The most stupid thing I’ve done recently 😩

Dd1 was away for work, so I went for a few days to help son in law, who works full time, with 3 young children.

They live 60 miles away. I left for home reasonably early on the last morning, just after the worst of the rush hour, esp. since the journey includes the M25.

Got home after a very easy journey - to realise that I’d left my phone behind! Heaven knows how or why - I usually have it tight there beside my seat, in case of emergencies.

Nothing for it but to have a wee and a quick half cup of coffee, and go straight back. So an extra 120 miles, all down to my own stupidity. 🙁

Oh thanks for your concern theworriedwell (intriguing name by the way) Yes, I was luckily fine but I still blame my stupid hairy dog! 😄

Glad to hear you were OK, our dogs do get us into some interesting situations don't they. I can't remember where I got the name from, I think it might have been something someone said on a thread I was reading when I joined. I actually don't really worry about my health although if this chest infection doesn't clear up soon I might become a bit of a worrier.

I tried to use my Iceland bonus card when buying a meal at a Brewers Fayre pub, thought it was the Brewers Fayre bonus card. Both red, both have Bonus Card prominent. Felt a fool and next day went to Iceland and did the same. I felt an even bigger fool.

Years ago I tried to charge my work laptop with my phone charger and called IT support at work as the socket wouldn’t work.

Last week I tried to pay for some cakes and bread with my Woodland Trust membership card. In my defence, it is the same colour.

I once visited someone's house, and said I thought the living room would look lovely when it was "done", only to be met with stoney silence.
It was the only room they had done. blush

I was having a coffee at a friends house while she was cooking her MIL's favourite chicken soup, it was a real labour of love , it smells horrible and takes ages, a few hours of simmering, the time came to sieve it to make sure there were no chicken bones , I watched in horror as my friend poured the liquid into the sieve and watched it go down the drain! I tried to stop her but was I laughing so much it was too late all she had left was a chicken carcass. That was the last time she ever made Chicken soup and we still can't talk about it without having a giggle.

I can understand the method in your madness, your obviously not called MissAdventure for nothing lady !!!!
I can't quite get the image out of my head. Maybe I'm just a tad jealous as I wear prudy, big cotton knickers.

Ooooh MissA the mind boggles.
grin
You have reminded me of the time when, in the small local branch of Lloyd's Bank, my three years old daughter lifted up my circular skirt when I was standing with my back to the male cashiers. They must have had an 'eyefull'. I was very embarrassed. grin

MissAdventure Thu 21-Nov-24 12:11:14

I did a lengthy induction for an agency worker once, with my skirt tucked into my "hot pink" lacy knickers.
Went in front, up the stairs, bent down to show him where the safe was... blush

She sounds about as sane as my daft mother who went out shopping with her skirt tucked into her knickers at the back!!!!
No wonder the fruity grocer was very pleased to see her.
Luckily a passer-by had a little word with my barmy mother and the family's good name was upheld. Fruity grocer seemed to be most encouraged by mum's flashing!

My mum once left all of her skirts on the roof of my dad's car as we set off. (She only ever wore skirts)

She had ironed them all nicely, and didnt notice until they blew away in a gust of wind a good few miles from home.

We left our passports (and all our documents) except " boarding cards" at check-in desk in Los Angeles airport and got to the other side of security before we realised.

Security wouldn't let us go back.
It was a scary half hour but they found them and returned the folder to us (after scanning it)!

Not phone related, but one of my exes' mum had died, and her ashes were put with some other family members'.

The headstone was taken to add her name, so the ex decided to go and spruce up the grave.

He bought some paint and stones to put around
the edge, and spent most of the day there, tending to the grave cutting back grass, and planting bulbs and flowers.

Just before he went home, he phoned his nephew to point out how long the headstone was taking to be returned.

As he chatted to his nephew on a video call, and showed him his handiwork, the nephew said "Hang on a min. Pan out the phone and show me where you are... now walk 2 rows down, and 3 graves in".

He did as instructed, and found he'd been at the wrong grave all day. smile

Witzend - it’s so easy to do and so difficult to survive even overnight withiut the mobile
I ‘think’ my phone is backed up in the cloud so if I lost it I could somehow magic its secrets.
But I’m not sure and where is The Cloud.
I’m feeling increasingly like my grannie who announced she wanted nothing to do with that there new money and would stick with pounds and half crowns thank you

Ohhh I couldn't find my stupid dog, I looked everywhere in the house for him it was midnight & I was getting ready for bed.
Thinking he must still be having a late night wee. I ran out to see what the nit was doing but the back door was still locked, I knocked myself out & woke up in a pool of blood.
Stumbling about I eventually found drippy dog on my bed, oblivious to my near -death experience. 🙃

Our doorbell has a little ceramic button saying "Press".
Last week I found it on the front drive, so brought it indoors and during our shopping trip, I bought some Super Glue!
On Saturday I 'fixed it'. Holding it in place for the required time and checked that it worked. Success.... until Sunday when our daughter called in. She asked if we really didn't want any visitors, as the button was very firmly stuck in and immovable.
Slightly red faced, I have had to asked the electrician who installed it, if he can source another, then come to replace it.

grandtanteJE65, how did you carry 3 metre long skirting boards on your bike?

TheWeirdo Tue 12-Nov-24 11:53:23

Stupid thing I've done recently was last night when I put in the toaster these little muffin type of things.

While I was stood there waiting for it I was guzzling a bottle of Robinsons Orange and Pineapple.

I was totally in my own little world when the muffins popped up, scaring me to death, the drink went all over me and the bottle and drink all over the floor! HA HA HA!

Even after I came out of the shower and a change of clothes I still smelt quite fruity!

Could you not have done without your phone for a few days!

I could, but it would only have meant the same journey sooner or later - they don’t come to us very often - so I thought I might as well get it over and done with.

Kamj Mon 11-Nov-24 18:36:04

People that say they couldn't do without their phone.. What did you do before mobiles?

BlueBelle Mon 11-Nov-24 16:44:11

I couldn’t be without my phone for an hour Yellowfox
My order before I leave the house is purse, keys, phone, glasses and I wouldn’t leave without them all and if I had made the same mistake as witzend I would have turned round and gone back too
