The Queen and domestic violence
(125 Posts)Tonight on ITV1
Didn't quite know where to put this but very impressed, not to say moved by Camilla's dedication to this cause and her empathy and kindness talking to workers and victims. She shows a humane and mature understanding of the problem and a realistic and down to earth ability to relate to the women in this position. Well done Camilla!
Although I never took to Camilla after the Diana problem, she does seem a loving wife to Charles and I admire her work with abused women. It was a hard programme to watch, these women suffering at the hands of inadequate, violent partners, i would castrate the lot, however that is not permissible so this campaign is desperately important. We need more safe houses and a better system to prevent the battering and murder of these women, the men should get the harshest sentence they can have and be named and shamed,
Its only taken 50+ years to bring this to the fore,,, back in the day you could not get help at all,,,,Erin Pizzy comes to mind she was a champion of domestic violence.
Good on the Queen for this
Queen Camilla appears to be a strong and kind woman who I, for one am grateful to while the king has been ill.
How dignified she has been while those who wish to berate her have continued with unkind and sometimes cruel remarks. The Royal family is fortunate to have her.

The Queen is dead. No amount of pretending will change that.
Camilla married Prince Charles but she will never be a queen in the eyes of the British public no matter how much her PR team push it
Oh for goodness sake!
HM QEII is dead, yes
King Charles is our monarch and his wife is QUEEN - get used to it.
Whatever makes you (think you are) spokesperson for the entire British public?

I think you're a bit out of step here. Mostly people are admitting she's doing a good job and are accepting her. The only reservation is it's a pity they didn't or couldn't marry in the first place so that others didn't get hurt. But you know I think they function well as King and Queen.

Gosh. I’m part of the British public and I see her as Queen.
Nobody has to accept her as Queen, but I’m not sure why you feel you can speak for the whole GBP.
You remind me of my paternal grandmother, Mrs Xxx who refused to acknowledge my mother as Mrs Xxx, because in her opinion that title belonged to her alone.

Really why keep on about Diana she only did what gave her the most publicity queen camilla is a very warm humane person so credit where credit is due
Regardless of what Diana did or didn’t do, and I wasn’t a fan, or what Camilla did or didn’t do, this thread is about what the Queen is doing about domestic violence now, and I’m pleased that she is doing so.

I like her and I’m happy to refer to her as Queen. She is doing a good job supporting the king and addressing the issue of women and domestic violence.
I hadn't thought of that, but Diana was disrespected by her husband. The situation wasn't like most marriages, but Diana was owed a duty of care by the whole family & they let her down. For me it's not the infidelity so much as the victim blaming when Diana was really struggling to cope due to emotional neglect, that was abusive.
Anyway, I like Charles & Camilla's style of monarchy & think she's brilliant for devoting herself to this campaign.
Camilla is doing a fantastic job supporting this cause. Much credit to her. She came across as caring and empathetic. Agree, will never see the title as queen suiting her. There was only one in our lifetime. But she is rather wonderful in her own special way. I like her!

I thought Camilla is doing a very good job highlighting the problems women have. It was an excellent program showing how both mental and physical abuse is in all walks of life.
I also thought of how the young Diana was disrespected by her husband.
and disregarded by her husband, as though her feelings, thoughts, values were of no consequence - which of course
is silent abuse.
Camilla is more of a match, really showing her mettle here
and as someone pointed out ^ at 77 ! I admire her stamina
Behind the throne is a strong woman.
Camilla is shining a light in the dark corners hiding domestic violence, dragging it out, showing it up for the pernicious, insidious horror it really is.
what about emotional heartache to a younger woman by sleeping with her husband?
come on Annie, ha ha ha
On a personal note, I once had a brief conversation with someone who knows Queen Camilla. It was lovely to hear that on a private level, she is much loved by friends, staff and family for her kindness and compassion. She is also hugely supportive to the King and they put his good progress with his illness down to her tender loving care. So it's nice to know it isn't "just for the cameras". She is clearly very caring.

Very brave but could get very political, can you imagine Queen Elizabeth spearheading a campaign like this?.
The late queen never gave me the impression she was particularly interested in much other than horse racing and pampering her dogs. I mean I know they're meant to be politically neutral but even then you can do more than just say "oh how nice" about everything. There are lots of important causes to champion, like for example the King and ecology and farming. There's not really anything politically controversial about domestic abuse - I mean which parliamentary party thinks people should be allowed to abuse their partners? No it's not political.
Camilla has lived a normal life pre marriage to HMK.
Violence against women is endemic and it’s not just political David49, women and children are dying.
Sorry when I saw the headline I thought you meant THE late Queen. I still can't accept Camilla as "Queen" and probably never will!
I think it’s great that we managed to get through to page 3 before . . .
Poor Mrs Manakee, Mrs, Hoare, Mrs. Carling,

May I suggest a thread all about Diana,
This thread is of domestic violence
We shouldn't bring Diana into it for sure. But Camilla would find it hard to talk about the abuse that can come from infidelity, I know women who have contracted STIs from their cheating husband, and many others who suffer from the effects of infidelity. At least one woman I know was accused by her husband of infidelity herself despite the fact that she caught it off him. Not being able to give informed consent to sex is abuse, and if one doesn't know that their husband has been with someone else she cannot give informed consent

it's not political to want to stop women being maimed, driven to suicide or killed is it surely? [or men obviously]
No more political than wanting children not to be maimed , driven to suicide or killed
Is there a party here in the UK that campaigns for people to be maimed, driven to suicide or killed? I'd have thought most right minded people were against it, thou shalt not kill and all that
Domestic abuse still ignored 2024
No it's about how wonderful Cammy is. She's not imo
