Unusual, domestic animals' names

I once met a beautiful black cat - an absolutely gorgeous mini-panther if ever there was one. You would tend to think he would be named Blackie, or Coal, or Bagheera or something.

Nope. He was called Jason

Was he an explorer?

Fishpaste.

I adopted a kitten and tried to introduce her to the house cats by spreading a little bit of food on the back of her head to encourage the others to lick it off. It was not helpful and she ended up being called Fishpaste because she was a bit smelly. She later gave birth to four kittens in my home office. They were named Dingbat, Helvetica (Semi-bold), Bodoni and Frutiger (Light Condensed). Several of the adult kittens emigrated to New Zealand with me.

Another friend's DD was a vet nurse and often brought home "unwanted" animals. My friend's' DH called the 3-legged cat "Tripod".

One cat we had was called Tenzing by the Cats Protection Rescue Centre that my DD worked at during her Duke of Edinburgh Award word. She fell in love with him so he came to live with us. On his first journey outside he shot up the first tree he encountered - and had no problem getting down again!

A friend of mine had two cat brothers whom she named Reggie and Ronnie.

Our lovely, much lamented cat was called Crinkle, she had a curled-over ear.

In the vet's waiting room once, room full of various kinds of pets, "Goliath" was called - he was a budgie ..

My son's had goldfish called eggs,bacon, sausage,beans, tomatoes and toast lol ..not sure which was which though 😅

I had two cats called Pepsi and Max

Our handsome black cat was called Nimrod; it seemed so appropriate as the meaning is 'Stealthy Hunter'. Nimrod was also a Mesopotamian King, also fitting as Nim thought he was royalty.

Last cat was called Harley Catfish, neighbor dogs called Mopey and Wimpey!

I had a Guinea pig called Bumble.

My daughter had two black hamsters, one was bumble and the other bogey

Growing up our family had the most unimaginative names for pets...Puppy, Puss, Bubby (for bunny). I think our parents didn't name them at all, and their names evolved from us being toddlers.

Mentioning names being called out, at work (longshore industry), everyone has nicknames. One day one of the men heard me phoning to make an appointment for Friskie Jones, and had a good laugh. I had to threaten to call HR if he tried to pin it on me! Last name changed to protect the innocent.

As a child I used to find Gerry’s dogs in ‘My Family and Other Animals ‘ hilarious, they were called widdle and puke.

My son had goldfish called Lenin and Trot(sky). They lived to a ripe old age in a small bowl until I took pity on them and released them into our pond and they promptly died.

I had a cat called Stan as well!

A friend of mine had a cat she called Mrs Taylor.
I have grand kitties named Selainie, Nux and Ra.
We had a black toy poodle called Coco and a cockatiel called Magic.

Our neighbourhood hosts many cats including Tera (as in terabytes ) Pawlean, and Mr Thomas.
