit, but could not fault my hospital one bit!
(Although as my daughter pointed out “you were too early for the drunks” 🙄)

I left my phone charging in my DS's house while I walked their dog as I wanted it charged for my journey home. I'd had an achy leg so thought walking the dog might loosen it up. Sadly my leg gave way under me preventing me from putting any weight on it so I struggled to walk the 1/4 mile back and practically had to hop hanging on to parked cars or garden walls. No phone to call for help and of course when a kind passerby offered his phone I didn't know their number as it's saved in my phone! After 3 extra days staying with them and 2 visits to A&E I was finally able to travel the 200 miles home. Once there I remembered DiL's phone number is on the dog's collar! I rarely go anywhere without it now!

Halfway to Heathrow for DD to catch a flight and she said she'd left her phone at our house. It was too late to go back for it.
It cost me nearly £40 to post it Airmail tracked because of the battery!

Another time DH left his phone in the seat pocket on a plane, never did get it back. It was before Smart phones.

My nephew left his phone here one evening and I didnt notice until after he had gone. He came all the way back (40 minute walk) next day to retrieve it as he uses it for shopping and messaging his mates.

Ive got an old dumb phone in PAYG and would have used that for a few days while I had the smartphone sent special delivery. Royal Mail will now pick up from any house - you dont have to be a business - or take it to the post office. Printing labels online is easy peasy so long as you have access to a printer. Or you can make your own and email them to the sender.

Royal Mail will bring a label if you request it.

I plug my phone into the car for even the shortest journey, but I have forgotten to remove it and left it in the car whilst I shopped/whatever.
DD1 left her phone on the plane at JFK - she was extremely pleased to find it in safe hands prior to her departure a week later.

Recently my hub did the same thing. We were staying in a hotel in Dublin and had to drive back to Belfast. We were nearly home when he remembered he'd left his phone in the hotel bathroom. Nothing else for it but to drive all the way back.

Thanks everybody, but it was a few days ago, and a safe enough double journey!
But no, I didn’t want to put anyone to the bother of sending it via a courier.

If you could manage without your phone you could ask for it to be sent, recorded delivery?

Oh b****r Witzend

Can’t do without my phone. When I go anywhere, the first thing I check - is my phone in my handbag?
It’s Sunday morning so the roads will be quiet. And you could stay for a nice lunch with your family

I am sure most of us have done something like that.

I hope you have a good journey there and back with not too much traffic.

Shelflife Sun 10-Nov-24 11:09:01

Oh dear !! Do drive with care - safe journey.

Dd1 was away for work, so I went for a few days to help son in law, who works full time, with 3 young children.

They live 60 miles away. I left for home reasonably early on the last morning, just after the worst of the rush hour, esp. since the journey includes the M25.

Got home after a very easy journey - to realise that I’d left my phone behind! Heaven knows how or why - I usually have it tight there beside my seat, in case of emergencies.

Nothing for it but to have a wee and a quick half cup of coffee, and go straight back. So an extra 120 miles, all down to my own stupidity. 🙁
